OVERVIEW

The J-15 features the same round-shoulder body shape of Gibson's J-45, aka "The Workhorse", an incredibly popular acoustic that has been one of Gibson's best-selling guitars since it's introduction in 1942. With it's electronics and high-quality body construction, the J-15 can easily become your new workhorse as it can handle the demands of both intimate settings and larger venues.

Handcrafted exclusively at Gibson's Bozeman, Montana facility, the J-15 is all about North American sustainable tonewoods, with a Sitka spruce top which provides you with ample velocity, and sustainable American walnut back and sides which possesses some of the warmth of rosewood while adding a dash of mahogany's presence, all without the extra weight. This 24.75" scale acoustic-electric also features a neck-to-body dovetail joint secured with hide glue to ensure the resonance transfer from strings to body stays at a premium level throughout the life of the guitar. The J-15's radiused body with scalloped X-bracing provides the kind of projection and clarity that you expect in a more expensive model. The hand-sprayed nitrocellulose lacquer finish not only lets the tone of the J-15 to mature with age, but also allows the unique character and beauty of the guitar's woods to shine through.

When it's time to plug in, the J-15 will spoil your amp and ears even more thanks to L.R. Baggs Element electronics. Unlike typical undersaddle acoustic guitar pickups that are dependent on string compression for their sound, the Element was engineered to mirror the soundboard's actual movement as you play. At the heart of the pickup, a flexible film sensor only .002 thick picks up the guitar's most delicate nuances. Tracking the motion of the top rather than a direct string attack suppresses "quack" caused by compression and unlocks the Element's unrivaled dynamic range. The pickup's minimalist construction lessens any influence on the acoustic properties and creates an intimate coupling between the pickup and guitar for the highest fidelity possible.

Other appointments of the J-15 include an abalone rosette, a rectangular walnut bridge, a walnut fingerboard with mother-of-pearl dot inlays, Mini Grover tuners (nickel), a teardrop tortoise pickguard, a 1.725" tusq nut, and a traditional AJ headstock. You also receive a Gibson Standard hardshell case with black Tolex exterior and a blue fabric interior and Gibson's Gold Warranty (covers the guitar from defects in material and workmanship for the life of the original purchase, subject to limitations).

Whether you're about to embark on a tour or just want to step up your game with a high-quality USA-made instrument, you'd be hard-pressed to find better deals or better guitars, than the J-15.

US-made from all-solid tonewoods with dovetail neckjoint, scalloped bracing and L.R. Baggs electronics.

Very Pleased with the Gibson J-15. When I saw that this guitar had Walnut Back & sides I had to have it! Just Have a thing for Walnut tone wood. Looks and sounds great. Not a lot of guitars use Walnut and I'm not sure why, but to me it's very suitable for guitars. The contrasting maple neck and cream binding really pop and plays with a great action right out of the box. Grover tuners are nice also. Necks straight, finish is superb and overall build quality is right on.
It plays (action) very similar to the J-35 but so far noticing the trebles are a bit brighter in comparison. They all change over time, so keep playing em and enjoy the show!

Two different experiences with this new model from Gibson. I foolishly sold the first one I had to one of my guitar students who loved it. When a used/excellent one was listed by MF I jumped on it. Unfortunately, my guess is that it was a restock/return and I can see why. The fret edges where very rough, the nitro finish was poorly applied in places (especially where the neck meets the body) and there is a "bump" on the fretboard with a rise on the bass side between the 3rd and 7th frets, according to my guitar tech who is presently addressing these things and adjusting the action, which was much too high when the guitar arrived. So why didn't I just return it to MF? Because I like the sound of the walnut and spruce body, especially amplified. It is much more even and balanced than the J-35 and the short scale neck is easy to play. Bottom line - I will have to invest additional time and resources to correct issues that Gibson should have addressed (my first J-15 was perfect in terms of fit and finish).

