"The Bird" is Worth Every Buck

Features:

Love the shorter scale length (24 3/4) and the slightly wider spacing at the nut.

The L.R. Baggs under-saddle pickup is also a helpful addition--I love the discreetly placed volume control in the sound hole. The nitro-cellulose finish has both backers and bashers; time will tell how it holds up.

Quality:

The fit and finish of my Hummingbird is flawless.  I've looked and looked and can't find one blemish. This Gibby has the look and feel of the hand made treasure it is.

Value:

Yes, this guitar is expensive.  But, as my father used to say, "Son, it only cost a little more to go first class."  I've owned many low to intermediate priced Martins, but never bit on a Gibson due to the price.  Finally, I saved enough money and bit the bullet.  I've not regretted it.

Overall:

A timeless classic that has followed the same winning recipe for 50 years. Carefully and proudly hand crafted right here in the U.S.A.  Keith Richards is right, "This is the only acoustic guitar I will ever need."

The Gibson Hummingbird sings!

I just received this guitar last week and was blown away when I opened up the case.     It is strikingly beautiful.     The guitar felt great right out of the case with no need for a set up.     And the sound was magnificent.     I plugged it into my VOX AC15 and was amazed at the way this sounded.     I also own a Gibson J45 and was worried that the Hummingbird would not live up to the J45 but I was wrong.     This guitar is pricy...     Well worth the money if you are looking for a great looking and great sounding acoustic guitar.     I always wanted a Hummingbird and I am glad I finally made the purchase.

Very expensive.

I played a Hummingbird 20+ years ago and fell in lust on the spot. Owning one of these has been a goal of mine for a very long time. I finally have one and it is in no way a disappointment. This guitar sounds a good as the one I played over 20 years ago. I have a Martin and a Taylor also and they are both wonderful guitars but they don't hold a candle to the sound that is produced by this Hummingbird. When I ordered this there were 5 sales people trying to get a look at it when I picked it up. One of them kept saying "it's so pretty" and she wasn't too bad herself. This is one of the prettiest looking production guitars on the market and the sound matches just as much. If you can get hold of one DO IT!!!

My Best Friend.

I traded a seriously beat Flying V for a new 1969 starburst Hummingbird almost 40 years ago. I play it daily, and the sound becomes sweeter all the time. It took me a while to understand just how special this box is. The sound is flat heavenly. For years I've been searching for a better-sounding guitar. If I find it--and I've looked at some of the best guitars on earth--I'll buy it, but nothing I've tried belongs in the same room with the 'Bird. The action has never been the best, the frets are nearly gone, the lacquer is badly checked, and the case disintegrated a long time ago. But that sound! It's the music they play in heaven. The sound of a Hummingbird is instantly recognizable. I saw a movie last night about a country singer who played one. For all the awards the actors won, that guitar was still the star of the show. Get one to play, not to collect.
