Comments about Gibson SG Special HH Electric Guitar:
Excellent guitar. The 490T Treble pickup just wasn't clear enough for me. I exchanged it for a Seymour Duncan 59. Which was more affordable than a 498T which is the standard in the SG Standard.
Features are bare minimum 2 pickups, 2 volume, 1 shared tone. If you want to, you could add a second tone, there's room in the control cavity. Included gig bag does not fit as nice as bags that come with other Gibson USA instruments. It is very tight and is hard to get the instriment in and out.
Really nice, I wish hoever, that I had the natural model. I saw one at Guitar Center and I like the natural finisih better than the cherry one that I have.
Excellent american made, which really makes a difference in my opinion.
Comments about Gibson SG Special HH Electric Guitar:
I love the USA, and I love the Dark Cherry Hell Humper that Gibson has proudly
whittled from a beautiful tree grown on the 3rd lanet from the sun. I rate this, a fanastic
modders dream. The Mayan's would be proud to play this guitar during an apocolype
And I cant wait for the Luck 2013 model and limited edition 2112 Gibson.
May it never be placed in a case...
This is a USA made Gibson SG with a satin flat finnish. The brown displays the wood
grain nicely. But the dark cheery has been dipped in some type of very dark stain, that
is actually beyond cherry. I would say it is a ripe cherry that has a touch of molton iron
blennded in. The finsih was applied better than the typical faded series which had runs
and uneven stain. The guitar is light, the neck width is adequate for bending and running
the strings. It does not have the rosewood. I think this is a good feature that brings down
the price of the guitar. The neck will break in well with a little mixture of spit, cigar
ashes and cheap wine smeared on the finger tips. The neck joint seemed sturdy and
the C shaped profile is good for Chording. The duel humbucking pick ups are uncovered,
and I prefer the neck pick up with the tone turned down for the Hendrix rhythm tone. The
toggle switch can also be quickly flicked bacitk and forth for some interesting phasing
effects, and it did not break. The bridge and nut seem to hold the lower neck harminics,
but your nut going to find harmonics all over the neck with the initial set up. I plan on
putting some extra super light strings on this HH and tuning to my favorite psychodelic
DADGAD drone tone. I also plan on putting in some orange capacitors. My favorite
bridge modification, consists of using some longer screws and nail polish, then a
small bar magnet stuck to the bottom of the bridge. The magnet seems to prevent
the strings from breaking. I think this Gibson would even be better with a single HH at
the neck, and a single volume contol near the bridge for volume swells with the pinky finger.
I really wish they would come out with a "Nudist Model" with natural wood, and natural neck
with no headstock adornment, but this will have to due until they realize les is better..
This is a no frills SG, with basic Humbucking hell humper sound grabbers. The finish is satin
and the stain on the brown is minimal as to display the wood tone, while the stain on the Cherry
is a magical concoction of iron and charcoal mixed with the juice of a fresh cut angus steak.
It's inexpensive, it works, it projects string vibration like a humback wall laying on a transcontinental communication cable, and its made in the USA from a real tree .
I think it will be a valuable sound projector, that relies on the skill of the guitar humper, verses the shiny pretty fingers of a stringed instruementalist. I do not think it will go down in history as an
expensive collectable SG. But it will be a modders delight, perhaps as envied as the Zaps
SB with a modded Pignose. And remember, this guitar was available in the year 2012, which
even the Mayans seemed to like it so much that they based their callender on it. And hopefully the Earth will continue to exist beyond the year of this SG enlightment. The cost could be even lower if they left the stain, finish and strings off of the hurling finger tapper.
