I got mine in Nashville a few years ago. It's standard fare when I gig out which is several times a month. Plays awesome, stays in tune well once it warms up. Lightweight, strap locks a must, looks crunchy. Some kid knocked it on it's 6 channel selector knob and I'll be damned if it's a hard find. Got a lame replacement on now but the diameter of the pot seems too wide for full knobbage. Even went to the Gibson factory in Nashville to ask.. no tours, no parts for sale. Still love Gibsons though.
I was looking for a guitar specifically for drop tunings, and I saw one of these babys slightly used for sale and snatched it up. If you are looking for a great guitar that really shines in lower tunings as well as in regular tuning this is the guitar, great value the look is totally vintage and the playablity is like nothing else. I also own an SG Menace and the V is causing it to collect dust in the corner BUY THIS GUITAR...Twice!
After 30 years of guitar playing, I finally bought my first Gibson. I always wanted this guitar after seeing it on a Judas Priest album cover in 79. In a nutshell, the tuners are the best, and adjusting the intonation was a breeze. Everything else..... I have several guitars in my collection that out perform this guitar as far as playability (action) and tonal characteristics. And they all cost less than this guitar. If you're confident in your playing, you'll worry less about what name is on the headstock.
I have always wanted a Flying V. I finally got one. I Love it! I absolutely love the way the neck feels and plays. The only complaint I have with this deal is the gig bag as opposed to the hard case. The pickups should have been the 500T in the bridge, but I can live with the 490's.Overall--well worth the $. The biggest plus is it is an AMERICAN made Gibson. Can't go wrong with that..
This guitar's bad. Good bad. Just got the Worn Ebony V via UPS today and it played sweet straight outta the box. Sounds awesome, and looks like total street trash dressed in a tuxedo.
This guitar overall is pretty sweet. The three pickups are my favorite feature on this guitar. Very lightweight. This guitar will not let you down.
I just received the black on white version of this guitar about three hours ago from the musicians friends website. It only toke about 4 days to arrive in which I ripped open the box to try it out. The first thing that I notice is how light it is. I also own a Ltd Black Diamond plated explorer that weighs a ton and this is so light. The worn spots kinda look ridiculous because its just a spot sanded out of the guitar but when playing your righ forearm hides it. Not that it really bothers me though. This guitar is very easy to play sitting down (putting the v between your leg) and standing up. The sound is amazing and the pickup switch seems to be put on good. The tuners are nice. I have this plugged into my Marshall Avt 150 head and a Marshall 1960 Cabinet and it shines. The distortion is awsome with a deep sound and the clean sound is also amazing. The way the guitar is shaped makes it really accessible for the higher frets. Overall when I saw a gibson v for this amount of money I couldn't pass this up. Don't hesitate on getting it, it's well worth the money!
This guitar is very good for the money. It has great tone and it stays in tune. But every once in a while i sit down and play. Its impossible with this! But thats my only complaint.
Good guitar out of the box, thinner finish definitely adds more resonance. Good pickups, 6-way switch is a great addition. Finish is good-looking overall but the "worn" spots look like somebody just spot sanded a few places, rather obviously. But the finish will wear away on its own pretty quick and it won't matter. Good deal, good guitar. Solid pickups.
I love this V the neck was great right out of the case - the finish was killer-way better then high gloss-the pick-ups are very hot and it sounds incredible with a crybaby my only complaint is the pick-up selector switch-I may have to switch it to a les paul type toggle-the middle pickup does give you a few extra tones but more in the bluesy hollow range-I use it alot.with an axe like this I payed extra for a real case and it was worth it too
