The ASAT Classic Custom features an extra-fat MFD (Magnetic Field Design) neck pickup. The Swamp Ash body with beautiful Clear Orange finish also includes a Rear Body Contour and Natural Wood Binding. Hard Rock Maple neck with Maple fingerboard. Schaller non-locking tuners. 3-position pickup selector, volume, and tone controls.
The patented Magnetic Field Design® neck pickup uses a ceramic bar magnet installed underneath each coil, with soft iron adjustable pole pieces to transfer the magnetic field to the surface of the pickup. By contrast, traditional Alnico type pickups, such as used in the Legacy and George Fullerton models, use nonadjustable Alnico pole pieces leaving the only adjustment being pickup height. The Magnetic Field Design has this adjustment, but further offers individual adjustment of each pole piece, letting the player effectively adjust the output of each string on each pickup. Magnetic Field Design (MFD) yield about twice the output per wind, making the pickup quieter while allowing a greater overall output. The sound of Magnetic Field pickups is slightly warmer with a broader frequency response.
One major Nashville session guitarist remarked that G&L Magnetic Field single-coil pickups sounded as balanced and sweet as his favorite old vintage Alnico equipped axe. The difference is that the MFD pickups sound that good right into his amp without all the EQ tweaking of his mixing console that made his other guitar sound so good. When he ran his G&L though his studio rig, he was truly amazed at the rich and warm, yet clear and sparkly sound.

this guitar is far better than anything produced by fender. my guitar has the most beautiful green finish i had ever seen on a guitar. it sounds great. if someone is concidering buying a telecaster for 1000-1500$ it would be foolish not to buy a G&L. this guitar sounds much better than the american deluxe teles and for a lower price.

This is a really wonderful guitar! Mine is Black with blac pickguard and natural wood binding and maple neck and fingerboard: this is the most powerful Tele style guitar that I've ever played. The bridge pick up is a killer and the neck pickup is rich , full and warm but not muddy. I owe an Asat Special and an Asat Classic too: compared with those other two G.& L. Asats the Classic Custom as the same great pick up in the bridge position than the Classic has but the neck pick up is much better than the one that equipped the Classic: it is much powerfull and enables the player to use this guitar to play great rock blues lead parts. If we compare with the Special this guitar is more agressive and rocky: the Special is more sparkly and clean and fits better for country music or rhythm work.The neck on my guitar is a type 1# with 12' radius fingerboard and is absolutely perfect! I can say that it is almost fast and comfortable like the neck of my Les Paul Standard. Finish, hardware, controls and look are excellent: I repeat, really a great guitar!
