Comments about Gitane Cigano Series GJ-10 Gypsy Jazz Guitar:
To begin with this guitar is NOT rosewood back and sides. Its some kind of Mahogany. It does not sound remotely close to a rosewood guitar. Saga's features description and spec page are two different descriptions. It looks and sounds like a dry Mahogany guitar. The head stock is painted black not Mahogany overlay. I doubt seriously after the way Saga misrepresents the woods that the sides and back are solid. Probably laminated. They sound laminated. The headstock thickness is thicker than the wood on the neck. Would have been nice to have left the neck a bit more thicker instead of shavings on the floor. Who knows what the fretboard is it is painted black also. The nut with is 1 /34 inch. Not 1 7/8 like you see in some descriptions of this guitar. The top could be Spruce. The strings The strings could be the most expensive of the hardware's. The tuners are OK they seem to hold tune. The tail piece they claim is brass plated. It could be it as it is not magnetic. You open the box and you get the sweet smell of glue not wood.
Having said all this it is what it is. An entry level student guitar for gypsy jazz. It is put together nicely. Frets do not stick out and no sharp edges on the ends. Intonation amazingly is OK at the 12th fret. The string height at the 12 fret is not high at all. All the joints are tight same for the fretboard to the neck. The neck is a multi piece neck. I do not have a problem with that for this price guitar. It appears to have a light satin finish on it.
The sound is like a cheap guitar it won't blow you away. Too bad it was NOT rosewood.

Comments about Gitane Cigano Series GJ-10 Gypsy Jazz Guitar:
I bought this guitar thinking it was ready to play. Sorry, Charlie. This was not the case. Real bad fret buzz from the fourth to the thirteenth fret. I noticed there was a hump in the fingerboard where the neck joined the body and the neck had a slight twist to it. I had gigs coming up so I didn't have time to send it back. I've still got it, and have straightened the neck out somewhat. I've got to remove the last ten or twelve frets and take out the fingerboard hump. Perhaps then I can play the guitar without all the fret buzz. The volume and tone are fine, and if you get one without a twisted neck or a giant hump in the fingerboard you'll have a nice sounding gypsy jazz guitar. I'm not used to the position dot spacing, so I have replaced the pearl dots with ebony ones which make it look like a blank fingerboard. I have also reset the side position dots. Also I cut a soundport in the upper side, and made a new ebony bridge. This of course voids any warranty, but being a repairperson I plan to hang on to this guitar for my professional gigs if I can eliminate the bad fret buzz. Hopefully, the higher priced gypsy guitars don't have these problems.

Comments about Gitane Cigano Series GJ-10 Gypsy Jazz Guitar:
O.K., not being around this sort of music, or other musicians of the Gypsy Jazz sort I order this for my son thinking it was strung nylon like a classical (somebody at M.F. misinformed me...). The guitar shows up strung with silk/steel 10s,I imediately order a return.I then spent 5 minutes with it, called back and canceled the return. The top on this guitar is really live- takes no time to loosen up. The guitar is loud, and has that signature tone..The long scale is kind of weird, but it's a joy to play!! I've been playing guitar for about 50 years. It's been my experience that my most beloved guitars have been cheap, modest instruments like this one that play really well. I recently lost a folk acoustic that was my favorite,,, this will be it's replacement!!
