Customer service was excellent and the guitar was shipped and arrived as promised. There was no damage from shipping however there was a couple small nicks in the lead pick up coil wrapping tape that looked like it was installed that way. Not enough to make me want to return it. Biggest problem was when I dropped the low E string to D the string would fall out of the nut. I like the guitar so it is going to my local shop where we will adjust the set up and replace the nut so I can go to drop D running without the string falling out of the nut. I also received a couple Seymour Duncan humbuckers for Christmas so I will replace the V's stock pickups with the Duncan's and have chrome covers installed. So after two to three hundred of alterations I will have the V the works for me. The guitar was fairly priced and was great out of the box for standard tuning. I don't mind spending a little to make it the way I want it.

This Gibson Flying V is excellent. I purchased the Ebony version used for a great price... Need to have it setup just right and fix a few minor electronic issues, but it's a great ax. Perfect look and tone for thrash metal/hard rock. Only negatives are some fret buzz (hopefully fixed when I set it up) and the bridge pickup is borderline unusable for clean sounds. It's just very, very hot. Perfect for distortion, however, and the neck pickup sounds great clean anyway!

The fret board sits slightly lower on the body on this one than on my others & it could use a good lin seed oiling, Its pretty dry. The fretts seem like they might be slightly thinner than some of the Les Pauls & Explorers I currently own, but I could be wrong. The date on this guitar says its a year old, but there were only a couple of super fine scratches around the back strap button and down by the tail piece, everything else looks, feels, smells brand spanking new. The tuners are the same that I have on several LP's. Nice & tight. Seems to hold tune well.

The Case that is included with this guitar is a generic no frill black hard shell case with Gibson logo on the side but no locks or plush guitar cover.
So What? Not needed for me.

I have not checked the pick-ups out yet ( with a meter) but at first listen I seriously doubt that I will ever change them out or need to. I probably will add a vibrato but, maybe not.

Is Gibson's quality & finish slipping downward? Not on this one. I really expected to pick this guitar apart but its as good as any that has ever followed me home..... this one was even delivered to my doorstep free of charge!

If you have ever considered a Gibson Flying V you might want to give the deal that MF has going on at the moment at shot. Level 1 used mint condition Flying V. This might be one of the last GREAT AMERICAN guitar deals that you will come across. ITS A NO BRAINER!
Super lightweight. Great straight forward design on volume controls. Nice wide neck without being super thick. This model has no volute on neck. No chrome pick up covers or tremelo bar. It does have a beautiful nitro cellulose finish with chrome hardware & what looks like to me a one piece neck & 3 piece body.
I have owned in the neighborhood of maybe 40 guitars through the years & lately I've been hearing that Gibsons "fit & finish" have gone down on their guitars. The only thing I can see on this guitar is that If you hold it in the light just right you can see the seem creases on the body but not feel or detect them in any other way. The grain of the wood is matched really well so its hard to tell it is a 3 piece body looking at it straight on. My only concern with this is will the body come "unglued" in years to come? Really doubt that it will but only time will tell.

Everything else on this guitar is as good as any other Gibson I have ever owned including two previous flying Vs.
Musician's Friend had this baby listed as a used/mint condition guitar at a very special price. My main guitar for years back in the seventies was a 75' Flying V that I sold and regretted doing so imediately after I did it. I had another later model I bought for a great price just to sell while I owned the other V, so for years I was "V less".

I have seen and played the faded cherry V's but I really love the gloss nitro finish on a guitar.

I had been spying the Heritage V that MF had listed for the last several months and when I saw the "used mint" option, I jumped at the chance to have another one. Right out of the box I could tell ths guitar was a "keeper".

I have had the good fortune to play on several original 67 V's as well as a band mate's Dad having one that I got to play. This guitar ranks right up there, right out of the box. No Adjustments were made or needed, I did a slight tune up and walked over to the Marshall & BAM! Love at first power chord!

I been in the Performing Arts since I left Vietnam, That's 43 years ago. The V is Excellent!
I have a Les Paul, the V is lighter and very flexible. I played heavy Metal, Hard Rock. Played from
Madison Square Garden to Filmore. Canada and just about everywhere in between. To me this Flying V is the ultimate. It will stay in my family, and go to my kids. I have a 1958 V, and this one is more user friendly, doesn't weigh as much. It rocks! The only things I can say is I Love it and it's a keeper. Playing the best, beat's the rest!
No One can beat a Gibson. It fits my hands perfectly.

Fantastic, I really can't say anything bad about my flying V. It may have a few minor annoyances, but it's an amazing guitar
Features? Well it has a tone knob, and a volume knob for each pick up, nothing fancy, but they are great tools to shape your tone. Ceramic magnet pickups, which I love, they have a very powerfull signal, distort very early, and have a great depth. The neck on this guitar is the best part, slim, fast, and built for shredding. I really cannot say enough about the neck, you won't understand unless you play one.
Mine is great, it has a little fretbuzz, but my action is super low, and I can't hear it through my amp. everything feels solid, and looks great.
Very pricey, but anyone willing to spendthis much on a guitar knows what they are looking for. I am going to own this guitar for the rest of my life, if I have kids it will be passed down. My guitar really is a mastercrafted instrument, I would recomend this to any metalhead, who wants a wacky shaped guitar, that still has the class of a lady.

