OVERVIEW

Everything you've ever wanted from a Les Paul, plus figured maple.

In 1983, Gibson came out with the Les Paul Studio, featuring the same carved-top craftsmanship and world-famous Les Paul tone, but slightly simplified to make it more affordable. Now a lot of players prefer its cleaner visual appeal. The Gibson Les Paul Studio Plus enhances this appeal with a figured AA carved maple top set off by gold hardware. 490R and 498T Alnico II magnet humbucker pickups crank out the tone you crave while the 22-fret rosewood on mahogany neck plays fast yet feels solid and substantial. Pearloid trapezoid inlays complete its visual elegance. Tune-o-matic bridge with stopbar tailpiece.

FEATURES
  • Mahogany neck and body
  • 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with pearloid trapezoid inlays
  • 490R and 498T Alnico II magnet humbucker pickups
  • Carved figured AA maple top

This is the fourth Gibson I have owned in my life. I have an old S1 (look that one up!)a custom shop explorer from the 80's and a '73 LP deluxe. THIS GUITAR IS THE BEST! I cannot even put into words how easily and smoothly this guitar plays. I normally play an '80's charvel..(nice) but now that I have this guitar I haven't touched my char. The tone is pure les paul and the neck is super fast. Did I mention the looks?OMG it's Beautiful. I bought the iced tea and she is incredible. Sustain for days. Now...for the bad stuff. The case has the fuzz inside and it came already falling off. I just glued it back. No biggie. The selector switch for treble and rhythm had some issues. When I switched between the two the treble kept cutting out. This fixed itself after a couple of hours so I'm still holding my breath. Also, there are a couple of small flaws in the finish but you'd have to look hard to find them. All in all, this guitar is worth a helluva lot more than you have to pay for it and I would highly recommend it. Many people worry about the no binding issue but this lines are very clean. The wood is of very high quality and I was shocked by how nice she looked. By the way, people talk about how heavy LP's are but this guitar is much lighter that my charvel. Very comfortable. I'm very happy with my purchase. Thank you Musicians Friend.

i love my les paul ...damnit!

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

i've noticed a slight difference in weight from my 93 les paul studio. this seems to be a tad lighter, although the sound is almost the same as my 93. i'd say a tad brighter than i'm used to in the treble selection. but still vintage les paul sound, baby! extremly happy. i bought the transparent black version of this guitar and i'm not disappointed at all. one of the most beautiful things i've ever seen. Les Paul is all i'll ever play! and i've played em all.

Great guitar for straight ahead rock. Great in standard tuning, but lacks a little in drop-D.

Dependable Guitar

By Jim-9TSru

from Boonton, NJ

This was and still is my first good quality guitar and I couldn't be happier. For the price I spent for it, it feels like it shouldve been a lot higher. The finish on this guitar is awesome and is just a marvel to look at. The factory settings suited me well and I only had to lower the action just a tad. However, it has a couple of kinks but I got used to it because they were minor and do not affect the guitar greatly. Great for blues and rock n roll but if your looking for metal I'd look else where.

JUST BE AWARE BEFORE YOU BUY!!

As in the title, beware of the finish before you buy. the actual guitar finish looks nothing like the pic. Look at the lp standard 60's burst finish and there it is. now, this guitar ROCKS!! I've been playing it actively for a while now and this thing is incredible. very versatile and easy to play. get one if you can. god bless <

1 word........AWESOME!

By Martin-nE-r3

from Cumming, GA

I have experimented with many diferent guitars over the years (ESP, Fender, Gibson SG) but no other guitar even comes close to the LP Studio Plus. I strapped in an EMG-81 in the bridge and an EMG-85 in the neck. With the combination of an already brilliant guitar along with powerful pickups, it allows me to chunk out riffs with incredible brightness and clarity. The neck is insanely smooth, too.

Better than a Studio and less expensive

By Scout-ddpoU

The Studio Plus is actually less expensive than the regular Studio, and in my opinion it looks better with transparent colors showing the wood flame. Why would you want to pay more for a Studio when you can pay less for a better Studio Plus?

By jjmads

This Les Paul was everything I ever wanted in guitar and more. It was even better looking in person than it was in the picture. It's exactly the quality you would expect from Gibson. I'm very happy with my investment.

The guitar is great! Looks like a million bucks, plays fantastic, and sounds like a Les Paul should sound. The case is as nice as the guitar. I can't believe that I own one of the best guitars ever manufactured!

A beauty and a beast

By Toadman

from Manchester, UK

Bought new in 2004, from a close down sale. The shopowner had it in stock for 3 years, apparently customers didn't like the Studio Plus because it didn't have the binding - what idiots!! Well I got the deal of the millenium, flame maple translucent red (discontinued I think) at half the price of a Standard - and looks the beauty, plays a beauty, sounds like the beast you'd expect from a Les Paul. Awesome Guitar.

Less than a Standard, Same quality.

By Brad-vE6cp

I got this for xmas after playing for about 10 months and it was well worth the money. It's cheaper than the standard but sounds juts like a gibson should. People say im good at guitar but this thing makes me sound gr8 at guitar. Get it today.

"Settled" for the studio because it was so much cheaper than the classic. I couldn't be happier. It plays and sounds better than I could have hoped!

A sweet ax

By erniesturn

Gold humbuckers, beautiful AA figured top, and no body binding make this the sweetest looking and souding ax you can imagine. This is the "stealth" Les Paul that is coming in under the radar screen. Not a cheap version of an LP, but actually a hot version in its own right. Buy it, love it, and don't ever lose it.

SUSTAIN!

By Rick JAmes Biatch!

See all my reviews

Before buying this guitar i never really knew what sustain was. well now i do! The diffence between this guitar and a fender strat or ibanez or jackson is unbelievable. I just got this guitar for chirstmas, what a great present! I spent 2 months picking out this guitar from others, i played many ibanez, jackson, and fender guitars. I am completely satisfied with my choice.

A rockin' axe

By Anonymous

A great overall value... great for rock. The gold hardware seems to wear over time. The finish holds up, and it's a pretty cool guitar. (The desert burst is the best!)
