The Gibson Hummingbird Artist is a square shoulder dreadnought acoustic-electric guitar handcrafted in the USA. Featuring a washed heritage cherry finish; solid, premium Sitka spruce top; and mahogany back and sides, this arresting acoustic-electric's tone is as ruby-throated as its namesake! A round mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard gives your fingers the ability to take flight over mother-of-pearl parallelogram inlays.
Plug the Hummingbird guitar in and jam with an L.R. Baggs Element undersaddle transducer and preamp that keeps the look clean with an ingenious soundhole mounted volume control. Binding is 6-ply on top and 4-ply on the back. Gold keystone tuners, a mother-of-pearl crown inlay on the headstock, tortoise pickguard and a traditional Gibson rosewood bridge complete the look. Gibson includes a premium hardshell case with each Hummingbird guitar.

I've had my Hummingbird Artist for a few years now, and I will say this guitar grows on you over time...it's not a 'cannon' as the term goes, but it has a nice, well balanced sound. I have it in my office and use it regularly when I'm working out a song. I think the mahoghany back and sides lend to it's midrange balanced tone. The electronics are superb and make it come alive when run through a PA or acoustic amp. Visually it's a striking guitar to look at(l love the inlays); as far as quality, Gibson fell in this one category--on the top of the guitar you can see where the workman sanded too deep, showing diagonal sanding marks in the finish on one side! No excuse for this! On the flip side, the amberburst finish is superb and looks like a desert sunrise. I got this guitar for literally cost, so I can live with those imperfections on the top; you can only see them if you look close. Yet I still think almost 2K for this guitar is too much.It has a tone all it's own, and sounds better with strings that have been on for awhile. It is not a guitar that does it all, but combined with excellent LR Baggs electronics, it still sings...Gibson's are not consistent in quality, so before you buy, try....

I was going to buy one of these Gibson Hummingbird acoustic or Acoustic electric but ended up buying a Guild Gad 50 E. I played this Guitar at the nashville showroom, Granted it may have been the Guitar I tried but I played more than just one and I am dissappointed that Gibson isnt taking better care and producing better guitars. The one that i played had poor action and just didnt have that sound that i was looking for. I own a Takemine, a DC16GTE Martin, a Simon and Patrick and a Gibson Les Paul plus the ne Guild I bought. I love the sound from the Guild and even though it is made in China. It is Handgrafted by Guild and sounds better than the Gibson Hummingbird. I would not recommend the Gibson

This guitar is simply amazing. Straight out of the case from Musician's Friend it had no problems. I am very pleased with it overall. Both it's rich sound and it's aesthetic look affirm Gibson's top-notch quality.

I can't think of much to say that hasn't already been said about this fine instrument. I use my Hummingbird Artist for singing accompaniment and it blends with my voice better than any acoustic I've played. I guess the two things I like best about it are the neck(wide, but not too wide). Hello! it's a Hummingbird neck! ...and the overall balance and tone. Honestly, I was shopping for a full 'Bird. But after giving the Artist a whirl it didn't take long before I was sold. The slightly lighter weight and slightly smaller size of the Artist seems custom made for me. And the tone is just that perfect mix of richness and moderate volume that you sometimes have to fight for when playing a full Hummingbird. Not saying a full 'Bird sounds bad. I'm just saying the Artist is a little less "in your face", which is perfect for performers that want to SONG to stand out most. It's the perfect singer's companion.

I have been playing guitar for 36 yrs. Yup! An old guy. I am a song writer and collector of guitars. 26 so far. Acoustics: I love Taylor (I own 3, a 315ce, T-5 and a solid Koa dread) I love Takamine (I own 2-EF341's and a EG523SC) I hate when guys brag about their collections on here but wanted to take a minute to tell players about the Gibson Humingbird Artist. Plays UNREAL, finish is perfect, playability is second to none. I love the size of the neck. And I've never played a more tonally balanced guitar. Crispy, fat and plenty of mid. I have never played a naturally unplugged acoustic that is louder. The on board pick up is very natural sounding. I would prefer some on board EQ but other than that this is my all time favorite. Remnds me of a friends 1950 J-50. If you're worried if this one is worth your hard earned money...Trust me....I love it...I'd buy it again if something ever happened to it. Tim

I bought this guitar for the purpose of using it as something i could hammer out my song ideas on; as sort of a workhorse. When it arrived, it met my expectations as far as tonal quality. BUT, over the last year or so that I've had it, it has grown tremendously on me. It seems almost as if the tone and playability improved over time. I now use it to record virtually all of my songs. In addition to this, the finish on mine is superb, I couldn't ask for more. I'll admit, I was skeptical at first of this buy, but it has developed into one of my most rewarding purchases ever. Great job Gibson; great buy!

I just got mine about a week ago and I was pleasantly surprised about a few things. First, the color is much better looking than the pics. The pics make it look darker than it really is. The specs say it's cherryburst, but it looks more like a honey color to me, anyway it's much better than I thought. Also, there wasn't a single flaw with the finish either. Usually from Gibson (at least with my guitars), the binding will have a flaw or two, especially by the nut and where the neck and body meet. It also said that the tuners were Gotoh keystones with white keys, but mine came with Grover Deluxe keystones with tan keys. Even with the new stock Gibson Masterbuilt strings, this thing stays in tune better than any other acoustic guitar I have. Finally, the sound is absolutely great. I was pretty sure it would sound good, but not this good. I have a Martin HD-28, a Gibson Southern Jumbo True Vintage, a Gibson SJ-150,and a Martin D-41. I'm seriously thinking of selling a couple of these, if not all of them, which were all more expensive guitars. If you're thinking about getting one, I think it's worth it. I've read some negative reviews, and maybe Gibson had a bad day or something, because mine is perfect. The set-up was actually pretty good too, which is another thing I've had problems with from Gibson in the past. You can't beat this guitar, especially for the price. I have $3,000 guitars that don't sound this good. $1,999 is a great value.

I bought a Gibson Hummingbird Artist from Musician's Friend on-line. Later I noticed that Guitar Center was running a special on the Hummingbird at $200 less. I notified MF and they immediately credited my account.Recently the guitar developed a crack on the soundboard--I returned it to Gibson and was given a brand new Hummingbird at no cost. Moral: Buy Gibson from Musician's Friend. Well Played, MF and Gibson!

I have owned this guitar for 3 weeks and it's a very easy playing joy. A very lively tone that does it all. I have a 1998 CL20 which is also a Bozeman made guitar and they are both very simular to the Songwriter. Anyone that's considering this guitar won't be disappointed.

I purchased this guitar for it's simple design, as I don't like the traditional Hummingbird Pickguard. I also purchased it for its slightly wider nut width, as I have clumsy, large hands.Right from the case, this guitar is good to go. A very good and professional set up in MT left me with nothing to do but play and enjoy.I am used to cheaper, $500 range acoustics, so this was a significant and welcome difference in sound, projection, and quality.Awesome guitar!
