OVERVIEW

A classic instrument with a wealth of modern-day features.

With all the usual features of a classic Gibson Les Paul, including a mahogany body, bound mahogany neck, and a bound maple top, this guitar has some unique features that really make it a true player’s guitar. Locking Grover tuners are standard, with a very easy to play “Vintage C” shape neck. It comes with a ’57 Classic Humbucker in the neck position and a Super ’57 Humbucker in the bridge position.

The truly great thing about this guitar is the electronics. It has two coil-split push/push pots for each individual pickup, which allows you to turn your pickups from a humbucker to a single-coil with a push of the volume knob. The bridge tone control also acts as a push/push coil-split selector. This is a very cool feature allowing you to select which coil is active when the humbucker is in the single-coil setting, giving you all the tonal control you could ever want. And this guitar would not be complete without a 10db boost push/push pot, allowing you to boost your sound that extra bit for those solos and leads.

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro IV Electric Guitar:

I had been wanting a Les Paul for a while, I was looking around and saw many new and used Les Pauls at many different web sites. I also reviewed all of them at the Gibson web site. After many months of searching, I saw this one on sale, I looked it up again at Gibson, it fit with all the features I wanted and more. I am glad, so glad I made this purchase.

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro IV Electric Guitar:

I always wanted a Les Paul and took advantage of a great price. Musicians Friend shipped quickly. The Traditional Pro IV is outstanding! I did have to spend some time to properly set it up, which I consider normal, and it has exceeded my hopes. A few notes about the published specs, as they are not 100% accurate. This model is an exclusive MF/GC model and Gibson doesn't publish specs. Here's what I know. It shipped with a box that says Pro III which has Satin back and neck and different pick ups. This guitar has a gloss red back and neck. Very nice! Pickups are classic 57 and Super 57. In the bridge pickup cavity is written LPTP36 which means Les Paul Traditional Pro 3 60's neck. I much prefer the 60's neck so I'm very happy with the discrepancies. It is a bit on the heavy side at 9lbs 11 ounces. Very pleased with the guitar and can't put it down!

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro IV Electric Guitar:

It's a non-weight relieved Les Paul, very heavy, with great time. The finishing touches are 10 notches above the Studios I have owned in the past. The tone of the '57's is really the best humbucker sounding guitar I own. The special electronics, really sound like a single coil and the ability to switch between the screw and slug coils in single coil mode is amazing for a bit thicker single coil sound. The 10bd boost sounds killer in all modes, humbucker or either single coil mode. This guitar unlike the Studios I have owned STAYS in tune, I'm sure the Grover locking tuners help but I believe it is more about the QC that went into the build. The neck is straight, placement of the TOM bridge and Stop Tail Piece are in the correct position and it's the first Gibson I have purchased that did not have a goofed up nut, it's cut correctly. Did I just finally get lucky after who knows how many guitars that have blown through my front door. My ears are too sensitive, I can hear all the notes when I play and this is the 1st guitar I have ever purchased that I did not have to spend a ridiculous amount of time trying to set-up because open cords sounded way off and pickups were off balance, to loud on the highs and to low on the opposite. I could not be happier, the fit and finish are perfect, the playability is as good as it can be and the tone is what I have been chasing for years. I told my wife, I'm never selling this guitar. My advice buy it if you can afford to do so it's a real Gibson Les Paul.

      Great player guitar

      By Gidtar

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro IV Electric Guitar:

Really happy with this guitar. It all started with how easy it was to play and how great the pickups sounded! The Super 57 in the bridge position spanks my Marshall pretty nicely (best way I can describe it). The coil-split gives another world of tonal options and I like being able to switch which single coil is active! Helps further adjust the tone. Guitar stays in tune very nicely because of the upgraded locking tuners as well. However, I did not care much for the boost. I actually went as far as completely disabling it (rewire pots to bypass boost circuit). My biggest problem with the boost is there was no middle ground. With boost off the pickup output was slightly lower than it should be. When boost was enable it was a little too hot, even if I adjusted the trim pot for the boost circuit. Bottom line, I am not a fan of the boost. Once I disable boost the guitar was 100% ready to go for me!

Most versatile Gibson of many I have owned

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro IV Electric Guitar:

I have owned a lot of Gibsons: 4 Les Pauls, 5 or 6 SGs (maybe more), Explorer, L6S, Tennessean, 335S. Spirit II and more I can't remember, but they have always been limited to 2 humbuckers. When I've tried guitars with tappable humbuckers before, they always had a weak single coil tone. This is the first one I've ever played with really great, useful single-coil tones with the pickups split. I'd trade any other Gibson I have ever owned for this one in a heartbeat.
