Have played a martin d18 for years and playing everything but jazz let alone "gypsy jazz".Now I am into beginning a new style. It a couple days to get used to the diff. tone, strings, feel, and dot inlays. No dot on the ninth fret,it's on the tenth.Subtle I know but it is something to get used to.That being said.I have not touched my martin or my les paul.I have a new best friend and i love it.
I recently bought the DG-300 John Jorgenson, and couldn't be happier! I now own three Gitanes, the D-500, DG-250M, and now this baby, and I love them all. The action and intonation are perfect straight from the factory, no additional setup required. And the looks, sound and playability...well, you have to play one to believe it. Normally, these guitars come with crappy stock strings, but this one comes with GHS gypsy jazz strings that provide a beautiful well-rounded tone. If you're going to buy a gypsy jazz axe, and don't want to spend thousands on other brands, this axe is the one to get! You will not regret it!
I have owned and played it now for several months. It is simply the best accustic that I have owned and played in the 40 some years that I've been at it. Lows, mids, and highs are all there and very well ballanced too. My DG-300 had three workmaship issues that I had to really look for. I have no other issues with the quality or workmanship. I highly recomend it for Jazz and Blues. I can't speak to Country, Blue Grass, or any other style of music.
I've been listening to Django for years and always wanted a Selmer copy. This guitar is simply the best bang for the buck around. Quality, fit and finish are amazing. But what really sold me on this model is the interior finish which, hopefully, in the dry CO air will give some added protection. The only bad points are that the case isn't made for this guitar so there's some slop in the fit, and it doesn't come with gypsy, silver-wound strings that have to be specially ordered. Change the strings and get a Wegen gypsy pick immediately!
