I have never played a guitar that sounds as nice as this one throughtout the range. My wife and I went to the local guitar shop and played a Martin D-18 (which I also loved), a Taylor 414, a Hummingbird, and this Songwriter. We actually played the Songwriter first, but just kept coming back to it. It has a spruce top, rosewood back and sides, and the ebony fretboard. Not to mention the physical beauty. I can't wait to hear the tone as it ages. I do, as always, recommend playing guitars in person before just buying one. This is especially true for guitars in this price range.

If you like spending money on a name, then buy one, but be prepared to replace the nut, saddle and pay to have the neck or bridge reglued. The quality control thar should be present at a company like Gibson just isn't there. You will be doing a lot of work you shouldn't have to worry about.
The features included with the guitar are what you'd expect for a guitar in this price category.
While Gibson uses the same materials as Martin and Taylor, there seems to always be something wrong with these instruments. If you're OK with spending 2k+ for a guitar that's either not put together correctly, nut not cut properly, finish issues and such, then by all means buy one of these. This guitar is priced and by ornamentation and price competes with the Taylor 814. Decide for yourself. Compare them yourself. This guitar falls short of what it claims to give you.
How can you rate the value when all of the Songwriters I've tried have been sent back for various issues. Value? There is no value in a guitar that doesn't live up to what the company claims.

Great gigging guitar!

By Jon Mathis

Comments about Gibson Songwriter Deluxe Studio EC Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I love this guitar! I also own a Martin D-35 which I passed along to my daughter because this is now my main squeeze!
Great features, just right for the acoustic electric gigs. I have the sound controls right at my fingertips for on the fly tweaks.
Beautiful quality! Well made with a great acoustic tone!

Amazing guitar and electronics

By Charles Harvey

from Northern Colorado

Comments about Gibson Songwriter Deluxe Studio EC Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have two guitars that I play all the time, a Martin HD35 and the Gibson Songwriter Deluxe. I would give them both an overall rating of 10 but the Gibson Songwriter Deluxe is the more versatile of the two.
The guitar is a Gibson and has all of the typical Gibson character. It has some esthetic qualities without being gaudy. I like the mustache bridge and shaped pickguard. The cutaway makes the upper frets attainable. The main thing on this guitar is the electronics. The on board tuner is amazing, but the ability to shape the sound with the electronics adds a dimension that puts this guitar in a whole new level.
The craftsmanship and quality are very high. The acoustic tonal palette is broad and the guitar sounds as good with driving bluegrass as it does with fingerpicking or chordal melodies.
I bought this guitar in a local store and the price was somewhat less than the MSRP. Even then it was not cheap by any means. When considering the prices on some of the other Gibsons and other brand name guitars, the Songwriter Deluxe hods it's own in value. It might even be a bargain.

2008 Best AMG for a reason

By Gauged

from Adelaide

Comments about Gibson Songwriter Deluxe Studio EC Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I went back and forth into shop after shop and played Grand performers to Guild Fm47 even a D45V. In Australia these go from 4500 up to 15 grand for the d45V about 13grand USD. I played them all and couldnt find anything worth the money. Then one day a new shipment came in there she was acoustic with electrics and a Gibson. I played it and it was bought and paid for within thirty minutes. Look at the specs and the sound that projects with those hand carved braces. The only thing that peeved me was that the standard EC then was released and I didnt get to try that first. I havent played it yet but I may just upgrade.

Great Guitar

By Warrior MIke

from Long Island NY

Comments about Gibson Songwriter Deluxe Studio EC Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Call me a martin snob, I tried to fall in love with one of these Gibson but they just sound way to tight to me. No sustain and the sound dies out fast. I only tried one really nice one but the rest were very nasally sounding. I would try a Martin before going to this. It could be that it just needs time to open up but when I pick up a martin I know where my place is. If you have your heart set on these try one at your local guitar shop but with a price like that when in doubt buy from Musicians Friend, not one that has been played by everyone that has walked into the shop.

Amazing instrument

By Steve M.-3PPlM

Comments about Gibson Songwriter Deluxe Studio EC Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I tried Martin, Taylor, Guild , Takamine, Larivee and Gibson. This guitar was my favorite...I already own a Larivee which I really like and was tempted to buy another but I just kept going back to the Gibson. It plays, sounds and looks amazing, tunes easily and stays in tune. Its a joy to play and I find it hard to put down. I've seen a few reviews that say its too expensive but to me its worth every penny.

If you don't want to buy it, don't play it!

By slash2jazz

Comments about Gibson Songwriter Deluxe Studio EC Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I'll keep this short and sweet. Up until now I've been a Taylor only guitarist. I was wanting something different for a change so I went in to the local shop and tried everything on the wall. The Songwriter Deluxe was sitting all alone in the corner, so I picked it up last....and next thing I know I was pulling out the credit card. What a sweet sounding instrument. I still love my Taylors, but the Songwriter has earned a well-deserved place in the stable. Play it and you'll buy it.

My Ultimate Guitar

By Duke Buddy

from So.Cal.

Comments about Gibson Songwriter Deluxe Studio EC Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Wow. Picked one up on my lunchbreak and played it for 90 minutes straight. Had to have it and bought it on the spot. This guitar just sings through a good amp. A little flat w/out the amp, but I have other truly acoustic guitars to fall back on. My friends marveled at the tone and commented my playing was better. I laughed and told them it came pre-programmed with 200 songs and half of them believed it. This is a great guitar all the way around, from the electronics to the finish. I have a hard time playing anything else. Over the past 30+ years, I have played them all and this is the one.

amazing. just amazing.

Comments about Gibson Songwriter Deluxe Studio EC Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

My uncle just started playing guitar, and if you know anything about my uncle, he has to have the most expensive thing he can find. This man doesn't know anything about guitars, yet he bought an American Fat Strat, the Songwriter Deluxe EC, a Blues Junior Tube amp, and another little practice amp. Rediculous. So just this Easter, my family and I went to grandparents' and my unlce brought his Songrwiter Deluxe EC along. I played it just to show him up, and I was amazed at the tone. It had a really full-bodied sound with great lows and mids, while still having a great bright sound. Personally, I would never buy it. I mean...look at the price!

Gibson Gold

Comments about Gibson Songwriter Deluxe Studio EC Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I went to the music store to pick up the Taylor I had ordered and when I got there I played some Martins and other Taylors and then the sales guy hands me the Songwriter Deluxe EC and I was blown away. I've had my Martin D-3532 since 1992 and had never considered a Gibson. WOW. I was so lucky to find this guitar, I will have it for life. Not only does it punch out the sound, it's a beautiful instrument and a work of art.
