The classic details of Kris Kristofferson's original Southern Jumbo blended with modern features.

The Kristofferson SJ Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar is an accurately detailed re-creation of Kris Kristofferson's beloved Southern Jumbo acoustic, and a tribute to his legendary songwriting skills and genuine love of Gibson acoustics. Gibson's luthiers have spared no effort in creating this instrument inspired by the acoustic with which Kristofferson wrote such classics as "Me and Bobby McGee" and "Help Me Make It Through the Night."

Limited to a run of just 300 guitars, The Kristofferson features vintage appointments, blending the classic details of his original Southern Jumbo with several modern features, including the Fishman Matrix—an undersaddle pickup system with endpin mounted preamp and soundhole mounted controls. An aged vintage sunburst finish gives the guitar a beautiful, yet understated look that faithfully captures the distinct feel of the original.

Kris' long-time support for the United Farm Workers is also fully acknowledged through the genuine mother-of-pearl UFW logo on the 12th fret. A donation will be made to the United Farm Workers for every guitar sold. Kris Krostofferson's autograph is notably featured on each Songwriter Series label, and each guitar comes with an exclusive hardshell case designed specifically for this special issue. Play The Kristofferson and experience a fitting tribute to a modern legend, and the rich history of Gibson Acoustics.

Comments about Gibson Kristofferson SJ Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar because I attended a performance by Folk Singer John Flynn. The guitar had the best sound I had ever heard from the instrument. Following the show I was able to see it up close and ask him about it. It was a Gibson Kristofferson SJ Acoustic Electric. So I saved up my $$$ and was fortunate to be able to buy one. It is wonderful! And Musician's Friend was great too - very helpful and great prices.

          Work of Art

          By Gibson Les Paul Man

          from Edgewood, Maryland

Comments about Gibson Kristofferson SJ Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is simply a work of art; the design is so simple it will be lost on some but it is truly amazing. From the sunburst finish to the Mother of Pearl Eagle on the 12th fret it is an awesome guitar. I own a Hummingbird (also a work of art), a Super Dove, and a songwriter Studio EC all of which are pure Gibson joy to play but the Kristofferson stands alone in its sound projection and playability. The neck is fast and fluid, but it clearly works well for those with smaller hands or shorter fingers. The binding is all over the body and "aged" to give it a more antiqued touch. I did not like the period authentic tuners at first but have found that they are as good as any on my other guitars and very smooth to tune; they also stay in tune like they should. Gibson clearly makes some of the finest instruments in the world ( I would say the finest), and it is signed by a music legend like Kris Kristofferson which only adds to this amazing artists model. It is the best sounding guitar I have had the good fortune to play so I would HIGHLY recommend you get one if you can you will not be sorry you did!

          Gibson Kristofferson's SJ

          By Jeff-_SVdS

          from Indiana

Comments about Gibson Kristofferson SJ Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I wanted to write this review because of the guitar setup. I own one and I have played around with it for over a year. The guitar comes with the wrong type saddle. It should be vintage wide non compensation saddle with just a full radius which keeps the strings (1st & 2nd) from buzzing. The top can't take a lot of tension. You have to use light strings. I use Martin fx silk strings which are 11's and I tune down the guitar 1/2 step or one fret. So if you normal play a electric guitar or you don't have a stronge grip, this is the guitar for you. You get great tone and bass from light strings and you can bar cord all day long, bend the strings for the blues or play wild jazz chords with great jazz tone.People pick this guitar up in the store and the don't sound good with the set up from the factory. Makes me wonder were Gibsons head is at.I love this guitar. I have had 20 Martins (old and new), Yairi's and Collins guitars. If you like light strings with the tone of medium strings, you will love this guitar too.

          A magnificent instrument

          By James Calder

          from London

Comments about Gibson Kristofferson SJ Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I was lucky to find a used, 2009, example of this great guitar. It plays like a dream and, like all of the current Gibson acoustics, the quality and finish is superb.
