Gibson Acoustic J-185 Acoustic-Electric GuitarGibson and Martin vie for the title of finest production guitars available. I own both, and play daily. I was looking to retire my old Gibson LG-1, as it had some damage to a rib. Playability was my first concern, and after trying many guitars, the J-185 came closest to my vintage LG-1. If you can imagine a new guitar playing like an eighty-year old classic, you can appreciate my joy and surprise. Musicians who pick it up simply say this guitar plays itself. That you can plug the J-185 in and wail, is yet another facet of the jem that is this Gibson. The craftsmanship in this guitar qualifies it as heirloom material, and I assure you my sons will inherit the best.
While running Front of House Sound for Camp Jam in the Pines, I had the pleasure of meeting and hearing some fantastic talent. One singer/songwriter named Geoff Achison impressed me to no end with his playing skills. I was also taken with this beautiful Gibson guitar so I just had to have one myself. It looks and plays like a dream. I recorded some of Geoff during that show and you can check it out. You can hear how great this axe sounds for yourself.
I've owned this guitar for over three years now. As it ages, the tone keeps getting better and better. The finish is getting a mellow as well. Brand new, the face was nearly as light as the sides of the guitar. It has slowly become more golden in color. It's an expensive axe, but you will never have buy another acoustic again.
I have been playing professionally for over 40 years and have played all most every acoustic electric guitar on the market. This guitar, the Gibson J-185ec, is the only guitar on the market to own and play. It sounds great plugged into my P.A., and my marshal valvestate. anything I plug it into is great. It is wonderful unplugged. And it came flawless. I have no regrets and will never let it go. On stage, it is the envy of ever guitarist that hears it and sees it. I won't let anybody else play it, it's mine.
