Comments about Gibson SGJ Electric Guitar:
I have owned and played quite a few Gibson guitars, and I'm a big SG fan. This SGJ is a great guitar for the price. If you have never owned a Gibson and want to give one a try then this is a great place to start. However, this SG doesn't quite live up to its more expensive counterparts. Let's start with the good: the SGJ has great wiring, and it utilizes Gibson's quick-connect technology. I was unsure about it at first, but I like it better than some of the traditional solder-and-pots wiring that we're so familiar with. The knobs are great. The volume and tone transitions are smooth and gradual, as opposed to "only noticeable from 8 to 10" knobs. The action is incredibly low with absolutely no fret-buzz. The Corian nut is awesome, and a welcomed addition to Gibson's "affordable" guitars. The neck is ultra-straight, and all the hardware (including the bridge, tuners, etc.) is just as sturdy and precise as on any Gibson. The stock pickups in the SGJ are decent, just your plain old run-of-the-mill 490s. The only problem I had with them is that you can't readily adjust the pole pieces because they're under the black plastic pickup covers (which look pretty good). The pickups are kind of dull and inarticulate under distortion, but that's how most 490 pickups are in my experience. (I replaced the stock pickups with Gibson's Tony Iommi Signature pickups and they really brought this guitar alive. It sounds absolutely fantastic.) Another thing I noticed about this guitar is an odd balance. I'm used to Gibson's regular 22-fret SGs. This one is a little top heavy (because it has 24-frets, I assume) compared to my regular SGs. It isn't really noticeable unless you've played an SG for a long time though. The finish is OK, mine is in rubbed white. Not as beautiful as a gloss nitro paint job, but it saves a lot of money. I was afraid of getting a Gibson with a maple neck at first too, but I actually like the maple. The back of the neck was a little rough out of the box so you may opt to smooth it out a little. I think it was just the grain of mine though, every piece of wood from Gibson is unique (nothing beats hand-built in the USA though!). I played an LPJ and its maple neck was smooth as silk. I loved it! The set up on the SGJ is pretty good out of the box. I prefer heavy-gauge strings so I had a little adjustment to do when I put on my preferred strings. Overall, this is a great guitar. You can't go wrong with a true, pure, hand-built in the USA Gibson guitar. With a little bit of set-up and maybe some upgraded pickups, this guitar will compete with anything. Buy one, you can't go wrong with Gibson!

Comments about Gibson SGJ Electric Guitar:
To extrapolate on my previous review, i also want to add that these pickups(at least mine) ARE 4 conductor pups.. so i dont know what that last fella is talking about.. you sure you got the 2013 model sgj? it should say 2013 printed on the back of the headstock with your serial number.. this has the new easy connect pickup system so you dont have any soldering to do if you buy those Gibson pups that fit.. like the dirty fingers and such.. pretty sure i could split the coils and what-not if i felt like doing so.. which i dont... this guitar was well worth it.

Comments about Gibson SGJ Electric Guitar:
Great guitar. Price is right, construction is right, the rubbed white finish is rad (you can see a tiny bit of wood grain through it) the bridge is hot and powerful and the neck is warm and full bodied. you can get a wide array of tones if you fidget with the tone and volume knobs. Take my word for it, these are great. Guitars in this price range that are terrible are becoming more and more ubiquitous.. THIS guitar is not one of them!! I HAVE SPOKEN.

Pros:
Nice finish if you like the brushed thing.
The Pickups are HOT! more gain than the pearly gates. Same pickups used in the Les Paul Supreme.
Price, Price Price!
Real Rosewood Neck, Mohogany body, 490/498 pickups.
Feels good in the hand if you like the 50s style neck.
Cons:
Needed setup. Strings were way too high outta the box.
Pickups are only 2 wire, no option to put a coil tap in. (this is standard on the factory installed 490/498. They do come 4 wire if you buy them afterward)
Gig bag. I hate gigbags. I opted for a gator case half the price of the gibson and it fits snug.
Overall, better than some of my imports for less money. I may have to go buy an LPJ now to match it.

Comments about Gibson SGJ Electric Guitar:
My new Gibson SGJ "cherry" beauty is everything and more than I expected for such a great price point. The 490r & 498t pups are hot and scream through my Roland Cube 40x and my 1973 Fender Twin Reverb Silverface Tube amp. I have been a Fender man all my life but always wanted a Gibson. I have shelved my original vintage 1973 Tele and 2009 Fender Strat MIM with EMG's for now while I discover the beautiful tones from my SGJ. I recommend to beginners and up, check out this new AXE from Gibson, great value and tone. Thanks to Musician's Friend for leading me away from your competition as they couldn't deliver to Canada and for delivering this beauty in just 4 days from Kansas City, MO. to Pickering, Ontario CANADA.
Still jamming in a senior's blues band at 66. Mikey
