I once owned one of these gems. I got it in 1967 at the age of 12. It was a gift from my mother who paid a whopping amount for it a local music store. In 1993 my wife sold it! Needless to say my heart has ached for the last 14 years. I will be replacing it very soon. I've already replaced the wife!

The "Historic" SG Standard is yet another "reissue" touted for its historical accuracy, yet it still falls short. First, WHY do I have to CUSTOM ORDER a guitar to get it in the proper color of deeper "cherry" it came in back in the 60's? A REISSUE would come out in the proper color (the "wine red" some SG's come in is closer the the mark, or the Epiphone Elitist SG's shade), & not this cheapo thin nitro finish that sinks into the pores & looks horrid after a year. Secondly, FIX the cutaways!!! The "Historics" are too asymmetrical from the front-view; look at a real '61 to '65 model...most were more symmetrical in appearance than these. AND taper the horn tips like on the '61 Reissue USA model. Keep the Historic beveling, just TAPER the tips like the originals. Those are the main things that keep this guitar from being really worth what they charge. Fix those things (& maybe offer all-chrome hardware as an option for us late-'64/'65 SG fans), & then count me in as a customer again!

Comments about Gibson Custom SG Standard Historic Reissue Electric Guitar with Maestro:
It's solid, beautifully assembles, and painstakingly finished(I dont know how but the one i got was an '07, black, #0, i think a '61 reissue) and this guitar can easily have any tone you could imagine from a hendrix strat with the rhythm pickup to a roaring beast with the treble, perfect for any style, very solid, just don't abuse the tremolo and it will work finesummary: the most beautiful looking and sounding instrument I could ever imagine with an unsurpassed level of class and playability and gibson custom shop means its assembled by hand. played just about every guitar in every store i could find and this is the one i ended up with. this is not the kind of guitar one would buy and end up returning...11/10 stars

Comments about Gibson Custom SG Standard Historic Reissue Electric Guitar with Maestro:
This guitar is AWSOME! its just like the sg that Angus Young used at the 1996 concert in Madrid. Although it costs more than the Angus Young SG, this one is more for its beauty, age, and its killer sound. A MUST have/buy.

As a Lynyrd Skynyrd fan, this guitar is nearly identical to the one Gary Rossington uses to play the legendary song "Freebird". this is an awesome guitar with simply the BEST sound availible. i love this guitar
Comments about Gibson Custom SG Standard Historic Reissue Electric Guitar with Maestro:
I played it at a guitar center in Atlanta and it was awsome, it is great for playing cassic rock 70's-early 90's. The tremelo really lets you twist and bend at its max! it is worth every penny I am still saving up for it. Also AC/DC is sounds great as does Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath.
Comments about Gibson Custom SG Standard Historic Reissue Electric Guitar with Maestro:
I am a SG man and all my guitars are SG's and this is my favorite mostly because of the twang bar but i have expierence a lot with Gibson and this guitar rocks.

If you can afford this axe buy it. No guitar i have ever played comes close. The neck is amzing for fast action and the tone can cover every single style of music
Comments about Gibson Custom SG Standard Historic Reissue Electric Guitar with Maestro:
This guitar is simply amazing, theres no other like it. it has all of the great sg components, and them some but the price knocks it down so far. It really sad actually its such a great guitar, but no one would want to buy it because of the price. A angus young SG costs less!!!
Comments about Gibson Custom SG Standard Historic Reissue Electric Guitar with Maestro:
This is by far the best guitar I've played however there are some draw backs. On both sg's I've bought one of the 57'classic pick-ups has crapped out and the toggle switch needed to be replaced. Other than that the most diverse electric guitar Gibson makes!
