Many impressive reviews here already, and for good reason, the ASAT Classic Ash performs the way most serious Telecaster player would expect! It is truly a bang for the buck offering from G & L, very hard to find fault with this model, starting with the Ash vibe, that body has been a fav forever, when you see it, strap it on and plug in, then you really understand why. Are there better guitar values at the price point? Very doubtful, yes there are many good Telecaster types to choose, it is a very touch and competitive price range. Thing is, you truly get the twang, the bite, the cheek from the ASAT. The woods are first rate as mentioned above, the weight feels just right, the pickups have a good balance from neck to bridge, all positions render the classic Tele voice, it is amazing the variety of useable tones this guitar produces. The neck is warm and sweet with nice clarity, the mid position noise cancels and is plucky just the way many players want it; then the bridge, wow, one of the best we have heard at any price point, lotsa presence and bite with a good bottom. A note here: bottom end is also amplifier determined, sometimes these reviews mislead, a player says the guitar is too bright, thin, etc.; then he says he plays 9-42 strings, plugs into a 20 watt solid state amp with a digital board and finally thru a 10" speaker; Guys, that combo is just not gonna work well with a Telecaster voiced guitar! Of course tube amps are ideal, and a single 12" speaker or dual 10's really make the cut, and more is better if you have the budget! The ASAT we auditioned was played thru a 100 watt tube head with a 4x12 cab, NO digital EFX, on board tube overdrive only, and an MXR Carbon Copy, that combination really got us going. Our Tribute smacked the room wall to wall, no substitute for good amplification; if there were any electronic issues they would have been revealed in that setup! What really impressed was the chunk and grind the ASAT can deliver when needed--oh yeah

Product overview and features state that this guitar has MFD pickups in the neck and bridge positions.
Purchased this guitar and the pickups are not MFDs.
Neck is smooth and body finish is nice. Body is made from three pieces of wood and there is a 1/16 inch gap between the neck and neck pocket on one side. Kind of disappointing.
Neck is satin finish and not glossy as stated in description. Considering returning this product due to gap in neck pocket and issue with pickups. MF needs to update the product overview and features to match the actual product.

Comments about G&L Limited Edition Tribute ASAT Classic Ash Body Electric Guitar:

Bought this guitar about a month ago. Boy, what a mistake. When it arrived, I could not get the guitar to stay in tune long enough for a proper setup. I replaced the factory tuners and problem solved. I got the intonation perfect, strummed a chord, and assaulted my ears with a horrid sound. Something was horribly wrong. This guitar will not play a single chord anywhere on the neck without a massive amount of standing waves. I called MF and G&L and neither one will do a thing about it because I 'modified' the guitar changing the tuners. By that logic, you void your warranty by adjusting the saddles. The warranty says they will not cover modifications, not guitars that have been modified. The modified tuners are not the cause of the problem. After being stuck with no help, and a useless guitar, I took it to a Fender authorized luthier. He could not get anywhere with it, at least not without a ton of cash. The neck is a wreck. The nut isn't square to the frets, the frets are off for the scale it's setup for, and some of them are even angled as well. I've owned dozens of guitars, and this is without a doubt the only one I've had a problem like this on. The person I finally got in touch with at G&L was nice enough to email me back, where he felt it necessary to insult my intelligence and that of my luthier. Send me a correct neck and everything would be fine, but no. Never buying G&L again. I would give it no stars if I knew how.

Comments about G&L Limited Edition Tribute ASAT Classic Ash Body Electric Guitar:

This is my fifth G&L guitar. I have a USA ASAT Bluesboy, USA Legacy, USA Legacy HSS, and ASAT Tribute Carved Top. The great sale price of this guitar enticed me to buy it to see if I liked the the G&L ASAT dual single coil pickup configuration before committing to another USA G&L price tag.

