Nice guitar but the Gibson factory dropped the ball on this one. However Musicians Friend made it right. "Discount Coupon"  I was not sending it back as the finish was very nice in fact perfect. So the guitar came and as I eagerly unwrapped the pic guard one of the neck pick up screws came out. It was stuck in the plastic covering. WTF!!! It was never set. So I had to un string, remove bridge, remove pick guard and set the screw into the spring, then into the pick up. After that I found the neck was straight, too straight had string buzz on third fret. So after adjusting the neck and setting the whole guitar up again, including intonation blah blah.. I was done. thanks inspector # .... , Now It plays like a dream and love the P 90's perfect sound for the music I grew up with.  This baby can take it's place alongside my Les Paul and Fender Strat. It is as light as my fender which may not sound like a compliment, but try hanging a Les Paul around your neck for a few hours..

A Great Player's Guitar

Mine is the Special (NOT the faded model). I have never been a fan of the 50's neck profile since I have been using the same 60's neck Les Paul for many years now... BUT... the neck on this SG is totally comfortable and playable, I mean DREAMY playable! I love the Alnico II pickups since I prefer to get my distortion through my amp. The bottom line is that this is a very versatile guitar that is suitable to virtually any style of music. My only wishes is that it had coil splitting, at least on the neck pickup, and that it came with an actual hard shell case instead of a gig bag.

I can't ask for more, the Gibson SG Special is the greatest purchase that I have ever made.  This instrument's tonability is nothing short of impeccable to my ears and taste of music. Note, despite the fact that I had to get locking grovers to keep this in tune, i'm quite a lucky 16 year old guitar player if I do say so myself and am proud of my instrument, period.
