Comments about Gibson SG Special Electric Guitar:

although through a misprint of neck size (states 60s) but it is actually a round 50s profile I had to send it back because of my small hands. BUT this was by no means a bad guitar, the pickups sounded FANTASTIC for hard and heavy rock, great screaming metal sound too and to my surprise when put through a clean amp stayed very clear and soulful with lots of character. the fretboard had that precision manufacturing that you would expect being american, I dont care what you say the imports NO MATTER WHICH ONE do not have this level of accuracy in their fretboards. all notes were clear and defined.intonation was spot on. stayed in tune perfectly. I noticed that the chrome on all parts was of much higher quality than ANY import ive seen. The plastic was of a higher quality than the imports too (I worked in the plastic industry I know good stuff when I see it.) only cons I saw were that the finish was a hair sloppy and wood prep was a little too quick. BUT as long as Gibson concentrates on whats important (precision feel and sound) they have my vote. The gig bag was of high quality too, perfect stitching and very soft plush interior that will bath this guit with soft protection. If you read the fine print Gibson backs their guitars with a rock solid lifetime warranty, this guitar is so solid and well built, I doubt you would have to contact them EVER with an issue other than to talk shop or pat them on the back for a job well done. Even with the few flaws for this price it kicks behind seriously. One really dumb thing to mention but I have to do it,, is I like the scent of the nitro finish, a lot of Imports smell toxic. If you want a classic American guitar with a few modern twists this could be your baby!

Comments about Gibson SG Special Electric Guitar:

Well being new to guitar (6 mos) I decided that I wanted a professional level instrument to further my studies with and maybe eventually play live with. In a prior band my guitarist had an Epi Prophecy GX with the Dirty Fingers pickups and man did I absolutely love that tone. So when I saw Gibson put out an SG this year with Dirty Fingers pickups, I was all over it. At this price point, I expected something much more than what I received. Even post set up there's buzzing on the low E string. The Black Obeche fingerboard feels cheap. Mine actually has a few imperfections in it, which I was none too pleased with. I will say that for SGs being notoriously top heavy, this one is light and balances wonderful. The finish looks great and the pickups are everything I could expect. But I can't get over the fact that this thing looks like a $1000 guitar, but plays like a $250 guitar. I'm considering trading up for a higher end Les Paul. Anyone wondering for insight on Gibson's use of new woods on the fingerboards, my vote is Black Obeche isn't for me. I'm going to take this thing in for a set up one more time, but I have a feeling that it's just not going to be the right guitar for me.
