    Gibson

Known for its versatile tone, comfort, and great feel.

Some guitars take a while to find their place in the world. Though not actually a new design, there has been a big resurgence of interest in Gibson’s innovative Nighthawk, known for its versatile tone, comfort and great feel. The scale length of 25-1/2 inches makes this a little snappier than most Gibson guitars. Seriously scorching output is delivered through dual BurstBucker pickups. The BurstBucker 2 in the bridge position is a humbucking pickup wound in the range of Gibson's '57 Classic for replica sound. It has unpolished magnets and non-potted coils, just like the original. The BurstBucker 2 is slightly hotter than the BurstBucker 1 in the neck position. Working separately or in tandem you get the full range of classic Gibson tones at your fingertips. The feel and tone of the Nighthawk is enhanced by the baked maple fingerboard, which adds the snappy response of ebony, but retains a warm, traditional medium-brown look like pau ferro. A great addition to a collection or a primary axe when versatility is important.

    Baked Maple:
Aging maple through a “baking” process called torrefaction. The wood is kept at 200-300º F for a period of time until the wood knows it’s no longer a tree; Moisture is restored under pressure. This makes the wood very hard, sonically “live” and extremely stable. The snappy sound of ebony, with the look of medium-brown pau ferro. Many boutique manufacturers are now using this because it improves the wood with no chemical treatment, it’s environmentally friendly and is great for making better sounding and playing guitars!

Comments about Gibson Nighthawk Studio Electric Guitar:

It's a Gibson and that pretty much sums it up. The sound on the Nighthawk is brighter and the sustain is incredible. Much lighter than the LP Custom and feels exceptionally light. The neck is smooth and the action is great. The toggle along with the tap knob makes style selection a breeze. This is one beautiful guitar and will quickly become my choice guitar for playing.

Comments about Gibson Nighthawk Studio Electric Guitar:

I've only had this Nighthawk for 3 days, and I can't put it down.
My main guitars are a 50th aniversary Jaguar, and a USA Tele.
The Nighthawk really shines in tone and sustain. It's so comfortable to play. Light and snappy. I bought it without even plugging it in. I may have just been lucky, but if this guitar is an example of the quality Gibson is putting out for under a grand (street cost) then consider me converted. Nice job on this. It will be my go to guitar if all stays well. Knock wood.

Comments about Gibson Nighthawk Studio Electric Guitar:

Highly recommended, this is an excellent instrument that will cover all styles except probably jazz to some degree. I didn't have any problem with finish, workmanship, etc., though my attention was mainly directed to qualifications of an instrument rather than nice looking item. The neck was straight with practically no buzz. It sounded close to Les Paul but with more snappy sound. I may replace Burstbuckers with Classic 97 in the future. Burstbuckets sound great on Les Paul especially on higher volumes, on this one in my opinion they lack the depth. The only problem I had was stings not distributed evenly over the neck. The first string was too close to the edge of the neck and during playing slipped under neck occasionally. This problem seems to be common to some Gibson guitars even Custom Shop models due to having glued in neck that can be a little bit off. Fortunately for this model the bridge has a different design that LP and allows shifting string a little. That brought it back to playable condition, even though the first and sixth strings are still visibly not symmetrical with respect to the edge of deck.

Comments about Gibson Nighthawk Studio Electric Guitar:

I have several Gibby's and this one just as fun as any I've played. I've always been intrigued by the Nighthawk and glad I got one. I have Silverburst and its shiny and gorgeous. Great sounding pickups and no problems whatsoever. I just wish these came with a hardshell case instead of a goofy bag.

I also wish Gibson would at least sell the factory cases for all their guitars that don't come with a case. I mean the real ones with white lining, not those silly one's with black lining and "Gibson Gear" or "Gibson Accessories" written on the outside.

You would think that Gibson being #1, would take more care in quality. The finish isnt bad,but the prep-sanding.I work with wood, and 2-minutes of sanding would have eliminated the problem.Im dissapointed in Gibson!!Ive only played it once but was happy with what I saw.

              Worth every penny

              By Joe Barbeau

              from North Bay, Ontario

Comments about Gibson Nighthawk Studio Electric Guitar:

This is a great guitar for those who want the tried and true gibson sound with a little something extra. If you get the chance I'd strongly recommend giving it a try.
I saw this guitar sitting at the local music store a few days ago and thought it was a fairly standard gibson product, albeit one that I'd never heard of, but after researching it online for a little while I had to go back and give it a try, and oh man am I glad I did. Being a fender player, I've always found gibsons to feel dainty, like a little toy guitar, but the longer scale of the Nighthawk means players crossing over like me won't have any trouble playing this guitar. The BurstBuckers are remarkably bright as far as humbuckers go, and with the coil split they get a nice chimey tone that rivals my telecaster, not something I would have expected from a gibson. However, kick on the drive channel and that's when this baby really starts to howl. From Dire Straights to ZZ top to Zakk Wilde, this guitar covers it all with ease.
The nighthawk is a beautifully crafted guitar, the finish is gorgeous (I have the silverburst), but above all it just feels right in you hand. I would say this is quite a solidly built guitar, though I still wouldn't put it through the abuse some of my other guitars have suffered.
