Never ordered a guitar online before, not something I would normally do but couldn't get this particular model anywhere else, and didn't want to buy used. Was a bit nervous but pulled the plug, and I am sincerely glad that I did...not one blem, flaw, finish issue (love the goldtop, very nice "bullion")....absolutely perfect...I did "slightly raise the bridge on the high E side, but that's just personal preference....I absolutely prefer the mini-humbucker to the full-sized, but I have always gravitated towards Strats and "that" sound, so that probably accounts for my love of Deluxes (not to mention I think the guitar "looks" better with the mini's)...anyway, the guitar plays and sounds great, don't be afraid of the 50's neck (I was) because after two minutes, I started thinking "It's sort of nice to have something to hang onto for a change"...wouldn't throw away my thin-necked Strat, but I wanted something different and this fits the bill, plus it really is comfortable to play, and I don't have big hands, by any stretch...need to add straplocks, but that goes for any Les Paul...gave it a 4.5 for value simply because I'd always "like" to pay less...guitar came well-packed, only took a week (roughly---cross border). Oh, and anyone who says you can't get that "singing, violin sustain" with the mini's, sorry that you can't, but I can...all in all, great guitar.

I'll be brief as my previous review on this guitar did not "make the cut". In any event, it seems that the quality issues regarding the manufacturer of this guitar are true (at least in my experience). The 1st L.P. Deluxe I received had finish flaws (build-up of finish by neck joint, surface scuffs/scratches,etc.) and other cosmetic issues (i.e. volume knob digging into the finish). The wood quality was hardly better than a 2X4 and weighed a ton. Musicians Friend was great and promptly sent out another, which I must admit was "acceptable", but far from the quality one would expect from such a venerable American guitar maker.

A work of art

By Cuzinjake

from New Brunswick Canada

I could hardly contain myself as I fumbled with my exacto knife to open the box that read "Gibson USA" With the box out of the way my now nimble fingers flicked the multitude of latches on a beatiful hardshell, Canadian made case - with combination lock none the less!!! I slowly lifted the lid and honestly I am just now, a whoe week later, getting the sensation back in my head!!! What an absolutely stunning creature was staring back at me through the opening of this plush lined case... Wine Red, cream accents and pickguard, stunning polish... In fear I inspected, anticipating a flaw, back front, neck, under the pickguard... nothing, not a scratch, surface scuff, puddle of laquer or smudge of gunk anywhere to be found.Sooooo... I picked this baby up, plugged it into my newly aquired Traynor YCV50 and played like I have never played before - this thing was in tune OUT OF THE BOX!!! The set up was mint, no fudging with the bridge adjustments, no buzz - and tone - MUH GAWD - real nice.So before I say more, and before we see another price increase, buy yourself one of these babies and start rockin the house down!!!

In The Studio

I used this beauty when my band cut our first demo. No usually I am a strat man and stick with single coils, but this guitar blew my mind. I used it for every distorted part of the EP and I was very satisfied. I would someday hope to own this guitar but my income does not allow that at this time. Play it you'll see.

I have a '75 Les Paul Standard, but have always loved the look of the Goldtop. This guitar exceeded all my expectations. Looks great. Feels great. Sounds great, even with the stock Gibson strings. Looks like this will become my "go to" guitar. Let's see how it records.

Gibson Les Paul Deluxe

By Mr. Blue Tone

from Los Angeles

Amazing price for a real Gibson Les Paul. Exquisit craftsmanship and quality. This guitar has that classic Les Paul sound, solid and creamy and really bites in the treble position. Setup was nice and it plays great. I also have a 68 Custom but not for taking out to gigs. The Deluxe is a perfect sub and does everythng my Custom does without worring about banging it up. I love it.

I bought a original 77' LP Deluxe natural top for about the same price as the new one. But I have played the new one and it's not as good as the original but it is very, very close. But if you have the money get this no madder WHAT!

A Long Lost Love Returns

By G. Patrick Bryant-m.93U

from Madison, AL

I owned one of the originals back in the early 70s. It had great sound, a great feel, and was stunningly beautiful. It was, in a word, perfect. I sold it to a "friend" just before I left for Navy boot camp. He promised he'd give me the right of first refusal if he ever decided to sell it. He lied. God, I miss that guitar! I will definitely buy one of these gems and I strongly recommend you do, too.

Best Gibson at the Best Price!

The mini- humbuckers have always made this my favorite Les Paul model. Mine arrived yesterday from MF in perfect condition with the best Gibson factory setup I've seen in many , many years. Nothing to do but take it out of the case and play. It actually arrived in tune (1/2 step down for shipping)! Perfect wine red finish.Straight neck and beautiful fretwork. Low buzz free action It almost plays itself. I can see wy Pete Townshend used a Deluxe exclusively for 12 years with The Who. The best workmanship I've seen on a Gibson in (unfortunately) a long, long time. The guy who made mine must have just gotten a raise or come back from a nice vacation!

