I have been visiting music stores since the late 1950's, so my impressions of guitars date to that time, but I feel that the Gibson Les Paul ranks at the top level of electric guitar offered in the history of music. The only solid body guitar I own that compares is my 1965 Fender Strat .which has been my working axe for 33 years. Now there are many brands I have never tried, but I'm sure happy with what I've got. Also, you can't go wrong with MF, my friend in the music business since 1985! Their service, timely delivery and courtesy are tops!
I bought my cherry Les Paul Faded (Cherry) from MF in 2005, and I couldn't be happier! I'm 65 years old and had always wanted an LP but was too poor and did not desire a copy. Just yesterday I played my LP for over two hours and my playing just got better and better. That's what this axe will do for you, no matter what your style. My LP will always be with me, even though at my age I cannot play some of the wonderful styles expressed by Slash, Zack, Duane, Mike Bloomfield and other greats that I admire. The tonal qualities in my LP range from biting lead to lush jazz. I can honestly say that I feel no loss by not buying a more expensive model, and I have played plenty over the years. Thank you Gibson, and thank you MF for giving me this opportunity in my retirement to relive some good old days in my musical past!
Just a good old Gibson like my J-45, and I play that one a lot, too!
I think for tonal variety and adaptability when blending in with other band members on rhythm or lead, this economical LP can't be surpassed.

Solid Guitar - minor disappointments!

OK, I know this is about the most reasonable price you could ever find on a 'real' Paul, but there are a few things that bother me.
the model I got was the Faded Cherry. it is a very substantial guitar, but I have a couple 'feel' problems.
while the top of the guitar is pretty smooth, the back, sides, and neck are kind of a rough feel to them.
I tend toward tung oil as a favorite neck, but I play a lot of finished necks as well.
the neck has an unfinished feel to it, it's not a smooth piece of wood, since the face of the guitar is so smooth, I'm guessing the neck is finished like that for a reason, I just haven't figured it out yet.
(i'll probably sacrifice the 'faded cherry' a bit, and take some sand paper to the neck, to get it so it's not so rough.
the second complaint is to me the worst thing about the guitar.
the fret ends are sharp, and unfinished.
I know this is a 'budget' gibson, but I've had guitars that cost half of this one with better finished fret edges.
I'll smooth these out with some help from Stew-Mac.
when these two things are done, this will be an excellent guitar.
it will still be a Gibson Les Paul, and it will be great, but the frets especially, are something that I just think should have been filed down.

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar:
I have played many guitars over the years and love the sound of the LP tone, especially that of Thin Lizzy. I finally got a LP on an end of year clearance along with a case. Musician's Friend made sure to ship the guitar inside the case. My studio has BurstBucker Pros and the fat '50's neck. The sound is as perfect as the LP Traditional or Standard. I get all the classic tone of any Thin Lizzy song. The only real difference is the Studios don't have the binding or lush paint finishes. Mine has a worn brown satin finish. I removed the pickguard showing off her natural maple curls and mahogany grains on the back and neck. Mine has a baked maple fretboard. I was a little nervous there but I actually like it a lot. Her name is Cinnamon. She is perfect.

Great Guitar, pricing was good and shipping from Musician's Friend was fast. This is my 1st experience with a Gibson product wanted one for years lack of funds kept me from purchasing.I am impressed with ordering this over the web and not playing it first but it is a great guitar. This guitar looks good and better yet plays and sounds good. It holds its tune well and has that famous Gibson quality even at this price point! Iwould buy this guitar again and again!! Thanks

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar:
This has all the parts including a chambered body. IMHO this is amazing. Everything is great except the back of the neck was a little rough and the stain job bites.
However I took it to my Luthier and we sanded down the back of the neck ( without jeopardizing the integrity ) and applied a smooth lacquer finish. This sweet heart plays beautifully and with the weak finish on the body with the chambers you can trust that it will just get a warmer and sweeter sound over time.

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar:
A Gibson Les Paul for that price, you should buy 2! Had to change the strings & have the action retuned. It's a little heavier than i'm use to. It sounds and plays like you would expect a Gibson to.

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar:
Been playing for about 15 years, I usually use a Gibson Flying V Faded and a Fender Mexi-Strat for straight-up rock, metal, blues and reggae.
This guitar is awesome! I was really worried about all the new LP studios being "chambered" as I want that classic sound and heavy guitar, but it still sounds and feels really solid and the Burstbucker Pro pickups are SO articulate and defined! Way better than I expected. Great deal.
