Like I said above, I loved it so much that after it was stolen, I got the exact same guitar with the insurance money. I was extremely depressed like I lost a family member after it was taken from me. Amazing guitar. I love it.
I started playing guitar when I was 11. I am 32 now and have played my share of different guitars. I currently own plenty of guitars but have always wanted a Gibson SG. I mentioned that to my girlfriend when we started dating. She put away 10 dollars a week for over 2 years without telling me and on Christmas 2 years ago, surprised me with the money to pick out my own SG. Needless to say, we are married now. I just heard bad things about the stock pickups so I installed a DiMarzio Super Distortion in the bridge position. My band had a show a couple of months ago and I had it in the common band equipment storage area and another band stole it. I was heartbroken. However, homeowner's insurance covered everything but a $500 deductable. I saved that up and bought the exact same guitar. In the months that I was without an SG, I had to go back to my old guitars and it was amazing how much harder they were to play after having an SG. I couldn't get the sound I wanted anymore and solo riffs seemed like my fingers were dragging through mud, especially on riffs I wrote on my SG. So, I have it back and all is right with my world again. I ordered the DiMarzio pickup again but I didn't have time to install it because I had a show the day after I got the guitar and I actually decided to keep the stock pickups in this time.
No problems here.
Like I said above, play an SG and then play a different guitar. The difference (to me at least) is well worth the money.

Having owned numerous Gibson guitars from Les Pauls, SG's and ES-335's during the sixties, seventies, eighties and currently owning a 2010 Gibson SG Standard (and 1994 Gibson Les Paul) which I ordered, I've found this guitar the worst of the bunch. My ebony SG had numerous defects in the wood on the reverse of the guitar's body, the frets needed to be filed down badly and the bridge needed adjusting. This guitar was just not setup properly from the factory. The SG also can't stay in tune even with 10 gauge strings installed. Soundwise it's your typical SG with that chunky thick sound the guitar is known for. Played thru a Peavy Vyper amp it sounds nice but lacks the sustain of my 1994 Gibson Les Paul (non-chambered). Needless to say I play the Les Paul far more these days. Gibson quality has been going down for years and it appears it's reached a peak. There are far better guitars for less money than any Gibson. My advice syat clear of the SG and the chambered Les Pauls.

Comments about Gibson SG Standard Electric Guitar:
My first new guitar was an SG purchased somewhere around 1964. I sold it in 1971 when I started college and the rest of the band members did the same.
It has taken until now to replace my beloved Gibson SG, and I've done it in Grand Style. I bought two SG Standards, one with Humbuckers and one with P90s.
These are GREAT guitars! They play well and they sound good. They're the perfect "Live Performance" instrument.
Only downfall . . . I'm not playing my Martin Acoustics as much.

Comments about Gibson SG Standard Electric Guitar:
I had an SG standard that I purchased 25 years ago and some one broke in my house and stole it. I found I couldn't live without it so I bought another one exactly like it. Gibson quality is still exceptional. I love this guitar.

Comments about Gibson SG Standard Electric Guitar:
Very disappointed, the guitar would not stay in tune for longer than 10 seconds while playing. I have been writing and performing music for 25 yrs, this was the biggest let down ever. Gibson could have taken the time to put in decent tuning pegs for such an expensive guitar. How pathetic, I have install better quality tuning pegs.

Comments about Gibson SG Standard Electric Guitar:
The Gibson Sg Standard has been a favorite of many Iconic players, so in June I decided to take the step to finally have a Gibson and this SG did not disappoint at all. I was primarily a strat player so it took a little while getting use to the 50's rounded neck but once we clicked which was about an hour after opening the box, this will be a friend for a lifetime.
The pick ups are great, I can get pretty much any rock tones from them and some solid clean tones. I'd say the cleans would be great for blues and jazz and with the right amp and settings it could be used for country as well. In short this guitar does not disappoint and as far as quality goes I've had no issues with mine and I've been playing it everyday since June 7 so its held up thus far and I'm sure it will last a long time if properly taken care of.

Comments about Gibson SG Standard Electric Guitar:
i pick up one at my local guitar store and i fell in love with it. i pluged it in to a blackstar amp and played it for a good hour. it had an amazing sound and no buzzing of any kind. i went through 70's rock to modern pop and it could take it just fine especially with how hard i play a guitar. i would recomened this guitar to anyone i fell in love with it and i'd be amazed if you didn't love it too.

Comments about Gibson SG Standard Electric Guitar:
Marked on the website as "gently used," this looked like maybe at the worst it had been a store demo. There's not a mark on it, and this one is a rare one-piece body!
Shipping was quick and inexpensive, the guy who took my order couldn't have been nicer, and the quality of this SG Standard blew me away.
You really can't beat Musician's Friend. They go out of their way to make sure every little thing is taken care of, and their so-called "used" gear is in better shape than a lot of the new stuff you see in other stores.
The Gibson SG is an absolute "must" in my stable of guitars. I play mainly Rock and Blues, but also some Steely Dan-type jazz stuff and even some Country. The versatility of the SG is great, and it's SO light! Gibson's scale length makes it fun to play, the neck is just the right thickness and taper, and it has that Signature sound. Plus, in the studio, it really lends itself well to whatever effects you want to use. Just a great guitar, at a great price.
Comments about Gibson SG Standard Electric Guitar:
Lovely guitar. I just keep seeing Angus Young every time it is strapped on. Rips through Marshalls. Lovely lovely lovely....
Typical SG guitar. The neck set is much improved on a VOS. Stay away from those unless you want a broken neck heel... The 50's neck profile to me is perfect. Lots of meat there, but very playable. LIGHT!!! Balanced, unlike some cheaper SG models. Why is that???
Well, I got a really good one. I got it used and the owner had the fret ends rolled and the nut recut. A must for any new 'standard' Gibson product. If you are spending this kind of money on a guitar either know a luthier you can trust to set it up right or do it yourself. If you want an 'off the shelf' player buy a PRS. Enough said. Once it is 'right' it's a Rock and Roll machine. Might change the pups to Burstbucker pros. We'll see. I love this guitar. Doesn't break your back like a LP does. I'm 50 and that's a big deal. I have lots of guitars, but this is one that I will be picking up alot.
Depends. Better know what you're after and what you're doing. Gibson doesn't set up standard models very well. Some of the wood is questionable as well. The one I got I will play until it falls apart, it's that good. Stays in tune great. Retiring/selling my Gothic SG. That was a goodie as well but a bit neck heavy. The Standard is NOT. I don't get that... But as far as 'worth the money', yes. The finish, fit and overall quality on this one is just perfect. To me a guitar that stays in tune and plays in tune and effortlessly even with heavier strings is worth the extra cash. Gibson did this one right.
