Classic looks and features that rocked the world.

The New Les Paul Traditional wraps several crucial features into a classic Les Paul that always just seemed right, echoing the specs of guitars that rocked the world through the 1980s and ’90s. The New Les Paul Traditional’s tonewood combination retains the great sound of the original Les Paul Standard, with an unchambered back for a thick, meaty tone and superb sustain.

Its rounded late-’50s neck shape reflects one of the most popular profiles ever used on a Les Paul. Two PAF-style humbucking pickups with Orange Drop tone capacitors give no end of power and finesse. All this, and the new Les Paul Traditional looks outrageous with its Grade-AA figured maple top beneath a high-gloss nitrocellulose lacquer.

The New Les Paul Traditional is built on a foundation of the same traditional tonewood combination that helped to make the Les Paul Standard legendary when it first arrived six decades ago. A carved solid Grade-AA figured maple top lends bite and articulation to the sound while looking great in the process, and a solid, mahogany back without weight relief contributes superb warmth and depth.

A quarter-sawn, Grade-A mahogany neck is glued in and carved in a comfortably rounded late-’50s profile that measures .900” at the 1st fret and 1.00” at the 12th, and topped with a bound Grade-A rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium-jumbo frets and traditional trapezoid inlays. Traditional touches include cream body and fingerboard binding, pickguard, and pickup rings, along with gold Speed Knobs with dial pointers. Classic Gibson construction ensures optimum playability, too, along with traditional specs like a 24 ¾” scale length, a 1 11/16” width across the PLEK-cut Corian™ nut, and a 12-inch fingerboard radius for smooth, easy bending.

Pure vintage-voiced tone with a contemporary edge is assured by a pair of Gibson’s ’57 Classic™ pickups with traditional chromed covers. Both are made in the image of the hallowed PAF humbucker of the late 1950s with Alnico II magnets, a traditional wind in the neck position for plenty of warmth and clarity, and slightly over-wound coils in the ’57 Classic Plus™ in the bridge position for juicy crunch and wailing lead tones.

Both pickups are wax potted, too, to avoid microphonic squeal at high volume levels, and routed through Orange Drop tone capacitors to their individual tone controls for a smooth, rich high-end roll off. The innovative pairing of a Tune-o-Matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece ensures solid sustain and precise intonation, while a set of high-quality ToneProse™ vintage-style ensures smooth, accurate tuning.

Each guitar includes a Gibson hardshell case covered in black snakeskin-textured vinyl, an owner’s manual and truss-rod wrench.

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Traditional Electric Guitar:

Let me first say that I do not own this guitar, but tried it in a store in utah. I have always hated Gibson Les Pauls and always hated the way they felt and thought that they were over-priced poop. This broke that mentality.
I own a fender tele, and fenders are well known for how easy they are at bending and makes the note bending seem effortless. This Les Paul was far easier to bend on than my tele. The action was flawless, the strings as close to the fret board possible without buzzing, the neck was incredibly straight, the burst and finish on the honeyburst was gorgeous, the binding on the fret board was inmpeccable and that was something i had hated before about Gibsons. The sustain on this bad boy was incredible, and the pickups sounded amazing. The tuners were easy to turn and stable, and the 50's neck just felt wonderful in the palm of my hand.
If I had the money i wouldve dropped it on that guitar right then and there. This guitar changed my perceptions on the new Gibson Les Pauls, and i am an extremely picky person with guitars. Bravo Gibson USA on making such a fine electric guitar.

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Traditional Electric Guitar:

I've played for about 20 years off and on. History of guitars owned would be Strats, Ibanez, ESP and other various brands. Last year I broke down and bought a 2012 Gibson standard SG. My most expensive purchase to that date. I couldn't believe I had waited to long to buy such a great guitar. Its just sings and felt. Fast forward to now. I sprung for the 2013 Honey Burst model of this and I could not be happier. This thing blew me away more that than the SG. The pickups are raunchy(for my playing style that is) but clear and full of tone. Its my first time playing with 57's in a guitar. Pretty sure I will be putting then in my SG now. I'm playing through an Orange Th30(LOVE IT) that I purchased at the same time. This thing rocks. Its also sounds just lovely with the cleans too. The action on mine was perfect and a little easier than my SG which I thought was great. Basically I'm happy as could be and if you are on the fence this one is a winner. I bit the bullet and went for it and so happy I did.

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Traditional Electric Guitar:

Perfect out of the case. I got the Chicago Blue and the color and the maple showing through must be seen to believe. Great neck. A good hand full. Nice medium wide flat fretboard. The tone from the 57 pups is right on it for just about anything you want to play. I have a 2000 model Gibson Les Paul standard that I love, and this traditional blows it away. Just the right amount of gain out of a Paul. Nice clean sound on both pickups. Sustain for as long and you like. I have been playing for 35 years and have over 30 guitars. This one is in the top 5 and right now is my go to guitar. Great balance. I cannot wait to record with this beauty. And above all, a solid body, no chambering and no coil tap. This is what a Les Paul should be. Simple and mean. If you are thinking about this, get it. You will not be sorry.

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Traditional Electric Guitar:

I owned a 1981 Les Paul Custom that I got new in 1981. I had only been playing for a few months at the time and got it new in 1985. Yes, it had hung in the shop for 4 years before I walked in and picked it. As I got better, I always wondered what all the fuss was about les pauls as mine was nothing special. I finally resolved to trade mine if I could find a good one (since I never play it as I like my fenders and epiphones better). I played several Standards today, but none of them felt as good as the Traditional. It isn't that much heavier, and it is a good bit lighter than the custom I traded for it. The neck is great--very thick and round and fills my palm well. I find it much more comfortable than the slimmer 60's style necks found on the Customs and Standards. Also, the 57 Classic pups are great--I liked them much better than the pups in the Standards I played and what was in my Custom. The coil tapping and phase switch on the Standards are a nice feature, but I won't miss them and I found the tone to be a bit thinner all the way around on the Standards. The search is over. I now have the Les Paul I've been looking for since 1985.
