Comments about Gibson J-160E 1961 Special Edition Acoustic Electric Guitar:
I have wanted a Gibson J160e for years. I have owned the Epiphone EJ160e for 12 years. It is a great guitar, but it is not the real deal. I have read so many reviews about the Beatle J160e with its laminated top and ladder bracing being a very lousy acoustic guitar. This one has the look of the Beatles guitar with its period correct burst but has a solid top and x bracing. It is the best of both worlds. It is strung with Gibson acoustic strings. I will try TI flat wounds at some point and plug in to my Vox AC30. It does have the correct pickup, the P90, as opposed to the P100 in the J160e Standard. A brief plugin reflects quite a bit of hum, but I don't plan on playing it out. Craftsmanship is great! Sound is incredible. Joe Lepinski of Musicians Friend was very helpful in getting me the information I needed to make my purchasing decision. Very professional. Thank you, Joe! I am very satisfied!
