G&L

Familiar body, bolt-on maple neck and Leo Fender-designed single-coil pickups.

The G&L ASAT Classic is Leo’s final word on the traditional single-cutaway bolt-on axe. Framed in a classic boxed-steel bridge, the single-coil Magnetic Field Design bridge pickup created by Leo Fender delivers crisp attack with complex harmonics while individual brass saddles offer modern levels of intonation refinement. Flip to the single-coil MFD neck pickup and you’ll discover a delectably rich tonal palette, from round clean jazz tones to thick, gritty blues. Put them together and you’ll find a whole other level of heaven.

Comments about G&L Tribute ASAT Classic Electric Guitar:

The Tribute ASAT came ready to play out of the box. The neck and the string height, intonation, fit and finish were all perfect. The other guitar player in my band is a professional luthier who looked over my ASAT Tribute and said he could find absolutely nothing wrong with it. All I did was add some strap locks and immediately started gigging with it. After 2 weeks of playing shows I did slightly tighten up the cord input jack nut, but that was a very, very minor thing and it has not been a problem since. I've also had to do the same thing on my Les Paul Custom every few years or so, and I consider that just a basic maintenance thing that all guitarists should check on any guitar from time to time.
Other than ease of playability, the thing that makes this guitar really shine is the tone. It does not have a traditional Fender tele sound. The G&L pickups have a unique tone that is a little warmer and much fuller sounding than a Fender tele. The solid color finished bodies of the ASAT Tributes are made of basswood, and the translucent finished bodies are made of ash. Mine is a solid color finish and the basswood adds a nice tone to the overall sound spectrum of this guitar. From my research, I understand that all the electronics in the ASAT tribute are the same exact ones G&L puts in the American made versions of the same guitars.
In short, this guitar is a definite step up from the standard Fender MIM Telecaster, has a unique tone, and has a fit and finish usually only found on American made guitars. My other electric guitars are a Carvin Custom Shop Strat and a Les Paul Custom. This guitar plays as well as either one of those.
A lot of my friends are afraid to buy guitars without playing them first. I couldn't find any stocking dealers for G&L within 100 miles of my home to try one. I had no problems ordering this G&L guitar from Musicians Friend because they have an easy return policy on guitars. I returned an acoustic guitar to them years ago after UPS put an extra sound hole in the front of it with a forklift, and Musicians Friend shipped me a replacement and I had it within 2 days. I knew that they take this G&L back if I didn't like it. Don't let that fear keep you from trying out this guitar. It's an awesome guitar that won't disappoint you.

Comments about G&L Tribute ASAT Classic Electric Guitar:

Got the tobacco finish and it looks great. Great hardware, I really like both pickups - good 'honk' from the bridge, and very warm tones from the neck. I love the middle position - nasal clean - also.

This guitar is all about "clean" sounds, it just doesn't do distortion well. Clean rock, country, surf, R&B, Chicago blues, Stones - sounds top notch, especially for the finger-picker. I had to set it up to a bit - mild neck adjustment, lowered the strings and intonated. Very easy set up.

The hardward is very nice. The tuners are solid, and I love the "ash tray" string-through bridge. It is hard to see from the pic, but it is the same "side walled" bridge used on the US ASAT. And again, I really like the pickups for clean playing - including chick'n pick'n.

My only complaint is the metal plate has a scratch below the tone knob. However, everything else looks so good - the swamp ash with the tobacco finish looks outstanding - I simply was not willing to send it back. Also, the pick guard is sort of boring so I may replace it some day. I might also upgrade the P/U switch because I see the US version uses a better switch.

I bought it when they were running a special on purchases four ninetynine or more, so I feel I got a very good deal on a very nice guitar.

I give it four stars because of the scratch and the slightly lower-grade pick guard and PU switch. Also, it doesn't come with a case or even a gig bag.

Bottom line: If you want a nice Tele but don't want to spend a grand+, go for it.

This guitar is incredible. I preferred it over the $1500 ones. You can just take it out of the box and play it. The single coils are surprisingly quiet too. Just an incredible instrument

Comments about G&L Tribute ASAT Classic Electric Guitar:

The G&L tribute series, and especially my ASAT classic, are fine guitars. The G&L electronics and hardware are very very nice, and the sound from the Leo Fender MFD single coils is just amazing. It's really hard to believe how much value you get for your money from G&L. The fit and finish of the wood (made in Malaysia from rock maple and swamp ash) is just fine. The tone and sustain I get from this guitar is amazing. It's worth getting a professional setup if you don't know how to do it yourself. The brass bridge saddles (individual) make it a breeze.

Anyway, even after a month and time to let the honeymoon die down; I still can't believe how nice this guitar is- period- but even more so for what I paid.

Comments about G&L Tribute ASAT Classic Electric Guitar:

If you are looking for the best guitar in the price range, look no further. The G & L ASAT Classic Tribute is absolutely the best quality and value at this price range. I am blown away by how solid this guitar is. It played great out of the box and sounds amazing. The butterscotch finish is gorgeous and the tinted neck plays like a dream. If you are trying to get a Tele style guitar, I would pick this over a Mexican made Fender any day.
