I was given this gem 10 years ago. There is nothing on earth that sounds like it when plugged into my Boogie or just about anything else. The push/pull puts open up a wonderful variety of tones. If you ever get the chance to pick one up, you will enjoy it. I still own 8 top-end guitars, and this is the pride of the fleet. The raw sound of pickups with the all the nobs up and the pots pushed in is incredible.
I know Jimmy Page is very proud of Gibson's fullfillment of this tall order to re-create such a magical instrument! But they did it perfect the neck is the best I've ever played on and I have 10 guitars Fenders,Gibson Customs and Jacksons among others and this is by far the best. The pickups sound just like Jimmy on clean through my Plexi you get stairway to heaven perfect! With some nice overdrive you can Rock and Roll easily and Communication Breakdown just breaks out of the amp! If you can get it and love Led Zeppelin then GET IT ALREADY!
This is my 4th custom shop lp. In my opinion, the JPP delivers everything I wanted in the "ultimate" Les Paul. None of the others had the playability(low action, no buzz), sound (acoustic & electric) like my recent JPP. It is expensive, but in my opinion, worth it. I am done buying les pauls because I have what I have been looking for (since 1989). I gave quality a 9 because the case had a problem that wasn't properly fixed after a 7 week wait from Gibson. If you can afford 1, try it and buy it before they are gone. Last being made will be JPP860.
This guitar rocks right out of it's hardshell case. The page burstbuckers are awesome!! The neck feels as if it were greased!! The neck is easy to handle. The aged detail is just beautiful. It sounds exactly like the lead guitar in the Led Zeppelin recordings. I keep trying to find a Les Paul that has a "Black Dog" or "Rock And Roll" tone and this is it! If you are thinking of buying this Les Paul, consider it seriously!
I am a huge fan of Led Zeppelin and especially Jimmy Page. So when I went to the Gibson Showcase in Nashville, I just had to try out this guitar. I plugged it in to one of the amps there and I automatically fell in love with this guitar. The neck has a nice feel plus it is easier to play because it is shaved. The parrallel switching is cool. You can change the humbucker into a single coil pickup. The humbuckers sounded great, and when I switched to single coil, I got the signiture crunch that comes with them. If I had the money, I'd get this guitar in a heartbeat.
Ok, this is my first time ever reviewing equipment (or anything for that matter). I don't know what perfection is so I didn't give a "10". I have a bunch of Les Paul guitars and happen to be a huge fan of Page but would never pay that kind of money for a name. I tried one of the JP guitars from the mid 90's a few years ago just to see what it was like, and was totally unimpressed with it. I was in the market for a new guitar recently and stopped by my local music store where they happened to have the new reworked JP model guitars. I tried it and was blown away. The guitar almost played itself! It was like butter. It was light, easy to play and had great tone. I found the older model JP to be too confusing with all the push pull pots not to mention feeling that it didn't sound or play that well. This one has only 1 push pull pot. It's easy to use and understand. There was NO WAY I was leaving the store without it. The guitar is expensive but it had everything I could want in a guitar so to me it was well worth it. Everything is really high quality as you'd expect from Gibson. I'm not crazy about Gibson pickups. I always change them for Lindy Fralin PAF's. I didn't change them on the JP though. I love the pickups that came with the guitar. If you're thinking about this guitar, go check it out. It's absolutely worth trying.
I was only gonna buy this because I am a fan of Jimmy Page's work and I wannted play like him. I was pretty excited when I bought it.(Now that I think of it thats kind of sad) I probably got a good copy, but anyway mine works great the strings shine and they never break for some reason. It has this smooth noise to it, but at the same time can be rough. It works great with my amp too. I hope you guys get atleast a similar model like mine.
If you long for that true Zeppelin tone, this is the guitar for you. And me!
Just purchased a JPP and as I replaced the original strings with Bright Wires (.010 to .046) I noticed the action had changed. After a bit of research I found out that the original strings on the JPP are the Les Paul Signature strings with a gauge of .009 to .046 and the LPS also have the typical red silk wrappings at the ball end. 9 stars for quality as I may have to exchange the one I got due to a slight problem with the bridge.
I recently tried this guitar at the local guitar store and it was the greatest thing ever. The neck was thin and you could do effortless slides. It is like no other and the pickups are awesome. The look of the guitar is phenomenal how they put the ware from Zeppelin tours in the finish. There's no question that I wouldn't buy it if I had the money. If you have the money and are interested don't waste a minute, BUY this axe right away. Greatest Guitar EVER!!!
