Comments about G&L SC-2 Electric Guitar:
If you are looking for a guitar that will give you a ton of tonal possibilities without being overwhelming, this is the one. I feels like a stripped down version of my Jazzmaster, but with a punchier sound.
Very high quality hardware and pickups, Great choice of woods; alder and maple ( no crappy basswood). Just a great simple and straight forward tone machine. It would be better with a fixed bridge in my opinion, but that's just me.
I have only had it two weeks, but after a very slight set up and a little tone tweaking I took it out and used it for a set. The guitar performed excellently and I received a lot of comments on the tone and look.
There are a lot of imports w/ far inferior materials and workmanship that sell for what I paid for this little gem. Value wise, I don't think you can do better.
Comments about G&L SC-2 Electric Guitar:
I own a vintage white one with rosewood fingerboard and alder body. The guitar is light, confortable, ergonomic and easy to use: the neck is a trditional G.& L. #1 , 12' radius, very good playability.Simple controls, fantastic pick - ups, excellent dual fulcrum bridge, excellent sperzel tuning machines.Everything is working perfectly on this gutiar and all the tones are rich and full. The neck pick up sounds like the neck Strat pick up but is a little bit fatter, the bridge pick up reminds me a P 90 and is very powerfull: togheter they work very well, expecially for clean rythm work. The controls are very effective and they enable the player to find a lot of nice tones.I have several guitars and in particular other six G.& L., three Asats ( Classic, Classic Custom and a Special, an S 500, a Legacy Special and a Comanche ) and I think that the MF Soapbar is the best neck pick up produced by G.& L.: the best bridge pick up I believed that was the traditional Asat Classic pick up, but I must say that the SC 2 overwound MF Soapbar is amazing! Finally I can say that the SC 2 is an excellent guitar, with a little body that can remind the Legacy-Strat body, the Legacy neck and hardware, the Asat Special electronic and pick-ups, with a very special bridge pick up: it is like if we have the addiction of the best features of the G.& L. production, all togheter in a single model!
Comments about G&L SC-2 Electric Guitar:
I've had my G&L SC-2 for a couple months now, and it may have already become my all-time favorite solid-body electric (out of several dozen over the years). It has simply amazing tone. Heavy, dense woods in the body and neck give lots of natural resonance - it's not Les Paul heavy, but it's substantial for a Mustang-sized axe. The resonance plus fantastic pickups combine for a sharp, articulate tonal palette. The pickups are like a high-output cross between a P90 and a Strat pickup: shearing and chimey, but with enough growl lower down to give them authority. The guitar is lots more versatile than I expected from such simple controls, mostly because small adjustments of the volume and tone knobs produce readily-heard changes in tone. The neck pickup is voiced very much like a classic Strat neck p'up, and the bridge is like a very hot, slightly treble-shifted P90. Playing it through either a "Rivera era" Fender Concert or an Egnater Tweaker. The guitar played well and intonated correctly out of the box. I set it up slightly lower (personal preference), but only by a very small amount. Frets were just fine out of the box, too. The neck is pretty chunky...again, that's my personal preference, but if you're looking for a Parker or Ibanez Wizard sort of feel, this is not your guitar. Workmanship is astonishingly good for this price point, and all of the hardware, components, etc. are quality choices. Under eleven hundred for this kind of US-made quality is a steal.tl;dr version: a well-built tone monster...buy one!
