OVERVIEW

A familiar silhouette with distinctive-looking and great-sounding pickups.

The G&L Comanche is Leo's final word on the traditional double-cutaway bolt-on axe. Fact is, the first thing you'll notice about the Comanche is the distinctive shape of the Magnetic Field Design Z-Coil pickups designed by Leo Fender himself. These pickups deliver a bright and sparkly top end while offering a robust bottom end, all without any 60-cycle hum.

You'll find plenty of power in the Z-coil pickups, but what's surprising is how glassy and detailed they become as you roll back the volume and bass controls, the latter a part of the Comanche's PTB (Passive Treble and Bass) system. What's more, the Comanche includes a mini-toggle expander switch to allow neck+bridge or all three pickups together. In a pinch, the neck+bridge combo does a convincing faux ASAT Special.

Making the most of this delicious combo is Leo's Dual-Fulcrum vibrato, a work of engineering art which allows bending up or down with unsurpassed stability, while offering a silky feel through its beefy aluminum vibrato arm.

Comments about G&L Comanche Electric Guitar:

If you are turned off by the "hook" on the headstock or the unusual shape of the pickups, go buy something that looks like a Fender Strat.
If you are looking for amazing build quality, new/different and broad range of tonal possibilities, unique voice of the guitar, high output pickups that will push a good tube amp into overdrive, quiet pickups/no hum, get a usa-made Comanche.
I've had mine since December 2015 and I love it. It is fine for practice in the basement, sounds as good as anything, but where it really shines is playing a gig, at gig volume levels, with an 8 piece band, through a good amp, it is simply amazing. 7 pickup combinations, master treble and bass controls on all pup combinations, very responsive/interactive controls, and complex tones that I've never gotten out of 10 other guitars I've gigged with. People come up to me after the gig and say, wow, what is that and how are you getting those sounds? And, it cuts through the mix with a good amp. These are not thin, anemic pup's where the audience wishes they could hear your solo. They simply kick rump. This is not your Father's Strat. If you want vintage strat tone get a Strat. If you want better than that, get a Legacy. If you want to blaze new trails with your own tone, try a Comanche. You will not be dissatisfied.

Comments about G&L Comanche Electric Guitar:

Well this is perhaps one of the most, if not the most versatile electric guitar on the market right now. I cannot stress enough how clear the pickups on this guitar sound, all the while retaining so much power in the bottom end. You can have chimey clean highs, and incredible low end.

The pickup selection is much simpler than it appears. My favourite uses both back and front pickups like a tele. With that in mind, let me remind you, this is NOT a Fender, this is a G&L. Yes it was designed by Leo, but its not the vintage instrument that is what we now call a Fender. If you want to be stuck in the past... well lets face it, buy a legacy over a fender, they still sound better and you can get that vintage sound so much more easily; it isn't trying to be that iconic vintage instrument, it is much more. Albeit it can sound like a vintage strat, but you have to dial it in. G&L aren't baby sitter instruments, they want you to actually play around with the tone knobs. Don't dare try to dime everything on the guitar and say "hey that's it". If that's what you want, this isn't the guitar for you. If you're the kind of person that says, "what if?" then this is the one for you. The Comanche will growl, it'll whisper, it will serenade you, but it won't read you a bedtime story. You'll have to play around selecting pickups and dialing the tone knobs; and when you do, you will be infinitely rewarded.

Hard rock, country, pop, funk, Latin, it will do it all, and yes even metal. The z-coils are where its at, and I don't think I'll ever look back. I considered buying a fender again, but then... i realized... i probably had a fever. Seriously tho, if you want "that" vintage tone.... look for the "that" guitar that made "that" vintage sound. Its that simple. But honestly, this can get you the vintage strat tone... but it'll also bring with it an arsenal of other tones. Feel and quality rival fender too. and at lower costs. contact a dealer to order one spec'd as you want. Go for it!