I have about 40 hours on this guitar and I have nothing bad to say about this guitar. If they are all built like mine; I don't see how anyone can say anything bad about this guitar. This guitar has equally as good a finish as my USA natural lacquer finish Legacy. I'm not sure I would call the neck a gloss. It seems more like a natural well sanded finish without lacquer, or maybe one thin coat of sealer? which is quite all right with me, I love the look and feel as is but also gives me the liberty to finish the way I want it. I think the pickups may vary from the standard Tribute ASAT in that they are MFD design but not made in Fullerton, CA. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Regardless, without pedals they sound great through my original '68 Fender Princeton Reverb amp. My Xotic AC and RC boosters really bring out some great tones and sustain this has to offer. The neck is solid, the neck pocket is spot on, the frets are properly dressed. The tuners and electronics are solid and the knobs are what I would expect in this price range. I don't consider setup when rating a guitar because all brand new guitars should be professionally setup; especially after traveling so far and through so many different climates, but mine was more than satisfactory. Without manufacture defect, I don't see how any level of musician who likes a Tele style guit could be disappointed buy this guitar. Very satisfied with my purchase all the way around.

Comments about G&L Limited Edition Tribute ASAT Classic Ash Body Electric Guitar:

I bought this as blemished so the price was incredible. I've found G&L to be of good quality and this one was no exception. The only problem was the back of neck seems a little unfinished. A little sanding will probably help that. Otherwise I am very happy. Also, unlike my usual MF experience, this one was playable right out of the box.

Comments about G&L Limited Edition Tribute ASAT Classic Ash Body Electric Guitar:

The body of the guitar looks great and is built solid. Pickups work fine and switch seems solid.Volume and tone knobs work smooth. The neck was described as a satin finish but is has very little finish, none in my opinion. Frets are rough, not crowned or polished, but the fret edges are not sharp they are smooth and do not snag your hand when sliding up or down the neck. The pick guard had wood shavings under the edge causing a space in between the body and the pickguard, I took off the pick guard and cleaned off the wood shavings and it fits fine now.The neck pickup was not lined up with the pick guard causing it to tilt towards the neck a bit, I shaved off a bit and it is fine now. When bending strings on certain frets you can feel the rough spots in the frets. Intonation was off on the B string all the other strings were fine. Action is very low compared to what I am used to, but very little string buzz. Sounds good, guitar seems to resonate nicely. The neck is 9.5 inch radius and frets a little easier with chords, feels comfortable to me. The bad part is the unfinished frets and neck, that makes it hard to grab a string and bend. Does not feel good when sliding up the neck, but the more I play it the better it gets. I thought about sending this back, but I think this baby just needs broke in. It stays in tune as well as any guitar I have owned with regular tuners. I will likely change the pickups later, rout it out for a nashville set up, and add locking tuners. I bought this guitar knowing that it would not be perfect out of the box, but I like to work on guitars and wanted a project. You may not, so if you expect this guitar to be 100% out of the box you may want to look elsewhere. Ahh I should have paid 800 for a Fender MIM Nashville! I didn't like the finish choices and I wouldn't have as much fun as doing it myself. I am only recommending this to a friend that wants a solid tele for a project.

I own a USA G&L Legacy and the quality, sound and looks of the ASAT are comparable. I do a lot of recording and needed a tele style guitar. I chose G&L because I like them better than Fender. I will buy another G&L Tribute in the near future. The ASAT is a very clean sounding guitar with a lot of tonal variations.

It plays as well as my US made G&Ls, Fenders, and PRS and has wonderful sustain. An amazing guitar for this price.

Comments about G&L Limited Edition Tribute ASAT Classic Ash Body Electric Guitar:

My first tele style body. My go to guitar has always been a strat so I didn't want to spend a ton of money on a new body style and not like it. Never owned a G&L either so took a chance on it bc they get some pretty good reviews. Took it out of the box and did a visual inspection. Mine is a two piece ash body easy to see especially due to the natural finish. Neck is unfinished and smooth. Frets are jumbo and had no sharp edges. Neck joint was tight and all hardware is secure and installed properly. Sound check revealed two well matched neck and bridge pickups with lots of punch. Factory setup action is low with no fret buzz. Some of the frets do need some light polishing which is noticeable on note bends. Pots are smooth and even but have a quick drop off.Tuners are smooth and the synthetic nut holds tune well without slippage. Overall impression, this is a solid well made guitar especially for the price point.
