The Robot invasion continues.
The Gibson Robot Explorer Ltd. is an electric guitar that offers all the power, tone, and performance of a traditional Explorer model, with the addition of the revolutionary Robot automatic tuning system.
Gibson's Robot Guitar, the world's first guitar with robotic tuning technology means you don't have to tune up your guitar every time you play it. The Robot Guitar does it for you. Just plug it in, dial in the tuning, strum the strings, and play.
The self-tuning system is built into a gorgeous Gibson Explorer Ltd. guitar without changing its looks. All the sound and playability that have made the Explorer one of the most successful electric guitars of all time are retained. To tune itself, the Robot Guitar uses an onboard central processing unit (CPU) that analyzes the pitch of each string as detected by the Tune-Control bridge. Tuning information from the CPU is relayed to the motorized tuning machines that efficiently adjust each string to the correct pitch with a distinctive whirring sound that lets you know Robot Guitar is on the job.
You activate the Gibson Robot Explorer with the Master Control Knob (MCK) that functions as a tone control in the down position and is pulled up to activate the tuning system. In addition to standard (A-440Hz) tuning, six commonly used tunings are selectable from the MCK. Users can also program their own custom tunings as well as set the guitar's intonation. Now, with the Gibson Robot Guitar, you'll spend more time playing in tune. In live performance you can easily change tunings practically soundlessly on the fly, keeping your show flowing smoothly. There's no longer any need to haul several instruments to the gig to cover various tunings”The Robot does it all for you!
The Robot Explorer Ltd. has a mahogany body with a nitrocellulose finish. The mahogany neck is hand-shaped into a rounded C-shaped profile and is topped with a rosewood fretboard. A Gibson 496R Hot Ceramic humbucker in the neck position and 500T Super Ceramic humbucker in the bridge position deliver smokin' tone. Four-conductor wiring allows connection of a push/pull pot for coil-splitting. Wax potting reduces the chances of microphonic feedback. The performance-safeguarding Neutrik jack secures the cord into the guitar.

This guitar is simply amazing, and I don't use that term lightly. I am in love with metallica and this guitar looks just like the one James Hetfield uses, except his is white and this is dark red. I also love the robot tuning system, and besides this guitar I also own a gibson robot flying v and a gibson robot sg silverburst. Out of my 3 robots and my other 10 guitars, yes I own 13, this is by far my favorite for many reasons. First is that it looks and feels awsome. The dark metallic red color gives it a scence of mystery and pure metal on stage, it is a very unique color, which is also one of the reasons why I purchased the v. The neck is so smooth and the fretboard is the perfect size, that playing anything on it isn't a problem. Another reason is the robot tuning system. This makes it so easy to get ready for diffrent songs durring a gig, because of all the fast tuning options available. Also this is good because if your suposed to have several guitars with diffent tunings in a song, you can use this to avoid having 5000 guitars on stage. This reduces the risk of getting all mixed up with diffrent guitar parts. The sound you get from this guitar is what makes it all worth it though. It's harcore yet easy to play, and the sound comes through amazing no matter what brand of amp or effects you are using. It is truly the ultimate guitar of its kind, and better than any explorer or gibson I've ever played. It does cast a pretty penny, but its worth all of ti in the end. Buy this guitar you will not regret it.
This guitar looks amazing, and I have only played it once. I played it on a Peavey 6505 with a speaker that was probably a standard Peavey one. It sounded AMAZING!!! It reminds me of a Destroyer by its looks, but don't be deceived! It plays much more smooth and the notes ring out clear and crisp. Get this deal before it's gone! If you have the money, and want something nice and out of the ordinary, definitely consider this!
When I first recieved this guitar I was kind of thinking "Meh..it's just an Explorer and an ugly one at that." I was just going to put it in the closet and hope it appreciated in value, but I couldn't help myself and just had to play it.I ran it through a DoD stomp box and into a Marshall and it sounded awesome! All the warmth and fat sound you'd expect from a Gibby. Within an hour of playing with it I was eyeing my Les Pauls with hate in my eyes. The self tuning feature is amazing. I'm not sure if it's $1000 worth of amazing, but it will spoil you quickly. Pull the switch, hit the strings, and the guitar does the rest with a reassuring whirring sound as the machine heads pull the strings tight.I do believe I have a new favorite guitar.
