A Classic that's upgraded with coil taps, a rosewood fingerboard and Holly head veneer.

When guitarist and inventor Les Paul conceived the Custom model in the mid-1950s, he envisioned it as a “black tie” guitar suitable for the most elegant occasions. In the years since then, the Les Paul Custom has come to represent all of that and more. The most dressed-up of the Les Paul production line, the Custom is nevertheless a full-bore rocker, suitable for the heaviest riffs you want to throw at it, while still excelling on the blues, jazz, pop or fusion stage.

The Les Paul Classic Custom from Gibson USA stays true to its heritage, keeping the unique touches that make it stand out at a price players will appreciate. Featuring premium tonewoods and top-flight appointments, this is an instrument of astounding beauty and surprising versatility. With all the legendary power of the Les Paul Standard it has a Custom look that stands out from the crowd.

As with the best Les Pauls crafted since the early ’50s, the Les Paul Classic Custom starts with the legendary tonewood pairing of a solid carved maple top glued to a mahogany body. Marrying maple’s clarity and definition to mahogany’s richness and depth produces a tonal complexity that no single-wood guitar has ever matched.

Its resonance and sustain are only further enhanced by the deep-set quarter-sawn mahogany neck with 17-degree back-angled headstock. Optimum playability is ensured by a slim, comfortable neck profile that measures .800” at the 1st fret and .875” at the 12th. The guitar’s 22-fret fingerboard is made from rosewood, and inlaid with trapeziod markers, enhanced by a mother-of-pearl Gibson headstock logo and Holly inlay.

To ensure that all of these constructional features translate to the purest, richest tone possible, Gibson loads the Les Paul Classic Custom with a pair of '57 Classic humbucking pickups, routed through the traditional four-knob with coil taps and three-way switch control section. Made with genuine Alnico II magnets and wound with enamel-coated 42-AWG wire just like the hallowed PAF pickups of the late 1950s and early '60s, the '57 Classics yield creamy warm tones in the neck position and plenty of growl and snarl in the bridge, with funky, round tones in between.

A pairing of Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece ensure solid sustain and accurate intonation, while a set of premium Grover kidney-button tuners make tune-up a breeze. Each guitar comes protected in a black hardshell case with plush lining, and includes an owner's manual and adjustment literature

    Features
    • Traditional weight-relieved genuine mahogany body with bound, carved maple top
    • Mahogany neck with comfortable, slim neck profile
    • Rosewood fingerboard with trapeziod inlays
    • Pair of '57 Classic humbucking pickups in the neck and bridge positions with coil taps

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Classic Custom 2 Electric Guitar:

I have been looking for a Les Paul and thought I had my mind made up until I saw one of these at a local guitar store. I thought I wanted a flame top, but when I saw this in person the punk rocker in me rose to the surface I guess. The Maple top looks very much like an SG and gives this LP a unique look.

Mine is a little different in that it's a 2014 build date (maybe these are too) and the inlay on the headstock is a bit different. The rest of the spec matches up to a T.

The Coil taps add versatility, but I wouldn't say it makes this a Strat by any means... but it gives you a lot of versatility, and the tapped hum buckers are dead-quiet. I am playing this through a new Marshall DSL40 tube combo that is a PERFECT match. I also own a 2008 Crate solid state and it did not sound that great through it... where my strat sounds pretty good. Trying them both in the marshall, the Les Paul SOARS! it has such a fantastic tone, and again, the versatility is amazing!! I'd recommend this combo of Guitar and Amp!!

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Classic Custom 2 Electric Guitar:

After years with Gibson J-200 and other acoustics I finally took a leap to an electric. If money were no option would probably have gone with an ES model for less weight (maybe later when my wife recovers from this one).
The tone, playability, and quality though is excellent as one would expect when paying for a Gibson. Fun to play and love it!

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Classic Custom 2 Electric Guitar:

What a beautiful guitar that sounds as good as it looks. I've been a strat play for years but it never felt or sounded quite right. The '57 Classic PUs sound great thru my VOX AC4C1-12. With a little tinkering I can get sounds reminiscent of Page and Richards. The action is fast and comfortable, very low and buzz free. The opposite of my '02 AM DLX Strat. Love the 60s neck. It just feels right. A little more substantial than my strat but more deliberate. Oh and sustain, wow! Just love this guitar!

super nice guitar with bad craftsmanship. the neck or the bridge was set off to the high e string, so close there was no bend room.the low e had more than plenty of room it was 1/8 inch below the top of the neck.i order a replacement. i already have another classis custom they are one of the best guitars gibson sells. they just have to check there work before sending out to the consumer.

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Classic Custom 2 Electric Guitar:

This guitar is literally beyond belief. I have never seen a more beautiful instrument, or heard a sweeter tone. This guitar's sound is dark and thick, with a complex midrange, and a sweet top end. The build quality is superb in every way, and playability is without equal. The sustain this guitar produces is just ridiculous; you wont need lots of gain or compression, because the wood of this guitar keeps notes singing on and on. The neck is a little thicker than a slim taper, but still fast and comfortable. The pickups produce a balanced tone with the perfect output, just sweet and angelic. This guitar is faultless.

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Classic Custom 2 Electric Guitar:

I have a few Gibson Les Pauls, from studios to full blown custom models. The Custom Classic 2 first caught my eye because it looked so clean in the dark wine red with the Les Paul Custom binding package. As I became more interested in the guitar I realized that this guitar had all of the features that helped make the Les Paul an Iconic Guitar and it seemed to be priced right as well.
Now that I have Purchased this Guitar ! I am very satisfied and extremely pleased with my choice. This guitar is truly a Gibson Les Paul that should delight any Les Paul enthusiast or want to be owner. I'm not an expert on building guitars, but I don't think Gibson took any shortcuts in the planning of, or manufacturing of this model Les Paul.

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Classic Custom 2 Electric Guitar:

The Gibson Classic Custom 2: What's one to say, it's a Gibson...A true work of art, solidly constructed, tone to the moon, harmonics touching the edge of the Galaxy, and built to shred. But, looking closely to detail, the strings weren't wrapped around the posts with the proper technique. To some it may not matter, but for me this is important, especially since this guitar has no locking device at the nut. Aside from that, there was a considerable amount of string buzz everywhere. Now that's only because the action was set super low. This is an easy fix and I feel no matter what guitar you buy there is always a personal setup to expect. The axe does sound awesome...best described as pleasantly obnoxious with monstrous blended overtones and it's not shy to hog the frequency spectrum from low to high. This axe produces the tone...I would attribute it to the thick solid heavy construction and '57 pickups. I've played thru a lot of pickups and all deliver different tones, so it again is a personal choice as to what you want to hear, which has a lot to do with effects also. Needless to say, the action is super fast and you can probably almost get a speeding ticket if you're not careful. If the neck were a tad bit slimmer, not by much, maybe just seven thousandths in width and depth, this axe would have everyone speechless. I have the wine red model and it is beautiful. The binding is mesmerizing. All the hardware is big and bold as compared to an Epiphone...although I have an Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus Top and it is an awesome guitar with fabulous out of this world tone also. In summary, the Classic Custom 2 is hard to beat for the serious guitarist that knows, lives, and breathes guitars.
