OVERVIEW

Deluxe appointments; diminutive price.

Tribute guitars are made to G&L design specs and incorporate the real US-made pickups to get authentic G&L sound. The S-500 Premium features 3 G&L US-made Magnetic Field Design pickups, a swamp ash body, hard rock-maple neck with rosewood or maple fingerboard, G&L-designed Dual-Fulcrum vibrato, and 18:1 sealed-back tuners. Controls include 5-way selector with mini-toggle switch enabling additional pickup combinations of neck + bridge or all 3 pickups together, volume, and PTB (passive treble and bass) system.

The sound of the patented Magnetic Field Design pickup is slightly warmer than a standard alnico pickup, and has a broader frequency response. By installing a ceramic bar magnet underneath each coil, these pickups yield about twice the output per wind, making the pickup quieter while allowing a greater overall output. The soft iron adjustable pole pieces transfer the magnetic field to the surface of the pickup faithfully and allow for much more versatility.

Includes deluxe gig bag.

Wow! That's all I have to say about some of the bad reviews on this guitar. There are many features on this chunk of wood. I have had mine about a year now and yes the pots are a little noisy and there was a little fret buzz on the low E and A strings(which have since been remedied with a few minor adjustments). Other than that, it's nice playing and sounding guitar. It's also beautifully finished. I just play as a hobby and I enjoy playing this one. I have six others to choose from and this one doesn't sit around collecting dust. I just don't understand the bad reviews I've seen. I was gonna give it all 10's just to boost the rating...but that would be as bad as giving it all 1's. The G&L version is more than three times the cost of this one. For the money this is not a bad guitar.

I bought this guitar 5/12/06. I was originally looking for a Deluxe Strat, which has basically the same features, but ended up with my S-500. The volume & bass cut pots are noisy, but no more that the pots on my '03 Clapton Strat. Don't think anyone will notice live, but if you use a direct line to record the pots, could be a problem. That said, I'm happy and I'd buy it again.

Bought my first Fender in 1962 and have owned hundreds of guitars since - almost every brand, some costing well over $5,000. This guitar is as reliable and impressive as most of them. It is, by FAR, the most guitar for the money I've ever seen.

Like a rock after setup

Beautiful finish and loads of tones. The qaulity complaint I had was due to scratchy pots I had replaced and a not so great factory setup.

A Great Value

Purchased this Guitar in December of 03 in a beautifull Cherryburst. Finish was great, setup was good and it holds tune reasonably well. I played it with a Behringer Vampire and it sounded great. My only complaint is the pots, they get dirty easily and break up. Overall a great value for the money.

Strat and then some!

By Ruff-N-Redy

from San Francisco

To the point, great axe, everything from top to bottom is a 10 with the exception of the noisy pots you've read about. Outside of that this guitar abosolutely ROCKS! Looks like the pots are a guitar to guitar problem so hook it up and crank it up before you buy although it's a very easy fix. Blows a standard strat away!

I'd pay much more for this guitar

By Karlt

from South Jersey

I have a decent amount of experience with guitars, I've owned everthing from a mexican strat to a SRV stat. This guitar is both sexy looking as it is sexy sounding. It came completely ready to go. No running to the pro shop to have the action fixed or anything. The electronics don't have any noise in them at all.

It's a deal

By Anonymous

What a great deal. This baby is like getting an american strat for half price... It's one solid axe that makes the mexican strat fell like a fisher price toy. If you want a strat under $1k, try out an S-500.

A good all-around guitar

I would recommend the S-500 to anyone. It is a very versatile guitar. I especially like the sweet, mellow sound of the mid/neck pickup for swing, jazz, and blues.

Amazingness

I first picked this up at my guitar studio. I plugged it in to a nearby Marshall on a clean channel. The clean sound was like your average Strat, but hit the Overdrive and that's where this puppy truly shines. I know Iron Maiden did well with a plain Strat through Marshalls, but this, with distortion, rivaled my ESP EC-400, which has two EMG pickups. The neck felt very comfortable in my hands; thin and sleek without being too thin and sleek. In short, imagine your standard Fender Stratocaster, but more shred/metal-oriented. Overall, it is very capable of playing anything you want. From say, Eric Clapton to Anthrax.

Finest guitar leo ever designed

By tom brown

from newington ct

First off, the finish on this guitar was a 10. The frets are huge, the neck is sleek, the body heavy plays like a acoustic also ... Think stratocaster with less twang, more depth, but on two and four you get distict tele sounds. best single coil ever, the best, can't compare to any, it leads the pack .... peace

Very well made guitar

By PJGuitarMan

I like the strat-style guitar with 22 frets. The Dual Fulcrum tremolo is much better than the orignal strat tremolo I used to play and the PTB system offers plenty of tone.

Good guitar, but....

By tnsewalkin

from Barrington Hills, IL

I got this guitar two years ago. It's a nice guitar, but some of the equipment on it is cheap. The pots plain sucked. Had them replaced, and it's a different guitar. Occasional fret buzz, but that's likely as much me as the guitar. For the price, you can't get a better guitar, but definitely swap out the pots.

Great Guitar

By ACuiffo402

from Nebraska

I bought this guitar at the local music shop in Omaha. I have a beautiful blue sunburst finish with a cool extra pickup thing. I still don't know exactly what the extra switch is for, but it changes the tone very slightly on each normal pickup setting. There is some minor fret buzzing on the low E string. When I got it the screw to hold the trem bar in was not included so it would fall off.I play it through a little fender 10 watt amp and a digitech hendrix pedal, and it really does sound like a strat. I would say buy this guitar, its well worth it.
