This is an amazing guitar from gibson. The quality is amazing and the finish is stunning. Fast neck, crunchy pickups, and the right hardware. Perfect for rock, but is surprisingly versatile, too. Do yourself a favor and buy one before its gone!
I just received this guitar a couple of days ago. I currently play a gibson lp voodoo and it is extremely heavy. I am a huge gibson fan and love limited edition guitars. Overall this guitar is awesome. A little smaller profile and very light which makes this guitar very comfortable. Action on it is very fast and the case is very nice with all white plush like material on the inside. This may become my number one. Only 400 made and around 1200 bucks you cant beat it. The 500T screams and the neck pickup is very creamy. A must own for this price.
I once owned a Les Paul Studio, which was about the same price as the Explorer Pro. I think the Explorer is a better guitar. It has hotter pickups, and sounds so ferocious. I like this guitar better than guitars twice the price. I will be keeping this one forever.
As soon as I heard that Gibson released a smaller profile explorer I ran out to find one. I have always liked the Explorer profile, but being that I am 5'7" and 150lbs I look kind of strange with the regular one, so I was happy that this one came out. As soon as I picked it up I could tell Gibson took some extra care making these. The little details like the antique binding that actually covers the frets and the pearl Gibson inlay in the headstock added a real nice touch. It didn't come set up really well, but that is the first thing to do to all my new guits. After a setup I was off to rehearsal. I plugged into my 6505+ and was blown away! The 500T in the bridge is SMOKIN' hot. I had to turn the gain on my amp down from 7 to 6 just to keep everything in control. The crunch was unreal. My drummer asked me what I had changed other than my guitar. He couldn't believe the difference in sound from my Les Paul to this guitar. The neck pickup is high output and bubbly sounding. Overall, this is now my favorite guitar and will be my main stage axe. If you are considering this guitar and play hard rock/metal, then you are going to be really pleased. Worth every penny!
I special ordered one of these flame top Explorer Pro's after seeing the pics. I was very pleasantly surprised when it arrived early from Gibson, and by the great quality and setup which is striking. This version has a smaller body than the 'classic' Explorer which gives it a sleek/modern/more balanced look than the big body regular Explorer. It also has a Korina back which looks great and is much lighter than mahogany. Everything about the guitar says quality, from the flame top to the antique'd binding, and the Explorer Pro even includes a case at this price. The neck is more like the 60's style neck with the flatter back profile, but I prefer the 50's neck profile. Other than that I will rate this Explorer Pro nearly a 10. Of course no guitar is perfect, but this is a really beautiful instrument and comes close. Well done Gibson!
