A radical Gibson SG model that lives up to its name in every way!
The word zoot is jazz slang meaning extravagant style”certainly an apt description for the Gibson USA SG Zoot Suit electric guitar. The radical design starts with a body built with multiple birch wood laminate pieces (each one approximately .075" thick), each dyed with a different color then compressed and bonded together to form one solid block of wood. No paint is used. Each body is given two coats of satin nitrocellulose lacquer. The average weight of a Zoot Suit body is 5.7 lb., which is slightly heavier than normal but actually creates more balance, a solid feel, and brighter tones that prove compatible with the pickup configuration.
The Gibson SG guitar's solid body yields maximum sustain and enhanced resonance. Gibson's traditional rounded profile is hand-carved into the neck, delivering a comfortable, super-fast feel to one of the quickest necks in the industry. The headstock is carefully angled at 17 degrees, which increases pressure on the strings and helps them stay in the nut slots. An increase in string pressure also means there is no loss of string vibration between the nut and the tuners, which equals better sustain.
The Zoot SG is loaded with Gibson's eminent 496R Hot Ceramic and 500T Super Ceramic humbucking pickups, which feature clear coil forms and mounting rings to display the copper wire and ceramic magnets. The magnets in both the 496R and 500T pickups are Ceramic Five magnets manufactured at just the right temperature to ensure high intrinsic coercive force. The 496R produces incredible sustain and cutting power, adding more highs with increased definition and no muddiness at all. The 500T is one of Gibson's most powerful pickups, and contains a three ceramic magnet structure, which enables a no-holds-barred rock and roll crunch that never loses its rich combination of enhanced lows and crystal clear highs.
Each Gibson SG Zoot Suit Electric Guitar comes with a deluxe gig bag that features the classic Gibson logo silkscreened on the front, and plush lining on the inside to protect the guitar.

I've had this guitar for about 2 years. Always a stunner at gigs. Great tone and attack response. Leans to the high end tonally, very clean to about 9 and then dirty at 10. This is the 5th gibson in my collection and has replaced the rest with it's versatility. I have the black and white version and it is beginning to yellow a bit...very cool. This guitar covers Grateful dead to Steely Dan with ease. Love it to death!
I have played this guitar severall times and forced myself later to buy it. It is and extremely inexspensive guitar and is less money compared to the other gibson guitars. It comes in many different colors but as a phyco man i prefer the red and purpple one the best. The only downfall on this amazing guitar is the 2 volume 2 tone switches. Other than that it is a great buy for your buck!! :D
I've had the grey and blonde version for 2 years. Always turns heads, the neck feels great and has an excellent clean tone with volume at 9 on the guitar, which dirtys up at 10. I usually back off the treble as well,it's pretty bright. I have 5 Gibsons, this is my main guitar now. I would have liked seperate vol/tone controls for more versatility of tone, but I can deal with it. This sucker is a fun cheap little unexpected pleasure!
I bought this guitar about a month ago and I personally like it alot. I bought the black and white one. There are a couple of colors that I really liked and some I didn't. I have always liked the SG but never bought one until now. I did have to set up the intonation, but the action was great and pick ups have a nice bite.
I bought this guitar last fall and have had it my normal rotation ever since. For a SG it is quite heavy but thats birch for you and lets to the heavy tone of this guitar... pure rock n roll. The pickups are warm and snarly and lend quite well to controlable feedback if that's your thing. It is limited on controls but alot of players I know like simplicity (i'm not one of them though). The finish seems a bit rushed you'll see spots that haven't taken the dye completely and unfortunately the idea behind the Zoot Suit prohibits the silk finish you can get from solid birch but that being said it's dyed wood meaning no paint chips no cracking or checking and it's solid and will take alot of abuse without many problems.
this guitar caught my eye when looking for a signature guitar for me. i decided to try it out and it plays perfect for my style! the colors are rad and totally punk rock. once i finish my next album i what to buy as many of these as i can i got the rainbow 4 starters
This is not a good value. As opposed to just simply finishing the different colours which would be quite easy, they put together differently finished pieces of wood... with glue. The glue makes this thing weigh so much and lose sustain. It's heavy and not a good value. If you want a cool finish like that I'd just recommend finishing an SG yourself.
This offering from Gibson is definitely cool. The guitar plays great and sounds that way also. The only drawback is not having the standard 2 volume, 2 tone setup. The Zoot is heavier than most SG's but it is well constructed and balanced evenly. The 496R & 500T pickups complement the birch wood body and ebony fretboard quite well. Overall, this is a great playing and collectible guitar. The Zoot just Rocks!
