OVERVIEW

All the incredible tone and playability with some extra eye candy.

This figured top beauty brings you all the incredible qualities you expect in a genuine Les Paul guitar from the Gibson Custom Shop. You get the one piece mahogany neck, warm-toned mahogany body, and an ebony fingerboard for bright attack. This electric guitar's carved top is breathtaking figured maple. This Les Paul Custom guitar's inlays are a tribute to the classic Gibson Super 400--a much loved archtop electric that sported eye-catching split block fingerboard inlays. 496R and 498T Gibson humbucker pickups deliver warm rhythm and hot, solid lead sounds. Gibson includes a Tune-O-Matic bridge, stopbar tailpiece, and bound body, neck, and head with gold hardware on this Les Paul custom.

A magnificent guitar

By CaptainNemo

This review is on the 2007 Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul Custom with super 400 inlays and butterscotch finish. The guitar is lightweight, a dream to play, and a sight to behold! The ebony fretboard is a bit smoother to play than a rosewood fretboard. The 496R/498T pickup configuration on this guitar is a rare combination and playing through a Mesa amp setup provides a dirtier sound than the 492R/'57T pickups found on my LP Standard Lite. With the toggle switch in bridge position it has a throaty, biting sound. The middle toggle position provides a different phased sound and could be used for jazz. With the toggle in neck position you get a crisp, warm sound. I'd say the pickups would be comparable to the 490R/498T pickups, except the 496 neck pickup is slightly hotter. One thing I do wished the guitar had is pickup coil tapping. The guitar does not come with the pick guard installed, so you have the option of leaving it off and showing off the awesome finish (which I prefer). The all gold hardware combined with the figured maple top really makes the guitar stand out visually. Unfortunately the strap holders are standard ones and need to be upgraded to strap locks. The volume/tone controls are black speed knobs. The fretboard inlays are the super 400's instead of the usual Les Paul custom block inlays. One of my favorite features of this guitar is...it only weighs 9 pounds! I was extremely happy with this as the guitar is not cumbersome and is easy on the back and shoulders. The guitar comes with a kit that includes a polish cloth, guitar cable, and guitar picks. It also comes with a certificate of authenticity along with documentation for the tune-o-matic bridge and truss rod. The guitar case is black with a dark purple interior and comes with a key lock. The guitar is pricey, but if you have the money I'd say it is a sound and worthy investment.
