I have been extremely happy with this guitar. In addition to the beautiful appearance of the natural finish of the guitar, the tonal qualities of the swamp ash are spectacular. I have never heard sustain like this wood produces from a guitar before, its really incredible. You can hit a chord, and it just rings for quite some time. Although I use no distortion and very little effects in my playing, the tone of this guitar was so powerful that I had to reduce the level of effects that I was previously using. Please note that although the picture shown here has no freboard dots, the guitar does have fretboard dots. I highly recommend for this guitar for anybody interested in great tone, incredible sustain and a great guitar. I really love the tone of the swamp ash! In addition, these guitars are made with sustainably harvested wood (rainforest alliance certified) - nice job Gibson!

Very nice guitar. However I would think Gibson would spend a little time and effort to set the guitar up to at least be playable. The Gibson checklist shows Action and Intonation as having been checked. Maybe someone should have checked again. The nut height is way to high and the intonation is so off no two chords are in tune. Then after a month the center toggle position decided to stop working. It tone is great though. I was looking at a nice used G&L at the local guitar shop for half the price that sounded great and was set up perfectly.

Crunch and sustain!

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Swamp Ash Studio Electric Guitar:

Tons of sustain, and so much crunch it is just beautiful. I played in drop d when i bought it last year, it screamed. the rhythm pickup is outstanding for warm sustaining cleans. I later set it up for Drop C.. HOLY MOTHER, it sounded nearly as good as my Caparison. you like thick, chunky distortion, along with warm rhythm tones, and beautiful sustain all around, then this is for you at a great price

Should have a Maple Neck for this kind of money

Ask me a question

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Swamp Ash Studio Electric Guitar:

Overpriced and really a plain LP with an ash body. A little brighter, but not a lot of versatility.
Checked one of these out recently and honestly, this is really only worth about half the asking price. Really. I've been looking for an ash body guitar with a maple neck and looks like I'll be going Ibanez RG471. My main gripes with this one is the cheapness of it. For this kind of money Gibson coulda put a maple neck on there and really had something (along with coil taps).. As it is corporate bean couinters won and you get a ash body with mahogany neck. Huh? Ruins all the sustain. I agree with another older (40-something) poster that the neck is way too big; profile could be cut down a lot slimmer but when youre working with mahogany thicker is better. So, you get a baseball bat.. If there's an example of why foreign guitar manufacturers are eating Gibby's lunch, this is it. Too much emphasis on profit than turning out a good instrument & way over-rated. Sorry, I'm going elsewhere.

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Swamp Ash Studio Electric Guitar:

This is a quality guitar overall. I own this and I find it to be the best out of all the Gibsons I own. I even find it to be better than the 3 Gold Tops I have. Very good for playing any type of music. I reccomend it to any person who can afford it.

Fat Neck!

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Swamp Ash Studio Electric Guitar:

First let me just I don't personally own this guitar. A close friend of my bought this AX and I tried it on for size and was overall impressed. However, what stopped me from going out and getting one was that baseball bat neck. Gibson is in love with this profile these days. It?s on damn near every guitar they make with rare exception. For a lot of us baby boomers who have finally reached a point where we can afford one of these--a lot of us unfortunately have arthritis and/or tendinitis and really appreciate the slim neck profile. He?s in the same boat and tells me he will most likely sell his. Even though he loves the tone--it's killing his fretting and. I agree. Otherwise it?s a great guitar. My only other gripe is the rather poor factory set up quality control at price level.

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Swamp Ash Studio Electric Guitar:

This was my first Les Paul and I have to kick myself for waiting so long! This truly is an incredible guitar. I have played acoustic for a while and had a Strat a while back and have Gig'd with PRS, ESP, and Jackson and I have to say that this is truly an amazing axe. The looks alone make it a crowd pleaser and the 498 and 490 humbuckers give a good clean sound as well as that good ol' Brit crunch. This is a must have.

