An axe with advanced electronics, great looks, and super playability.

The Tribute S-500 Electric Guitar is fitted with 3 G&L Magnetic Field Design single-coil pickups. Magnetic Field Design pickups have ceramic magnets and have fewer winds than normal single-coil pickups, resulting in a less noisy pickup. A push/pull pot enables additional pickup combinations of neck and bridge or all 3 pickups together. The PTB (passive treble/bass) system allows treble and bass frequencies to be cut separately and unlike traditional arrangements, controls are effective on all pickups. Other features of the G&L S-500 Guitar include a swamp ash body with a bolt-on maple neck, rosewood fretboard, and a G&L designed Dual-Fulcrum tremolo system.

    Features
    • Pickups: 3 Fullerton-made G&L Magnetic Field Design single-coil pickups

    Truly Special

    By George Kelly

    from NYC area

Comments about G&L S-500 Electric Guitar:

At this price, this guitar wiil be all that you want, if you want a strat-type instrument. Beautiful, toneful, incredibly playable, and built like a tank. I will be gigging with this, and yes, if some stooge stole it, I would purchase it again, but not after tracking he or she down like a hellhound and making a nasty point. You get 45 days for a test-drive...check it out.
MFD pickups, every pickup combination you ever wanted, and the fantastic PTB system. P'ups are genuine G&L Fullerton made, pots have a very smooth action and linear taper, and the whole set-up just sounds great. You can go from vintage to aggressive, and everywhere in between. The neck radius is perfect for me, but the F-fanboys may need a little time with a different scale. I do not have large hands, just long fingers, and Strat necks / boards have always seemed a little too confining for me. The G&L design is perfect - try it out and see where your fingers will go with a little room. Trust me.
I just received the S-500 in Natural Gloss with a rosewood board. The picture does not do this guitar justice. After un-boxing this beauty (and there was more packing than I have ever seen!), I had to just keep turning it over and over, and I could acutally see myself smiling in the natural finish. Beautiful, 2-piece Swamp Ash, flawless finish, and quite a bit of heft to it, as would be expected with genuine S.A. Perfect neck / body pocket work, neck straight as an arrow, and after tuning it and checking the intonation with my trusty Strobo-tuner...perfect! No kidding! I'm a bit anal about intonation, and I ran through the protocol again, checking each string against 4 different benchmarks and it was perfect. Tuners are smooth and have good resistence - hold an excellent tune after finally stretching the strings - takes a few minutes with a floating trem. Neck perfect, frets perfect, rosewood not dry at all. After inspecting all the shipping lables (world of info there), it shows that the guitar was shipped from BBE in Fullerton to MF 11/28/2011. Nice to know that the guitar was really inspected by G&L, set-up, and did not sit around a warehouse for too long.
I bought the S500 on a whim, a kind of happy birthday / Christmas present to me. I also own a USA Legacy, custom built in 1994, and a PRS McCarty, again, custom ordered in 1997. I'm no stranger to high-end instruments, and while I'm not going to say my new S500 is better than its stable-mates,MF was offering last week. C'mon, Jesse James at least used a gun, and I felt just a little guilty. I did get over it.

    Leo's guitar all grown up

    By Farmdog-LqGsj

    from Cincinnati, OH

Comments about G&L S-500 Electric Guitar:

There isn't much more to say. This is Leo Fender's stratocaster after Leo grew up and applied his innovative techniques and improvements to his original design. CBS increased mass production and made few improvements if any to the Fender strat over the last 30+ years. When Leo and George started G&L, they truly improved on the strat design and began making a superior product. G&L guitars are one of the industry's best kept secrets. If you want to be just another like the masses, buy a Fender....but if you really want the best strat your money can buy and you want to stand out as a trend setter and not just another follower, buy a G&L. I have been playing electric guitar for over 30 years and have owned all the major brands including an American Fender strat. The G&L S-500 blows the Fender strats out of the water.
The magnetic field pickups and advanced tone system make this guitar's tonal posibilities so much more versatile than a Fender strat.
The build quality is incredible. Although the wood components of this guitar are manufactured in Indonesia, it still rivals any American made guitar I have played. All electronic components are made and assembled here in the states. The clear gloss finish looks so much nicer in person than it does in the pictures online. This is an extremely well-made guitar.
You cannot beat the quality and versatility at this price. This guitar easily rivals any American made stratocaster, but has more tonal versatility with the advanced tone system and additional pickup selector options. For $150 more than a basic Mexican made strat, you can have a guitar worth easily twice as much.

Probably will never buy a Fender again...

    By Joseph Magnant

    from Boston, MA

Comments about G&L S-500 Electric Guitar:

Somebody steals it and I'll be buying one the next day.
The tone controls are what every guitar should have. EVERY guitar. "Once your go G&L, other guitars to you, will never sell." You heard it hear first folks.
Upon arrival, action was a little high for my taste, but lowered it a little and dropped the tremolo... perfect! Gigs great, stays in tune without need for tuner upgrade. The guitar is heavy, which I like, it's very solid. And the sound? Compared it to an American Deluxe and preferred the G&L (so did the owner of the Deluxe!) for a lot of $$$ less.
Best value on the market for strats.

    Great guitar

    By Mr. Fabio

    from Roma , Italy

Comments about G&L S-500 Electric Guitar:

I bought an Indonesian Tribute with some perplexity: I was looking for an American made S 500 but I found this one at a very good price.I playied the guitar at the shop and it seems to sound very well. I brought the s 500 home, plug it in my Crate V 5012 and I remained surprise how good it sounds! I own two G.& L. Asats USA and a Legacy USA but I must say that I can't hear any difference; this Tribute sounds great! The biggest difference from the USA models is the neck, that has a 9,5' radius instead 12'like the american ones, but it is anyway comfortable. In my opinion the guitar has an excellent quality for the price and is much better than any Fender American Standard Strat.Even the ash body with the maple fingerboard gives an excellent tone.

    Love it

    By RCG1971

Comments about G&L S-500 Electric Guitar:

I found a used Tribute S-500 at a good price. Love the look and feel and the sound - especially the sound. Feels like an overall better guitar than a Fender at the same price. Took me a while to find out that the Tribute is not American made but that the electronics are the same as the American made versions. Even with that said it's still a nice guitar and I'm looking forward to playing it for many years.

Can't beat it with even more expensive guitars

    By S-500 dreamer

    from Corpus Christi, Texas

Comments about G&L S-500 Electric Guitar:

I have been wondering back and forth across town with the full intension of buying an American strat with Texas pickups, when I stumbled in and a dealer introduced me to the S-500 AMERICAN made honey blond with tortise shell pickguard and rosewood fretboard. I went back and fourth playing both guitars and could not put the S-500 down. This guitar plays sweeeet practically by itself. The action is fast and no backfeed and unwanted screeming from the pickups. One solid guitar and it is cheaper than a American strat. If I buy another guitar it will be another S-500 you can't go wrong.
