The Gibson Custom Shop relives past glories.
In 1959, the Les Paul Standard made a change to wider, fatter jumbo frets which made it a more facile guitar. The significance of this change wouldn't be felt until the late '60s when Clapton, Bloomfield, Peter Green, and other emerging guitarists discovered its warm, thick BurstBucker voice and fast, smooth and easy-playing neck. Then the Les Paul began its ascent toward ultimate icon status.
Like all VOS (Vintage Original Spec) Series instruments, the 1959 Les Paul Standard VOS is handcrafted for comfort and playability in the Gibson Custom Shop. The construction, neck profile, hardware, and electronics are period accurate, and a special nitrocellulose finish treatment gives it the patina of a gently aged vintage guitar. Includes Gibson Custom Shop case and a certificate of authenticity.

I've owned two vintage Gibson Les Pauls and know what they are suppose to play like, I've owned 5 other later Les Pauls 3 Customs, a Standard and a Deluxe all good guitars just not the vints but good guitars none the less. I started looking at these a few years ago and started getting the familiar itch and finally bought one of the R9 VOS Les Pauls, I must admit I was a little skeptical of all the claims many have made regarding these being all that and a bag of chips having heard all that before. I have been very pleased all in all with the overall fit and finish, quality workmanship, playability and especially the sound from the Burstbuckers. It's not an original let's just get that out and understood but unless you have the six figures to lay out for one and you want one that you don't have to insure on a huge insurance rider premium or worry and babysit while playing jobs this one fits that bill very well and then some. It's also a prefect guitar to mod if you chose to go that route there is no end of optional things to add to these guitars to make them that much closer to the real thing. I'm very happy with the way it came from Gibson myself and am not afraid at all to give this guitar a total thumbs up. I can't imagine how they could have improved the guitar and still made it affordable.

Bought it about a year ago and it is outstanding. Fit and finish are top of the line with no issues. This guitar tunes better than any I have had over the years (7). Can blast through any amp set up and can be as mellow as you like. Really sweet.

All I can say is wow. I bought this guitar about six months ago. Before this I had used an epiphone les paul jr with a seymour duncan pickup in it. It sounded great but I needed a guitar with a warm kind of tone. I tried out a strat but it wasnt getting the sound that I had stuck in my head. So, I bought this one. It is amazing. The only problem was I didnt really like the pickups so I put some duncans in it. Overall great guitar

if you were ever looking for in your face sound and consistantsy in playing and clerity this is it!!! the feel of this guitar is like no other. i personly have a hard time finding a guitar that help keep my f chords in tune , my fingers just seem to move some strings in my F chord but not with this guitar,, im still getting used to the neck, i usually play an ibanez presteg, so the neck is much more slim. but i have found myself playing my gibson on heavy metal and blues the sound is so thick and so much fun to play the wider jumbo fretts are perfect for me i will never get rid of this guitar . i advise u to try it out, i was fighting over fender or gibson i am truly happy i went with the gibson it is my #1 guitar!!! no wonder the great guitar player recommend this guitar its just AWSOME!!!

I have owned and played many guitars over the years. This one is simply the BEST new one available today, hands down. The original 59 Les Paul bursts are the all time icon of electric guitars. With their prices in the stratosphere, this VOS is the closest most people will ever get to an original one.Gibson really tightened up their quality control on these. My only complaint is that the nut slots are tight on the first 3 strings, an easy fix. Beyond that, the look, feel, sound and playability are superb. Is it expensive? Yes. Is it worth it? Yes! This is probably not the guitar for the grungemeisters or uber-hyper shredders. The neck profile is big (but comfortable). It took me about 2 days to get used to it, but the advantages of sustain and note bending ability are outrageous! I have small hands and I love the neck size and shape. One last thing, these VOS guitars are all fret plecked at the Custom Shop. That's a special computerized process that perfectly levels all of the frets beyond what is capable by the human eye alone. Their are no dead spots on the entire neck, every note rings loud and clear with no buzz, etc.Again, simply the BEST! Hope this helps you.
