The G&L Legacy Blonde is IT, friends.
I've owned one other USA Legacy and played at least a dozen more, but this one is the dream date: Toneful, easy to play, a real looker. The see through finish is delicious and, trust me, you want the gun oil tinted neck. It makes the others look pale & sickly.
The PTB system allows for maximum verstility.
Dual fulcrum vibrato is solid and guitar stays in tune
My *only* complaint is that the jumbo frets are a bit tall, but even this is easily overlooked in light of the guitar's other significant attributes. Mine is a 2008 and weighs 7 lbs, 15 oz.
In short: If you are considering one, buy it. It may be the holy grail you've been looking for in a Strat-style guitar.

I had high expectations for this guitar and maybe they were just too high but I returned it. The guitar was built well, had a good feel, good pickups but all things considered, I think it's overrated for the price. It played and sounded comparable to my American Deluxe Strat but the Fender won in overall looks, feel and features.

The Breakdown:

G&L Neck is nice but I didn't like the lacquer on the fretboard. Shape is similar to the C shape of the Strat.

The white color of the G&L was ugly to my eyes. It was a thin finish to allow the ash grain to show through and this made the guitar look white-washed. I tried to like it by placing it next to my strat and it just wasn't happening. Knowing that the two guitars cost about the same, when sitting next to the Deluxe, it looled like a cheap knock-off.

One other thing about the guitar was the weight. The ash makes it a heavy guitar and although I appreciate the heavier Les Paul, I realized I don't like heavy in a Strat syle axe.

Overall, I can't fault the guitar for sound or playability. If I didn't already own a Strat, maybe I would have seen things slightly different but the whole package just didn't work for me... just made me appreciate my Fender that much more.

G&L legacy

By scott jansen

Comments about G&L Legacy Electric Guitar with Tinted Maple Neck:

It is the blonde Finish with tinted maple neck. Some of the reviews for this guitar are not for this actual guitar, but of Legacys in general. This is for the one being sold here. First of all the price. I was looking to get a Legacy from a local guitar shop. When we added things up, like a premium finish and color, deluxe case, fancy pick guard, graphite nut, locking tuners and tinted maple neck it got to be up higher than this price. Maybe more with tax. The one offered here has a premium finish included, swamp ash and looks just awesome in person. You now get a deluxe g&g vintage case included that fits the guitar tight. The pick guard is the 3 ply, not the single, so that's a plus. No graphite nut but a bone one.No locking tuners but a great Schaller system. So if you can sacrifice a few things, this guitar is a steal. Better features than a standard Legacy. You get some nice upgrades included like the finish, color, pick guard, abalone dot inlay and deluxe case. This thing is beautiful . I was really impressed. It still is custom built like all G&Ls are. It comes with all the paper work hand signed with the specs of the guitar, a C.O.A signed by Mrs Fender, and all the hardware. Now the best part is, if it's in stock, you will have a custom made, premium Legacy guitar in as little as 5 days! Not the 6 to 8 week wait for a guitar shop to order one for you. Sure ,if you want a G&L totally custom you will pay and wait more and longer. But for what you get here it is a gorgeous handmade, custom built guitar. I'm not going to review the sound or specs , you can get that on YouTube and here, but just a review of what musicians fried is selling, and it impressive. Plus, with the promos they have all the time , you can get this guitar for a steal. Highly recommended .

Comments about G&L Legacy Electric Guitar with Tinted Maple Neck:

After many years of playing a Gibson Les Paul Standard, and an old parker Nightfly, I started to fall in love with the music from groups like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jimi Hendrix, Steve Ray Vaughn, and Sublime etc. I was missing the Stratocaster sound. I started to research which guitars are the best deal because I typically am a very picky person when it comes to instruments. I went to 2 local music shops and played every Fender American Standard that I could get my hands on. I would have been pretty satisified with most of the ones that I played but then I played a Used G & L Legacy at Guitar Center. The G & L felt like the guitar for me. The neck is so nice, I actually prefer it over my Parker Nightfly which are known for their awesome playability. I don't think that there is a better neck out there right now truely. The action is fast but the neck has a bit of thickness to it which feels great. Something about the frets makes pulloffs and hammer ons more prounounced and effortless. I find myself playing difficult runs easier on this neck than my other guitars. The Fit and finish is flawless (Mines Tobacco Sunburst)and the guitar screams quality. The price on these guitars are truely a bargain for what you are getting so if you are on the fence and you want Strat like tone with a bit more flexibility and a better playing neck, pull the trigger and i'm willing to bet you will be happy. Guitars that I payed about twice as much for are being neglected now. As a matter of fact I am thinking of selling some of my other stuff and buying a humbucker equipped G & L. The dual Fulcrum Tremelo seems very quality and I have had no tuning issues yet. The pickups can sound vintage Strat like but are more flexible with the tone controls. You can get thin to fat tone by tweaking the tones controls and I usually use the guitar treble tone at about 8 with the bass at about 6. The tone controls seem more useful than a strat which I usually just set on 10 and forget.

