    OVERVIEW

A modern edition of one of Gibson's most revered models.

This Hummingbird Pro Cutaway Acoustic-Electric is a dreadnought style guitar that features a Sitka spruce top, mahogany back, sides and neck, and a rosewood fingerboard. Other features include Grover tuners, split parallelogram inlays, an antique sunburst finish, and a Gibson crown peghead logo.

This Hummingbird Pro model also features a comprehensive Plek-assisted setup for exceptional action and performance. Speaking of which, the fingerboard edge has been softened to make it fit the contour of your hand and a finer grit sandpaper and polishing compounds in the high gloss finish make it easier to slide up and down the neck with ease. The fingerboard and bridge have been hand rubbed and oiled to help them last longer and maximize the rosewood's natural vibrancy. It also has an engraved truss rod cover and L.R. Baggs Element VTC pickup so you can enjoy it when your sound needs the bump of amplification.

    Includes hardshell case.

I love my Gibson Hummingnird Pro EC. It has an amazing full bodied tone, and exceptional sustain. The cutaway does actually make a difference as it allows full access of the upper register without sacrificing volume or tone. The fishman pickup system is great. You can dial in a wide variety of voicings and make it sound great through any system. Normally, trying to play through a house PA or something really sounds terrible with a cheaper pickup. Last but not least, this is a beautiful instrument. I am absolutely amazed at how great the sunburst looks every time I pick the guitar up. One thing I would caution you about, though, is that the neck on this thing is super thick. Personally I love the way the neck feels, but for most people it's too much to handle. I wouldn't recommend it for the hobbyist. This guitar was meant for the guy who really keeps his chops in tip top shape. But that should be no problem after you hear it for the first time. I certainly have developed an addiction to this instrument.
Couldn't ask for better quality features. Top of the line pickup and hardware. You can't go wrong with Grover tuners and Fishman Electronics.
Gibson quality shines through on this model. No complaints here.
Really wish I didn't have to spend that much money, but you gotta do what you gotta do to get the right one.

I bought this as a practice guitar. Buying a Gibson seemed like a no-brainer - to guarantee a quality instrument. Unfortunately I was wrong.

After waiting too long - past the time to return it, I am now stuck with a subpar instrument. It's at a Gibson approved luthier now who is repairing several issues (string height adjustment at both ends, fret height uneven and sharp edge removal, pick guard coming off). He also commented that this will probably need an earlier than normal neck reset in upcoming years.

I'm disappointed that Gibson allowed this to leave their factory in Montana, and that Musician's Friend clearly doesn't even look at the instruments before shipping. I feel duped and am mad that I did not bring it to an expert immediately before the return date.

Be careful, and don't make the same mistake I made. Do not trust Gibson or Musician's friend to make sure you are getting the best quality possible in guitars.

    Awesome Guitar

Comments about Gibson Hummingbird Pro Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Opened the case and the guitar looked great and the finish was flawless. Then I tuned it and played it. I wasn't impressed. Had a little string vibration (needed a little truss rod adjustment). Took it and had a setup done on it. Better, but still only an average sound (nothing special). Then I put a set of Thomastik-Infeld strings on it and "Holy Cow" I love this guitar. Not to advertise someone's strings, but they made a world of difference. A good set of strings turned this guitar from one that I was considering selling or returning into an absolutely awesome guitar that now I wouldn't trade for anything. The sound is amazing.
The string height is a little higher than I'm used to, but then I'm used to an electric guitar, not an acoustic. They're not too high though, and the playability is good without having to lower the action.
I would recommend this guitar to anyone wanting a nice acoustic with a great sound. You will need to do a setup, or get one done, and replace the strings with good quality strings.

    Amazing tone

    By Jeret Lockhart

Comments about Gibson Hummingbird Pro Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

When I decided to get another acoustic, it was between this one and a similarly priced Martin with the Aura system. They sounded very similar. I chose the Gibson because of the unparalleled low end and easy to use EQ. Sometimes if I'm doing some finger picking I like to quickly boost the lows. With the Aura system that seemed nearly impossible. With the fishman system on the Gibson, it's as quick and easy as moving a slider. Still, I wish the Gibson did not have the fret issue. Just play your instrument all the way up the neck on each string before you decide weather or not that's the one to keep.
The Hummingbird Pro Cutaway has everything anybody could ever need. Amazing electronics with EQ and tuner, playability, easy to change the battery, etc...
The quality is great with a few exceptions. Mine came with the 6th fret too high. It causes every string to buzz at the 5th fret. I have to get a professional to fix it. I have definitely seen a trend with Gibsons in recent years having problems like this. It is not a deal breaker for me because the guitar is so great in every other way. I can't say enough about the quality of sound. I've never heard an acoustic with such warm lows and smooth highs. I play it plugged in every week and fall more in love with it each time I pick it up.

    buzz buzz

    By Xujinjiang

Comments about Gibson Hummingbird Pro Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

The action is high and there's serious buzz sound on upper fret areas, which is the probable reason why the action is set so high.

I give it two stars because of musican friends' excellent custom service.

Comments about Gibson Hummingbird Pro Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've been shopping for a replacement to my 23 year old beater for several years. The Gibson Hummingbird Pro Cutaway met nerly all of the points on my wish list. The tone is typical Gibson, dry and woody with great balance and clarity, but the longer scale adds to it's depth and bottom end. I prefered it's sound over the HD28 which has a big bottom end and a bit of a scoop in the mids. This is the narrowest neck you can get on a non-custom shop Gibson acoustic, but it is still a little thicker than I prefer. The profile is more D-shaped than the HD28. If you're looking for a tasteful, premium-level, performance acoustic with a cutaway and great electronics, you'll be hard-pressed for find a better value.

Comments about Gibson Hummingbird Pro Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Bought this last week and received it Tuesday. Right out of the case, I knew it was going to be a player. I have a '72 Martin D28 that I bought new so this had to stand up to that comparison. It did. Although the Martin has a deeper tone, the Gibson can hold it's own. I imagine it will get deeper in time so that isn't an issue. The neck is a little wider so a short learning curve is required but all in all, this is fast becoming my go to guitar. It seems comfortable with whatever type of music I'm playing but I prefer my Martin for blues. That has a smoother low end and I prefer that but for anything else, This is my new preference.

Comments about Gibson Hummingbird Pro Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Bought this as an open box and it arrived needing a significant setup, like pretty much all acoustic guitars do. I would guess that this was a return and the original purchaser simply didn't like the feel of it when they played it. Well, a simple sanding down of the saddle - the action was roughly 10/64 at the 12th fret of the low E string - to about 7/64 really made this guitar play great. I also needed to humidify it a little and adjust the truss rod.

I do love the beefy rounded neck and the 1.67" nut width. All in all an heirloom guitar for me. Sounds nice and even when amplified, and no buzzing whatsoever, even with the lower action. I could probably lower it a bit more but don't feel the need to do so.

I was very lucky to acquire this guitar at a very cheap price. It plays like an old Les Paul. The pick up system is outstanding. I have been using my old D28 since 1992 and it is now retired..I beat it to death on about 1000 gigs...so now it rests on my wall and is used sparingly. This Hummingbird (which should not use that name, more like a J45 or something) has every acoustic sound imaginable. I will take better care of this one...Excellent Guitar. Impeccable finish,it's nitro so be careful,it wears real quick, scratches easy. I will be buried with it.

Such brilliance and projection, with a lot of full bodied mid range! Crack from repaired headstock is almost invisible! Great tone, and stays in tune longer than my Songwriter. A cold, dry winter lies ahead keep those Gibsons out of the basement, and invest in a humidifier, or humidipaks!
