Very well made and appointed. Sound sort of a Les Paul with some hollowbody quality. The 57 classics are my favorite Gibson humbucker. Richlite fingerboard is very nice and fast. I did add a Vibramate Spoiler to the Bigsby to make string changes easier and quicker.

The ebony with white trim looks sweet! Plus, it was on sale.

Oh yeah, this is a keeper.

When I saw a USA Gibson at such a good price, I couldn't pass it up. Couldn't be happier. Sounds great, set up well out of the box, nice case, everything you would expect from a USA made guitar. Bigsby is a nice touch.

My new Midtown Standard is a great guitar, but it needed a level and polishing upon receiving it. That added another $150.00 to its cost. But, I otherwise like the guitar so much that I sucked up the extra cost and inconvenience of having to bring it to my tech for the L&P. TB

Great guitar. It is well built, fine crafted, with top end features such as the superb Gibson 57/57 plus pickups. It sounds great and looks outstanding. It takes to pedals well. Very versatile. Amazing clean tones and really barks when over-driven. Great for blues, classic and hard rock. From BB King to Jimmy Page, you can hit the mark with this guitar.
MF does a good job of describing this guitar and they are very accurate. Bottom line upfront - this is a great guitar. Essentially a Gibson "ES 335 Style" guitar with dual 57 humbuckers and a bigsby. I bought a black model. The quality is Gibson Les Paul Standard level! I never played a guitar with a bigsby before so it will take you some time to get the feel. It is nothing like a Floyd Rose or anything similar. Not a big fan of it but it is not a minus when I evaluate this guitar. It is very unique. If I were to change anything on this guitar it would be to get rid of the bigsby.
The frets, finish, frets, tuners, pickups, binding etc are all top notch. The guitar feels great to play and looks fantastic. Pickups are great. The guitar is good for most styles and shines when playing the blues.
The value is great. Yes, it is an expensive guitar but at this price point there is nothing comparable. The quality is right there with more expensive Gibson's. If you want a hollow body style guitar that is a real Gibson, this guitar is great. I was considering the Epiphone Dot or Epiphone BB King Lucille for a long time because the Gibson's are so expensive. When I saw this guitar at the price point it is being offered with all the top end features, it was worth the risk of ordering it and taking it for a test run.

Well, first off, I ordered Red, but after a long wait was sent a black, and loved it! I then reorded a red again, and this time within days received a lovely red. I played them both side by side and was going to return the black..but the black one played and felt better, so I sent back the red. Musicians Friend mad a mistake when they sent out the wrong color but they couldn't have been more helpful and it was the 1st and only mistake from them, and I order lots of stuff from Musicians friend. I am very, very pleased with my Black Midtown. PU are silent but still have a great top end. I would have given it a 10 if Gibson would have thrown in the truss rod wrench (it was supposed to be there but someone in QC might have been sleeping.
I love the bigsby and the rollers on the bridge. not rel found of 1 vol and 1 tone, or where they, and the pu switch are located...to close to the bigsby arm when in use.
Great build, great finish, but quite playable as well. I have used it in a few sessions and it is very versatile! The black finish is like a fine yamaha grand piano!
I think it may just be the best value gibson ever offered. And Musiciansfriend is the only place I care to do business with.

Get one before they're gone. You'll be glad you did even if you don't "improve" it as I have. I play it through a Carvin VT 50 head into a Fender open back cab with 4-10" Carvin bass speakers and a Tech 21 2x12 extension cab with the stock Tech 21's by Eminence.(Head version of the Bel Air)
Nice body size. As the previous reviewer said, it's not super light, but nowhere near Les Paul/boat anchor territory. The pickups are nice, but I swapped them out for a set of Seymour Duncan P-Rails with a couple of micro switches added between the tone knob and the selector switch: I'm addicted to these pickups. You can get a bazillion different tones by combining the various coil options.
The selector switch is aligned a bit stupidly: It's straight upa and down like a Les Paul's, which is fine on the LP, but awkward in this guitar's location. Easy fix to loosen teh nut and rotate it a bit clockwise. The Grover Tuners are a BIG step up from the crap Gibson usually puts on. This is my first Bigsby in 48 years of guitar playing. It has almost zero range compared to a Strat or, my favorite, the Stetsbar, but it give a nice little warble, which is all I really need anyway. One "feature" about the Bigsby that baffles me is that there is a stop that prevents you from getting the bar up over the strings, which is where I prefer it. Next string change, it's going to get a trip to the grinder! (You may gather that I don't mind "improving my guitars! Let me tell you how much $$$ THAT has cost over the decades!!!!)
One REALLY stupid thing Gibson has been doing for quite awhie is using a 300k ohm LINEAR volume pot... You have to turn it way down to effect any real volume change. Note to Henry: The human ear responds logarythmically, so use a log-taper pot! Sheesh...
The quality is the best I've seen from Gibson in a long time. The mahogany neck shape is perfect and the dark grain filler they used is gorgeous. The white binding and other stuff might look better in cream/ivory, but those colors have been overdone in recent years, so... (One really stupid thing I've always noticed about Gibbos is the labeling on teh selector switch: "Rhythmn/Lead" facing down away from the player so you have to read it upside down!!!)
The wiring is nicely done with cloth covered wire. (Not that the cloth cover makes any difference, but it does give an old-time feel to the control cavity!) I got the red one and would have like a flamed top, but I'll get over it.
The sucker stays in tune very well, something that most of the Gibsons I've owned wouldn't do. Maybe it's the Grovers. Those Klusons are vittually useless, IMHO.

Wow. Gibson really hit it out of the park with this axe. The fit and finish are really the best I've seen o(I own a les Paul, es 137 custom, and sg) The neck is fantastic and right out of the box the set up was amazing ...low and precise with the pPleck system. Really nice since it is a compound neck and can be compared easily with the super fast Ibanez prestige wizard ii. The dynamics are wide and expressive (soft and loud playing provides tonal expressiveness) The neck pick up is narly and has tons of character. The bridge pick up is smooth without sounding muddy. Playing clean through a Class A tube amp is a real test of a guitars pure power. I ran mine through a Crate (yes Crate) V16 pure Class A tube amp. The tone was phenomenal Just super clean and beautiful. Great for playing cool jazz charts When I run the gibby Through a Mesa triple rectifier and a four by four Marshall stack it crushes...really strong blazing sound without breaking up. I can't get that kind of tone out of my Les Paul Traditional.
What could be better than a ten. Even the bigsby wham is a hoot. It stays in tune due to the Schaller roller bridge. Body reminds me of aa cross between an Es 335 and a ricks backer 360. Not heavy but not light.....can be played for hours without back pain. The binding is perfect and the paint is free of defects.mthe neck really flies and and makes this Giby feel like a sports car. The pickups give mountains of tone without being all volume and no tone like SEymore Duncan invaders. Just a great guitar at a crazy low price. It really is in the class with the ES series...so it's an amazing value. I sold off a bunch of equipment just so I could grab both the black and the faded red. You never know if Gibson will make very many of these,
The value is beyond anything they've done. It's a hollowbody carved out of solid mahogany and maple....not a oppressed laminate like the Es series. The fit and finish is perfect and the tone is out of this world....Value A++++++++++