My Deluxe is extremely fine

By SecretMonkey

Although quality has improved at Gibson over the last few years, they still can vary greatly from instrument to instrument; (Depending on which worker finished which task.) I am very pleased with the Deluxe that I received. The fretboard was extremely fine with clear, even and straightdetail at the binding/fret joins. The fretboard was perfect, right out of the box. I only had to set intonation and lower the bridge height a bit. With the fine fretboard work, I could have it extremely low if desired. Very true and balanced tone in every position! This little guy SINGS and has more sustain than my Les Paul Standard! The pick-ups are a little loose but I'll add a little piece of foam or something under the pick-ups when I change the strings for the first time. This 'batch' seems to be a very high quality run and other reviews seem to support this. I am tempted to get TWO more so I will have one to save, one to play and one to trade! Incredible tone and timbre! Better than MOST of the Custom Shop guitars I have played! Yeow!

Gibson Les Paul Deluxe Goldtop

By OPX999

from Russellville, AR

When this guitar showed up at my door, I was excited to get it out of the box. When I opened the case, I was truly in awe. The cream binding was a LOT darker than I expected from the pictures, but cream is cream, and it still looks great. The finish and color was very impressive. The Sound through my Marshall JCM900 and Fender Cab was amazing. I have to crank the bass up a lot more than I would a Gibson '57 Classic in my other guitars, however, this guitar gives a very well-rounded sound for all the music I play.All-in-all, this guitar was totally worth the money. (Not to mention Deluxes are really hard to find in these days.)

Best Les Paul Value in USA

By Goldtopsbeattheburst

from RAPID CITY, SD

Mine needed a good basic set up when it arrived, but I'm very good at guitar repair so it didn't bother me. I love the guitar, and plan on making it a keeper and praying that my financial needs don't make me sell any more guitars. I HATE THAT. The neck, the overall feel of the whole guitar is perfect, and I've owned a lot of Les Pauls, all top dollar ones. This ones as good as any I've ever had, I'm glad I had the nerve to step up to the check out button and buy it. I didn't chicken out.

If you have never played the LP with the "MINI Humbuckers", you just don't know what you've been missing! I was reluctant at first to order one because I had never heard one, but after pluggin this thing in to my Fender Twin Amp I was simply amazed. As others have said, the set up was perfect and the Wine Red finish was a thing of beauty! The clarity and sustain are all you would ever want. When played through the gain channel this guitar really ROCKS! Great distortion and sustain that's hard to match at any price. I would jump on this thing in a heartbeat if I were you. A cool guitar at a very cool price...What more could you want???

I LOVE MY DELUXE

By Wally B (The Walrus)

from SHARPSBURG, GA

See all my reviews

I've lusted for a Les Paul Deluxe Goldtop since I was 16 (that's 32 years). When i was finally able to buy a Les Paul, the Deluxe Gold top was not available. Now I finally have the one I've always wanted and have sold my Les Paul Classic. The minihumbuckers sound fat and can be clean or just plain nasty. The bite really cuts through the mix and the neck is just what I've been looking for. Thanks to this site for hooking me up with that ax I've wanted for so long. My Deluxe is all the Les Paul I need! It's perfect!!

My first LP!

By KeaggyDude

from Canton NC

I have been in the market for an LP for quite some time, but hadn't been willing to take the plunge. My wife got me this deluxe for Christmas, and I couldn't believe it. Out of all that I've played and heard, this is absolutely the best tone and quality that I've seen. And for that kind of money, who could EVEN say anything bad. I was thinking I would have to drop 2 grand for what I wanted! Oh, and the minihumbuckers... what sustain and tone!

Lovin' This Goldtop

By RonSmithGuitar

from lyons, IL

I've played and loved so many guitars over the last 20 years. The big names and the small ones. For the price you'll not find a finer axe. I got the goldtop and just love the way it looks. Also plays as well as my other pauls. The mini pickups turned out to be great sounding and just what I needed. Not as warm as a std paul and not as bright as my tele. Just sits perfect in the middle. Great for Blues, Rock, Metal and my fave Jazz! I'm sure it will sound great in any style.Chord work is warm and lead tones cut just right.I'm so happy with this axe and at a few hundred less than the Classic and Standard. Now keep in mind this is a heavy pc of wood. THe back is one pc and looks great but has some weight to it. But worth every minute holding it up. If you want a Paul, this is a great place to start. Also Gibson calls these the 30th annv. model. That makes for a good investment. Color ,I choose Gold but the others color would look very cool also. You can swap out the mini humbuckers for p-90's with no mods to the body. Very cool! This axe has brought new life to my playing, I can't wait to go pick it up right now! Later, RS

Earns it's Name - Deluxe

By Matt Bedrock

from Rockledge, FL

See all my reviews

I own a collection of 30+ guitars, including a Gibson Les Paul Classic and two Les Paul Specials (a single and double cutaway) but I have always liked the Deluxe, since a childhood friend owned one. When I saw the sale price, I couldn't resist - what a deal! (for a Gibson). When it arrived, it was beautiful. The quality was excellent - unlike many complaints about Gibsons you'll read. The playability is good, though I prefer the slim taper neck feel of my classic and ES-335. Action and intonation adjusted to my satisfaction without problems. The tone of the instrument is unique and excellent as well. The mini-humbuckers have a brighter, crisper tone, more like my Firebirds, than the typical full size humbucker tone. If you switch guitars on-stage, like I do, the same amp settings I use for my strat, tele and jag work great with these pickups - no need to tweak up the highs. The goldtop finish is a beaut as well. I've had it on-stage with my Gretsch Silver Jet for some outrageous flash - I call them Paris and Nicky, cause they look so hot.
