Still a great guitar, but Gibson needs to stop chambering the bodies and go back to what Les Paul wanted out of his SOLID BODY guitar. These aren't supposed to be semi-hollow body guitars. Who cares if it's a few ounces heavier? I'll shoulder that load with pleasure for the great time-honored Les Paul non-chambered tone.
The Gibson Les Paul Standard is one of the best guitars ever constructed. In recent years they've started chambering the body, giving in to wimps who complain that Les Pauls are too heavy. This chambering does affect the tone and sustain. This is NOT what Les Paul had in mind when he designed a SOLID BODY guitar. The new Les Pauls don't sound as good as the older ones that aren't chambered. You're better off buying a used Les Paul from before the chambering years. It's still a great guitar and better than nearly everything else out there, but they've cheapened the brand by giving in to whiners about the weight of a Les Paul by chambering the body. This is a LOSER of an idea. Gibson needs to go back to what made them the best before I buy another one of their products. I'd give this guitar a 10 if it weren't for the chambering.
Again, I'd give it a 10 for quality if it weren't chambered. Great tuners, some of the best pickups available. Great workmanship all around, spectacular finish.
Gibson gets a 8 for value from me. Some people give them lower scores due to the high price of Gibson products, but they get a fair 8 score from me because even though you spend a lot for a Gibson, they do increase in value if you take care of them.

A Gold Top Les Paul Standard is in my thought about the only way to go It has the looks sound dependability of anything you would want in a quality guitar You won t go wrong getting one
The standard is the way to go Plays like a dream very smooth I play Blues and what it delivers is just amazing I play through a Marshall MG102 amp and it just kicks butt
I bought a used 2008 Gold Top and it is just flawless. I ve learned over time to just wipe it down good after you ve finished playing I use Gibson polish atleast once a week and it just looks sooooooo good
For what they sell new for if you can afford it get one I kinda shopped around for awhile and finally foud one 3 yrs old but just in great condition. The guy needed cash fast and got it for a steal with hard case Just a steal in my book I wouldn t get rid of it ever

Just purchased this guitar used in like new condition. This guitar is amazing you get what you pay for. There was only one set back I purchased the guitar in like new conditions and recieved a guitar with a cracked neck. I knew that the guitar would come with a few scratches but never expected to have a cracked neck. I called costumer service told them the situation they said I could return it but who wants to go through the hassle and time of returning a guitar, and not know whats wrong with the next used les paul they'll send. This site should be more specific on what the condition of there guitars are. Point in case guitar make sure you buy a expensive guitar like this in person and not online . You will never know what condition your guitar is in when its shipped to you. No one wants to be hassled with returning a guitar.

I didn't have to change the tuners, or add strap locks like I had to do to all my other Gibsons. I bought this guitar so I could actually play gigs with it and not just hang it on my wall. It feels good, sounds awesome and plays better than my other gibsons.

This is not a les paul standard. It weighs as much as an SG, which is a much bettter guitar. I have a 2003 LP standard. It's big and heavy, falls on the floor, put up with it, I got a friggin broken back.

I've tried other new Les Pauls, and they're getting weirder and weirder. Like the Axcess, IT HAS A FLOYD ROSE!!! that's not normal for a les paul. this guitar though, really sticks to tradition. it sounds beautiful (as always) and looks just as great! the gold top finish simpley glistens beautifuly! very excellent!

Not much I can add to what has already been said about this legendary guitar. They're not cheap, but quality costs money. I used to own a Les Paul Custom that was stolen. It was much heavier in both weight and sound. These current models are lighter in weight and sound better than ever.

One thing I can say for sure is that the new standard is awful. Now the plekking is nice, the tuners are nice, and they are welcome and needed improvements that should have been no brainers. But electronics are poor, the pickups are very muddy and worst of all, theyve carved great chunks of wood out of the guitar because the wood they use is so dense (read: not resonant) that to have this be non relieved would make the guitar about 12lbs. I feel like this is inexcusable at this price point. If you want a new gibson, be prepared to spend a lot of time finding one that is up to par with even the 90s offerings.

I?ve had the 2008 LP Standard for a month and have played several shows with it. I guess the one feature that I like the best on this guitar ? having had my reservations in the beginning ? is the asymmetrical neck. Man, it?s just comfortable playing a long show. As a pro player in a band where I deploy several guitars in any given show, I have a "main" axe that sees 85% of the duty, generally a LP. I have 3 other LP?s, all older and traditional. Since I have had this LP, I keep thinking something about it will disappoint me, but it hasn?t. Bottom line: Sonically, very articulate in the high-mids and highs, while retaining the beef in the mids and lower-mids that LP?s are known for. Some traditionalists may contend that it sounds like lots of PRS axes, but PRS?s, while brilliant and articulate, don?t have that beefiness sonically that a Paul does. This rendition of the Paul has both, along with some other new useful stuff. It?s a worthy axe for a pro player. Props to Gibson.