Comments about Gibson J-15 Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is a great guitar for the money. It's loud and crisp - sounds just right for my strumming. I only intend to play it acoustically, and I haven't even plugged it in yet, so I can't tell you how it sounds when it's amplified. It's a beautiful guitar to look at as well - very nice walnut back and sides and maple neck. The top is only average, aesthetically speaking that is. I'm only giving 4 stars for the guitar I received, because of a few minor cosmetic problems that Gibson people surely chose to ignore (I fixed them). And as some people have been complaining about pick guard misalignment on their J-45s, mine is on slightly misaligned also. The action was too high, so I lowered the saddle 1/16 of an inch and it was ready to go ( I could lower it even a little more without compromising the break angle.) Overall it's a great sounding, beautiful guitar for the money and I'm very happy with it.

Comments about Gibson J-15 Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar should never have left the work table. The string, at the twelfth fret were two quarters high when they should have been on only one. The saddle was extra high to compensate for this, when a lower saddle was installed the second fret was higher than the rest of the frets causing a buzz which was clearly detectable without amplification, and extremely irritating when amplified. I will never buy another guitar without trying it out first.
I have had extremely good luck with the epiphone guitars I have bought and the mandolins and the harmonicas and the speakers and all the other things I have bought from Musicians Friend.

Comments about Gibson J-15 Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Great model from Gibson. I was looking for a different tone from the standard J-45 and the walnut back and sides of the J-15 gave me the tone I was looking for. It's a beautiful guitar with gorgeous woods and excellent build quality. If your looking at a Gibson slope shouldered dreadnought then the J-15 is certainly worth a look and it doesn't hurt that it's priced very reasonably either.

Comments about Gibson J-15 Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Great looking guitar with warm but defined harmonic tone. You will probably want to take down the action slightly but leave room for strings five and six to produce that nice deep tone. The side with high E string one is already low enough. Guitar needs time to reach its full potential. Currently the sound is contained but will project more with time. Well balanced tone at the moment. Not a fan of pick-guards in general. Rounded edge and thick. Will take time to get use to. Have heard horror stories of people removing it so I won't even attempt to remove, especially now. Tuners would be nicer if a touch larger. Looks like they etched the model year into the truss cover but it could be custom since this was bought used mint. I don't like the etching. It had a little mark, fortunately it rubbed off. Someone replaced the plastic pins with Tusq. I tried to do the same with a Martin and had the same problem where it pops out slightly on string six. I ordered some bone ones, and a bone saddle online. The bone saddle worked out well on my Taylor so I'm crossing my fingers. You smell that light layer of nitro-cellulose but that will wear off. The back of the neck is a little sticky but that will wear off too. The finish and the wood on this guitar is exceptional. The Walnut color and tone is out of this world gorgeous. Fret board walnut is nice and natural. Fret board width is pretty good and comfortable. I'm sure when I get my new saddle and find the optimal height the action will be good. I dialed in my Taylor so I imagine I can do it perfectly here too. I adjusted the J15 but it's good but not perfect yet. There are certain guitars that are hidden gems and defy the cost and this is one of them. This is a purchase you will never regret. I wavered back between the J45 and J35 and glad I got this one. One of these days I'll get a J45 but for now I'm loving this one. This has earned a space on my guitar rack.

I am extremely happy with the Gibson J-15. I currently own seven guitars and this is my favorite acoustic. The sound is better than my Martin D-28 plus it is considerably easier to play with decent action. Additionally it has a very attractive finish.

Mine came in exactly as they said in the catalog.Ready to play!although the strings are just a bit too hard (.011--052)sustain is awesome, and craftmanship is perfect.my only complain is the case kinda cheap looking compare to the old Gibson cases i've seen. the one i received came in with a loose handle "U" clevis the holds that plastic handle.if that is the way suppose to be then i'm sure it's bound to fail.I would like to acknowledge "Austin" the customer sales person who took my order...He knows His job and very helpful and patient.

Comments about Gibson J-15 Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

To start this is one of the best acoustics I have owned. I own multiple Martin's and Taylor's. The walnut on this guitar look amazing in person. To me however, the best feature and most unique part is the neck. Gibson acoustic guitars have an awesome neck that is unlike the other brands I listed. The guitar I received was setup perfect and of excellent quality. Best part is take 15% off the price with all the coupons on this site and you are at an excellent price point for a USA made instrument.
