From country to blues to rock, its thick-yet-biting tone and easy playability has ruled them all.

The two-pickup Les Paul Special was introduced in 1955 as an intermediate model, positioned between the low-cost Les Paul Junior and the Les Paul. Originally available only in a single-cutaway, TV-style limed mahogany finish, a double-cutaway Special and cherry red finish option were introduced in 1959. The 1960 Les Paul Special Double Cutaway is now part of Gibson's Vintage Original Spec series.

Like all VOS (Vintage Original Spec) Series instruments, the 1960 Les Paul Special Double Cutaway VOS is handcrafted for comfort and playability in the Gibson Custom Shop. The construction, neck profile, hardware, and electronics are period accurate, and a special nitrocellulose finish treatment gives it the patina of a gently aged vintage guitar. Includes Gibson Custom Shop case and a certificate of authenticity.

    Soul Mate

Comments about Gibson 1960 Les Paul Special Double Cutaway VOS Electric Guitar:

I have been jonesing for this guitar since high school, back when they still taught the Pledge of Allegiance instead of tree hugging. The look, feel and sound of a cherry red slab body Special has always done it for me, and this specimen with a one piece mahogany body is hard to take your eyes off of. The p90's have all the grind you need for blues, alt country and rock and roll, and they clean up nicely with a pure, rich single coil voicing. The neck is broad and beefy but not uncomfortably fat, and the bound fretboard plays as smooth as butter. Best of all, this guitar weighs in at just over 6 pounds, as comfortable to play as anything else I've tried over the years. The only downside is the price. $2.5k is a lot for a slab body guitar, and if I hadn't found one at a substantial discount on Ebay I'd still be wishing for one. But the feel and action of that neck, the looks, balance and voice of that guitar are unique. Need one? Buy one.

    Dream Guitar.

Comments about Gibson 1960 Les Paul Special Double Cutaway VOS Electric Guitar:

I played this guitar yesterday and the first thing that struck me about it is its weight. It's light! I own an Epiphone Les Paul and it's just too heavy. Luckily I don't play that as I play my Fender Mustang Primarily. But I wanted to check out some Gibsons. I wanted a double cut guitar that's not an SG and I didn't want humbuckers but something that is a bit hotter than my single coils on my Mustang. So I was looking at this and went to my local music store to see what they had- and there it was. I played this through the amp I own (a Fender hot Rod deluxe) and it played like a dream. Soaring high notes and crunchy low notes. Love the smaller scale. There are many specific things I want in a guitar for being a Thirteen year old gigging musician and this has everything. The only thing they could've added was a vibrato but that would be inaccurate to the original so it's fine. I will be buying the custom shop version soon. Good job Gibson!By the way the TV Yellow looks AMAZING.

    don't get it.

Comments about Gibson 1960 Les Paul Special Double Cutaway VOS Electric Guitar:

I've played this guitar on numerous occasions and i've really troed to like it, but this guitar just doesn't cut it. This guitar looks ok, but it doesn't have a look that satisfies my eyes. The P90 picks uually sound good, but with this particular guitar they sound super thin and weak. It sound's like a strat with an active humbucker in the bridge with no bass and no treble with a dead battery. Overall I don't reccommend this guitar. If you're looking for something to just have or collect then buy it, but if you're looking for a guitar to seriously play then I don't recommend it.
