This Gibson Custom Shop SG Standard Reissue VOS was a futuristic design when it was introduced in 1960, and it still has a modern look. Featuring an ultra-thin, two-horned body, the SG series addressed 2 of what Ted McCarty saw as the major issues of the now-retired Les Paul body style: weight and limited access to the upper treble register. The new body shape of the SG Standard was dramatically lighter than the old Les Paul and offered access to the entire fretboard. This amazing re-creation includes pickups and long neck tenon modeled precisely on the original. The VOS aging treatment makes it look exactly like a vintage original instrument that's been treated with loving care for its whole life.

This is a great instrument. It came to me set up very well. The tv yellow color is stunning. The wood grain is visible and the body is one piece solid mahogany which I feel adds to the tone of the instrument. The pickups are very well balanced and have the ability to be bright and snappy or dark and thick. The volume and tone controls are very usable and have an excellent taper. The neck is not as thin as one might expect on an sg and is very comfortable. The guitar is well balanced (not as neck heavy as other sg guitars I have played). The guitar is light and a pleasure to play for long periods of time. I have always had a love affair with les paul guitars but, since I purchased this guitar, it is quickly becoming my favorite. Lastly, the detail and craftsmanship that the Gibson custom shop puts into these guitars is exceptional. It feels so comfortable to play and has the appearance of an older instrument that has been well cared for over the past 40 years. I have purchased several vos gibson guitars and all have been top notch. Thus one is no exception. One other thing, I have played this with a multitude of amps including fender, swart, dr. Z and it sounds great with every amp I have experienced it with.

Okay, so the price may be a little out of reach, but Gibson has the worn in look down to a science. When I opened the case I saw what appeared to be a true early 60's SG, gently aged, and well cared for. This thing is phenomenal weight wise, and the feel and setup is perfect. Action is fast and low, and it makes me want to play it all day, without worrying about a scratch. My Les Paul Supreme had me worried in the beginning, because I didn't want to scratch it, but I bought the damn thing to play. This one feels right at home. The sound is true Gibson vintage, and I'm thinking I'll be needing another in the near future. I ended up with the exact serial number as the guitar featured on the Private Reserve website, so, that was a nice little bonus. Super Job Gibson!
