G&L

Gorgeous tonewoods, bolt-on maple neck and G&L pickups.

One look and you know this ASAT is killer. It’s fired up with twin chrome-covered alnico humbuckers – designed by G&L’s Paul Gagon – mounted in a bound, flame maple-topped mahogany body (swamp ash on Butterscotch Blonde). This new axe takes the iconic ASAT further into heavy territory while retaining the feel and playability that have made the ASAT a perennial favorite among players.

The ASAT Deluxe Carved Top sports an easy-playing 1-5/8” nut-width neck, a classic C-shaped back and 12” fingerboard radius to make deep bends a breeze. Holding it down on the other end is a G&L Saddle Lock bridge designed by Leo Fender for comfort and singing sustain. The Gagon-designed pickups are split via a push/pull tone pot to offer everything from jangly single-coil tones to gritty blues to scorching leads.

Case sold separately.

Can't say enough good things about this guitar! It feels and plays like a guitar 3x/4x the price. For someone looking for a quality instrument on a limited budget (like me) you've found it here. My only call out is the humbucker in the bridge position does not "put out" as much as my Seymour Duncan Super Distortion on my Washburn. That's not what I purchased it for though; and I'm sure there is a pedal out there that will compensate.

I was a bit ticked that the input jack and tone knob were loose and I had to crack it open to tighten. Minor complaint though. Also, no manual?

I bought this as the stupid deal of the day. I liked the look of the guitar. It is nice and light too. It is made in Indonesia. Had I known that I wouldn't have bought it. The set up was good. The frets were a little sharp on the ends. The sound is what I couldn't get over. Everything I did it just wouldn't get out of the "muddy" tone. I tried several rehearsals and comparing it to my other guitars. I ended up sending it back. What do you expect. The STOD was for a really good price. Well, it played like a guitar with a really good (low) price. I think for some it would be great but it would end up never seeing stage time with me.
I weighed the option of putting better P'ups in it but would probably end up paying more than I paid for it putting nice ones in. Think i'll stick to buying a guitar I can put my hands on first before paying for it.

Comments about G&L Tribute ASAT Deluxe Carved Top Electric Guitar:

Might be surprised at my comments and rating seeming contrary. But with the G&L name and this particular guitar at such a low price I thought I would take a chance. At the first practice I took it to, I could not get a decent tone in any pickup position. I was so disappointed I was seriously considering sending it back right away. But I decided to take it to a guitar technician that I trust.

He modified the bridge pickup which was so low from the strings he was surprised it was picking up anything. He modified a Gibson pickup bezel and placed it underneath the factory bezel to raise it up another quarter inch. The bridge pickup is now less than 1/8 inch from the strings and closer when you press the strings which in the bridge is fine. He also lowered the neck pickup which reduced some of the heavy lows and low mids.

The pickup switching is now balanced in output across all three positions and the pull single coil is also much closer in volume as well and balanced. Now this thing sounds fantastic. If it had come from the factory or after the G&L setup before shipping this way I would have been pleased from day 1. Glad I had a great guitar tech to prevent me from shipping back a good guitar at a great price.

Hope to enjoy it now for years to come.

Also for anyone who has suffered from the rosewood sharp edge problem which this guitar does not have right now, my tech said this wood needs oil. It's not the frets sticking out, it is the wood shrinking. He suggests Old English oil about every third string change.

Hope this may help others who may have a gem and not know it regardless of where it is made.

56 years old and still pickin and grinnin.

Comments about G&L Tribute ASAT Deluxe Carved Top Electric Guitar:

Love this thing! Pulled it out of the box and started playing it for an hour. I am blown away by how good this sounds! I ran it through a G-Dec as well as my DT-25/Orange cab and it can go from fat to spanky. Its been on stage twice in front of 150-200 people and inspires me to play more. You might think that sounds silly but hey! These pickups rock. The best part is I bought it on Stupid deal of the day!!!!!! What!

I have a custom shop Strat as well and have been playing for 30 plus years and several guitars. Honestly for my ears, taste and touch this is a winner. Sounds as good as guitars costing 5x what I paid.

Needed a slight adjustment. Guitars that travel times zones will need a little tune-up. guitars in the shop get TLC before the customer see's it so that should be expected.

Comments about G&L Tribute ASAT Deluxe Carved Top Electric Guitar:

all of the volume output is in the final 1\3 turn of the knob, 500k pots might improve the sound over these 250K pots ,however I had to back the volume down a touch from 10 because of the whining, which can be disturbing in a recording session. The guitar played right out of the box,but you will want to lower the action a bit, played in tune and the push pull split pickup feature is a very nice addition, was difficult to return ,the cherry sunburst is beautiful. I played it thru a Fender super reverb amp, so I do not know what it will sound like thru a smaller amp.The neck width and length has a great feel to it, it has the same gloss finish on the back. I considered changing the pots, but, some routing is required for the height of american 500K pots...just wish it had a little more umph!

Great guitar, good detail on the fret edges, good tone and a great look, it's kinda of a cross between a Tele and a Les Paul, no disapointments yet !!

      Get one.
      Now, before they're gone.
      The pup's are incredible.
The set up was darn near spot on and was in tune out of the box!!
Needs a little fret polishing here & there but that's about it.
OK, so you're probably not going to get Spanky Tele tones out of this guitar, but if you prefer longer scale bolt on necks and have been longing to be able to sing like a Less Paul without the weight, you'll be very satisfied with this guitar.

Despite having only two knobs, there's a lot going on with the wire tap/tone control, dime the volume and tone in hummer mode and it can get pretty hairy, rollback the volume & it clean's up nicely. Play with the volume and tone again and you'll find great, big, fat, round, jazzer tones in the middle and neck positions, pop the single coil and keep the volume below 90% and it sparkles & chimes.
I'm easily getting Eric Johnson tones out of this thing with a twist of the tone control!
      Frankly I'm kind of amazed.
This thing is a smoking all arounder, you could cover just about everything with it except ironically enough, genuine a Tele tone. Easy to play, bends nicely, great natural sustain.

      Happy me.

No I don't work for MF or G&L!

      Get one!

This guitar did not disappoint me at all. It feels great and sounds wonderful, it's definitely a keeper and the price was easy on the wallet. The only thing this guitar needs is a setup the action was a little high when it arrived but I'm not going to complain about that if that's its only issue.

Comments about G&L Tribute ASAT Deluxe Carved Top Electric Guitar:

After 6 months of playing my ASAT Deluxe, it has become my go-to guitar. I have seen a couple of reviewers complain about muddy pickups, but mine is anything but muddy. With the coil splitting, the volume drops (as would any single coil pickup) but the range of tones is really outstanding. Although I have replaced pickups on two of my other guitars, the ASAT pickups are definitely not going anywhere as I couldn't be happier with them.

The only down side was that the factory setup was not optimal but I usually expect to need a setup on a new guitar. It also had one high fret but Musician's Friend took care of the fret for me and now I am a happy camper.

Honestly, as Senior Pastor for the Free Methodist Church in Richland Center, Wisconsin, I am always looking for great deals for our churches Praise Team and my musically inclined friends. This instrument fits that bill precisely. Great G & L quality, great sound and action......a true "Players" guitar and a wonderful addition for anyone who needs a quality guitar at an affordable price. We bought ours as the "Stupid Deal of the Day" special and are grateful for the amazing price. A great guitar and very versatile. Can't miss on this one! It took me 10 minutes to set up properly and virtually anyone could do what was needed to adjust this one. Very pleased.