Comments about G&L Legacy Electric Guitar with Tinted Maple Neck:

This is the 3rd G&L I've owned. I'm a pro with 40 years experience. I play through a Fender reissue Blue Deluxe. (PERFECT tone!). I've owned Strats, SG's, 335's, Ricks, Gretch, Tele's you name it.... So, this G&L Legacy is the instrument you want if you're looking for a strat sound, but QUALITY, USA, HANDMADE craftsmanship. It looks great, is made out of quality components, and sounds superb. I did have some issues "out of the box". The intonation was off and so I replaced the strings. It was still off, and had to remove some of the bridge springs on the low E through G. Cut them in half on the B&G. It's almost like the bridge was set a quarter inch to close to the neck or something? Anyway, that gave me "room" to set the intonation perfectly. I added some 'roller tree' string guides. I don't know why G&L only had one roller guide for the E&B. I used the stock pickups for a couple months. They sounded great, but were just too noisy with the 1,3,5 positions. Couldn't stand it no more.... I had to swap them out for noiseless Fender Solarium Cobalt pickups. Now it's a 'perfect instrument'! So, no noise, even greater tone. I was really impressed with the pickup upgrade. The Fender 'quack' is allot more pronounced on the 1,2 pickup position. I modified the bass control also, to be a "Controlled Bridge" volume control, giving me a nice 1,3 and 1,2,3 pickup combo. (Don't know why G&L didn't think of this!?!" So now, everything is fine tuned and rockin'. I personally found the bsss roll-off tone control useless. I never used it anyway. G&L is the 'next generation Fender', designed and manufactured by the man himself, Leo Fender! So try and understand... it's "where you wanna be with a Fender Strat"! I will use this baby till' I die. If it gets damaged or stolen, I'll buy another one! I've got the cream white with the maple neck. Beautiful. Feel free to e-mail me if you want more info. Best Regards, SADHU.

Comments about G&L Legacy Electric Guitar with Tinted Maple Neck:

Bought my Legacy and had never played one before. I researched them a lot on the web, and this was the first guitar I bought without playing it. I am glad I did. These guitars are so well made they are incredible. I just needed some light action adjustments, move the pickups a little and is screams. Its playability is out of this world and easily rivals the PRS I have. Great guitar

Comments about G&L Legacy Electric Guitar with Tinted Maple Neck:

Extremely well built. Screams quality. Nice setup right out of the box. Neck not as "yellow" as the pic advertised here looks. All the classic vintage tones can be had from this guitar. The selling point for me was the pick-ups. As close to a vintage '57 or '58 Strat as you can get! Sounds heavenly played through my '65 Deluxe Reverb amp. You'd have to pay 4-5K for a Fender Custom Shop model to get this quality and tone. This is an unbelievable deal being offered by MF!!! My best advice is if you're considering a vintage Strat, don't pass this up! I can't say enough about this guitar. I've been playing guitar for almost 50 years now. Owned an played them all. For vintage Strat tones, this is the one. Make no mistake about, Leo's last version of his classic Stratocaster! And his BEST!

Comments about G&L Legacy Electric Guitar with Tinted Maple Neck:

I have collected & played G&L's for the past 12 years. Have owned models built every year since Leo started the company in 1980 & toured the factory 3 times. There are many fine guitars in there from Leo and post-Leo era, but they have all been good players with good tone. The Legacys & ASATs are still my favorites. And the ones built since around 2000 have been the best built of them all, thanks to CNC, pleked fretwork, the finest materials, and strong adherence to Leo's high standards. Guitars, like cars or any personal item, will always produce owners who truly believe theirs is the best made. That's fine, but you just won't find a G&L player who has regrets. There are many great guitars out there, and this brand is top tier at all price points.

A WELL BUILT STRAT! I have about 7 Fender strats all types ( Strat Plus. American Deluxes limited editions ect.) I was really surprized with this one you can't put it down plays really nice. All can say is your getting a better than custom built strat for the price ( maybe less than with the sales they are offering) of an American Stantard!
A quality built axe just like in the olden days with G&L all there guitar are custom
A great price thanks to Musician's Friend I did months of reshearch they had the best price