Excellent Guitar

By Jamdelta5

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Swamp Ash Studio Electric Guitar:

This guitar is great. It seems like every time I play one of the 3000 or 4000 dollar Les Pauls I'm constantly discouraged because all there cheaper models are lighter and play way better. So why spend an extra 2000 or 3000 dollars. I play mostly rock on this guitar and this thing really kicks some ass. The neck isn't too big and round like some Les Pauls, and the intonation is great so for all you shredders out there you can really kill it. I put some EMG pickups in it and the tone is just perfect. I gave the features rating a 4.5 because it doesn't have a whammy bar, and I'm a whammy bar freak. But this guitar sounds so good I don't really care. Definitely buy this guitar

Great Les Paul

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Swamp Ash Studio Electric Guitar:

I saw this guitar, picked it up, played it, and bought it. It is one great looking guitar and plays like it. Only downside is lack of a pickguard and fret markers. I had a black pick guard installed and it really sets it off. It plays clean or overdriven and everything in between. Beautiful guitar.

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Swamp Ash Studio Electric Guitar:

I went into the store to buy a new guitar. A Gibson specificly. In the case behind all these other Gibsons was this one and I said "That one right there!" Played it. Said "How much?" Bought it. Will love it forever. Tone is amazing. My buddy has a LP Classic reissue and he likes my guitar better. It will be something to pass on to my kids.

AWESOME LP

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Swamp Ash Studio Electric Guitar:

Only reason quality is 4.5 is because of the toggle switch, which is a big problem with a lot of gibsons. Sound is unbelievable, with a bit less mids than a reg LP. With 11-50 strings, the highs really shine through, and, when pushed, has an awesome metal low end. The unfinished mahogany neck is unbelievable and only gets better with wear.

Awesome guitar

By GibsonPlayer206

from Albany, NY

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Swamp Ash Studio Electric Guitar:

OK, so the aesthetics aren't there: it lacks binding, block inlays (I have dots), and locking tuners, but it has the right pickups, setup, and feel that I expect from a Les Paul. I owned a 79 LP Standard in 80-83, but it was sold behind my back when I left for the Navy. Anyway, the only flaw in the finish I have is that there is a hair in the finish on the headstock (maybe someone brought a cat to work?). As far as setup and sound, I got this new from the box; and with a little adjustment for my personal touch, I was in business. Also, I run around like Angus Young, so I put straplocks on it. The hardshell case looks great, and the interior is right from Austin Powers's bedroom with its white, fuzzy lining.Looks aside, this guitar smokes. As I said, I played a LP when I was younger, but now my back and shoulders need a lighter axe, and the Swamp Ash fills that need. I wanted the meaty sound of a Gibson w/out the instable neck joint of the SG. I play through an Ernie Ball vol pedal into a Fulltone Fulldrive 2 to the front end of a Fender DeVille 2x12. I also have a custom American Strat and a Rickenbacker 4003 (bass). The LP adds a new, much needed voice to many of the songs I cover and write.

Gibson Les Paul Swamp Ash Studio

By FingersMcgee

from Pembroke, Canada

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Swamp Ash Studio Electric Guitar:

Bare bones and beautiful. I went into the store with $6000 (no joke) to buy a new guitar. I spent all day there, I tried some PRS models, some Fender Strats, well basically anything American with a double humbucker configuration or at least on humbucker. And honeslty this is the guitar that stood out high above the rest. With any type of drive it can scream at you like nothing you have ever heard then stick it in the neck postion (rhythym) and it is as smooth as silk, clean or distorted (must be the swamp ash) and it is honestly the lightest Les Paul on the market. I play quite a wide range of rock (late 60's to now)and this guitar suits it all. I was always a Fender Strat guy, (Jimi is the man) and don't get me wrong nothing can do what a strat can do, but I can't put this friggin guitar down. It is my weapon of choice and I think it always will be when it comes to rock or harder blues (ie. George Thorogood, Grady, Big Sugar or anything with a slide) actually it even does an excellent job of any style of the blues or any music for that matter(I prefer a Strat for playing the blues without a slide). Honestly, buy it, buy it, buy it!!!!! It will never leave your arms and you will never regret it EVER!!!!!