I had to give this guitar a one because I had the love and the money for a Quality Gibson but couldnt make the purchase due to customer confidence. The '05 Explorer I currently own just "had it" from the first day I picked it up. To be honest it's the only one I played before I purchased it, sure I realized there could be a better one out there but I new that I was satisfied and ready rock! All your really paying for is the awsome tonewoods that gibson uses! After that go ahead and roll the dice on good assembled guitar!! I only have one rock life to live and dont wont to have to play 5 V's guitars just to find good quality???? What the heck gibson, I have played and owned faded models that played better!!!!
A few months back I decided to make my second "real" guitar a Ebony Gibby V. I went to a local shop where they threw a strap on it and let me crank it through a 100watt high gain Blackstar. As an active member of bands for 20 years and already a huge Explorer fan I new exactly what feel and features I was looking for and the Flying V was delivering that day! As soon as I saved the money I planned on picking up a new one asap.
So that special day came when I drove myself down to a reputable shop that only deals high end guitars. I picked up the ebony V they had hanging on the wall and asked them to plug me in and watch the magic of rock!
And so that special day finally came!
When I would read bad reviews on Gibson quality control issues I always came to the companies defense thinking that the only people really complaining were art collecting old farts, burnt out rockers and epiphone owners haha!!! no offense!
So as the shop owner was plugging me in I noticed that the bridge was as high as it could go and the strings were still pretty low for a gibson. It got worse when I played it with a crappy fret setup that just screwed everything up! The pickups were raised so High that i thought they mite just plop rite out onto the floor! just really crappy and totally disappointing! Nobody at gibson inspected this guitar Period! I checked the vin on back it was a recently made 2011.

I bought a used one.

I still can't believe someone has ever put their hands on it.

It is brand new, not even one scracht and the original factory plastic was still on it.

It is a very light and comfortable guitar. Very lightweight. The only heavyness is how it sounds: it sounds like a loaded truck downhill, with no brakes. It sounds heavyer than my Gibson SG Standard (another pearl).

I've been playing my own Thrash/Death songs, and just fitted perfectly.

I don't use the clean sound, so I can't talk about it.

Anyway, I would give it an 11 if I could.

OVERALL: Fastest neck I've played. Sounds perfect, and the instrument keeps up with you. I love this guitar, and so should you! And I don't agree with the complaints that you can't play sitting down. All you need to do is saddle the apex of the V on your thigh. It sets nicely and the neck is stretched out and up for easy speed. Not to mention... it just looks awesome. Classic and modern at the same time, as well as iconic and awe-inspiring. People in the audience just notice it better. I've gotten more compliments for this axe than any other, both from people who play and people who don't play.
FEATURES: The axe is simple, but exactly what I need. Classic Gibson scale neck, pair of hot humbuckers, lightweight mahogany body. There's not much else to it, but nothing else is needed. Everything else often just gets in the way!

Rated down one notch though, because I DO prefer my Gibson 3-Pickup Flying V, so the 2-Pickup version is a teeny downgrade. This is acting as my down-tuned V for shows, the 3-Pickup version being the main axe.
QUALITY: American made, and it shows. Right out of the box this beauty was ready to play, and the white finish just makes it oh-so-pretty. Good solid piece of wood, tight and tuned setup, electronics soldered in nicely and mounted properly. No complaints here.

Playability is the reason I choose V's. The neck is fast and that's what a metal player needs. The body is lightweight, can be around my shoulders all night and I'd barely feel a strain. Most importantly, though, it's balanced perfectly. It sits even on your body, even when your hands aren't on it, and it doesn't move. Speedy and stable, can't be beat.
VALUE: Worth every penny, and then some. Personally bought mine used, but even at full price I'd still be happy. Most American made guitars these days are rediculously priced, even some other Gibsons, but this one's not too bank-breaking, and you really get bang for your buck. V's last forever (well, most Gibsons do) and this one seems no exception. I expect I'll be playing mine into my twilight years!

I just got a 2005 Heritage Cherry "Flying V" and must say it's as good as my 1990 V and looks very nice with its see~thru Cherry finish. Haven't had time to install a TP-6 Finetuning tailpiece yet but at least it's on order. Cannot say enough about the "Flying V" line and have owned a few of these over the last 30 years. Bottom line, just GET ONE ! Stick the lower bout between your legs and the upper bout on top of your right leg and JAM ! So sick of hearing guys crying that they can't hold them, SHUT UP ! I've had NO problems with them and just told you how if you can't do it. Along with the 498R & smokin' HOT 500T pickup set, you just can't go wrong with this guitar for ANY style from country twangin' on the rythum pickup to the heaviest metal. And these seem to hold their value OK also and don't drop 50% soon as you walk out of the store like some brands do. So do yourself a HUGE favor and don't buy junky guitars, save up to own the BEST ! GIBSON'S RULE and so does Musicians Friend !

a truely amazing guitar.i started out with a Epiphone SG and when i moved to this i was impressed.although the frets are JUMBO it was a little uncomforabtle. but as i get older (im still young)i have a feeling i will grow into iti recommend to more expiereienced players
