OVERVIEW

A beautiful recreation of one of the most popular and best-selling of all Gibson guitars.

The introduction of the remodeled Les Paul models of the early 1960s sought to bolster Gibson' reputation as a quality builder of electric solid body guitars, something the Les Pauls of the late 1950s had failed to do. And although those Les Paul models of the late 1950s would eventually become the world' most iconic six-stringed instruments, the introduction of the redesigned models in 1961 would also signal an important new era in electric solid body design.

Characterized by a much thinner body with two cutaways, pointed horns, beveled edges and no body binding, the new Les Paul failed to achieve the full approval of Les Paul himself, which lead to the removal of Les Paul' name in 1963 in favor of its new name, the SG. A painstaking recreation of the original, the SG Standard Reissue takes you 50 years back in time to a rare and powerful slice of rock history.

The SG Standard Reissue stays true to the specs of this iconic instrument. Its distinct features and legendary tone are meticulously remade with all the precision and accuracy expected from Gibson Custom, including its solid mahogany body with twin cutaways, pointed horns, beveled edges, nickel-plated hardware and lightweight aluminum stopbar tailpiece.

Other standard appointments include its cellulose trapezoid fingerboard inlays, single-ply binding along the fingerboard and a slim- neck profile. In addition to these details, the SG Standard Reissue also benefits from elements of the Gibson Custom 20th Anniversary Specifications being introduced for 2013”one-piece rosewood fingerboard, Kluson„¢ Deluxe machine heads, hot-hide glue neck fit, a Historic Truss Rod assembly with no tubing, accurate fingerboard binding color, new Custom Buckers created in the image of the original PAFs, and period-correct Aniline dye for guitars finished in Faded Cherry. Includes case.

Every guitar includes a Certificate of Authenticity, an owner' manual and adjustment literature.

Comments about Gibson Custom SG Standard Historic Reissue VOS:

Guitar needed a set up some buzzing issues out of the box.
I love this SG it plays like a dream and sounds great through my Fender '57 12 watt amp, amazing tone to say the least. I like the build of the guitar the neck and body come together perfectly and it's super light when I compare it to my '61 SG reissue. I don't think you can compare a custom shop Gibson to any other guitar in the world I'm very very happy, I had to move a guitar or two but this ones a keeper for sure. Musicians Friend is great.

Comments about Gibson Custom SG Standard Historic Reissue VOS:

This is a very good guitar as far as tone and feel goes. Selection of woods etc. are very good as well. I really believe that the hot hyde glue neck makes it resonate much better. Along with no cover on the truss rod.

My biggest and only complaint is the crumby build quality on this expensive of a guitar. On this Historic and any historic I have ever handled, you can feel the seam between the binding and the wood on the neck. It should be seamless. They need to do a better job of sanding, period.

The inlays are sub par as well. With wood filler used because they inlets were over sized for the inlays.

The last thin is where my guitar meets the body, there is like a quarter inch of wood that steps up on the neck, from the body, to the fret board. A piece of wood that is supposed to be seen. Well instead of a nice saw cut here, it looks like it was just snapped off the board. A ragged, rough, edge.

That is why I didn't give it a full star rating. I have a Collings I35 that has not one of these issues and is so perfect in build quality that they don't even compare. But given this is a buzz free Gibson, with awesome tone, I will keep it.
