OVERVIEW

A perfect combination of classic features and modern versatility.

The Gibson SG Standard '61 with Coil Tap Electric Guitar combines all the familiar features of a standard SG, and a little more. It has a mahogany body and neck. The rosewood fretboard has trapezoid inlays, but without the 2014 anniversary inlay and it comes with standard vintage-style tuners.

This model is called the '61 because it has a smaller pickguard that's identical to the original models from that year. Electronics include '57 Classic pickups in both positions. These have the most vintage sound that Gibson can offer. This SG guitar also comes with push/pull coil-taps on the volume pots and a chrome tune-o-matic bridge with stopbar tailpiece. Hardshell case included.

Comments about Gibson SG Standard '61 with Coil Split Electric Guitar:

All the features you need and no robotic tuner if you don't want it. The coil split is nice. Great clean tone in all 3 positions and not muddy in any position unless you scoop out the tone. Frets were perfect. Stays in tune well and the wood grain on mine has a swirl I've never seen on an SG.

Only 4 stars because guitar came with a terrible set up. The rear pickup was touching the strings despite the guitar having the highest action I've seen out of a factory. Despite having a QC check sheet saying it had been checked, it was unplayable through an amp. Wolf notes galore from the magnetic interference. Had to lower both pickups, lower the bridge, adjust the neck and reintonate. Once that was done, it was perfect.

Comments about Gibson SG Standard '61 with Coil Split Electric Guitar:

Love this guitar it truly gives the classic SG sound and the coil taps are a great addition. Set up was off pickups too high, action too high so I did some adjustments and reset the intonation and now it sounds and plays great. Solid 5 stars

Comments about Gibson SG Standard '61 with Coil Split Electric Guitar:

I've had this model (in desert burst) for about 5 months now. This guitar feels great to play and sounds amazing. Sounds great through a Super Reverb clean but it really shines through the lead channel of a 6505. The coil splitting doesn't really impress me, but if I want single coils I'll just grab my Stratocaster. Tuners are great, stays in tune, finish is flawless. When I bought it, I did have to raise the pickups a hair and fine tune the intonation but that's no big deal to me.
