OVERVIEW

Gorgeous tonewoods, bolt-on maple neck and G&L pickups.

One look and you know this ASAT is killer. It’s fired up with twin chrome-covered alnico humbuckers – designed by G&L’s Paul Gagon – mounted in a bound, flame maple-topped mahogany body (swamp ash on Butterscotch Blonde). This new axe takes the iconic ASAT further into heavy territory while retaining the feel and playability that have made the ASAT a perennial favorite among players.

The ASAT Deluxe Carved Top sports an easy-playing 1-5/8” nut-width neck, a classic C-shaped back and 12” fingerboard radius to make deep bends a breeze. Holding it down on the other end is a G&L Saddle Lock bridge designed by Leo Fender for comfort and singing sustain. The Gagon-designed pickups are split via a push/pull tone pot to offer everything from jangly single-coil tones to gritty blues to scorching leads.

Case sold separately.

Can't say enough good things about this guitar! It feels and plays like a guitar 3x/4x the price. For someone looking for a quality instrument on a limited budget (like me) you've found it here. My only call out is the humbucker in the bridge position does not "put out" as much as my Seymour Duncan Super Distortion on my Washburn. That's not what I purchased it for though; and I'm sure there is a pedal out there that will compensate.

I was a bit ticked that the input jack and tone knob were loose and I had to crack it open to tighten. Minor complaint though. Also, no manual?

This is my first experience with G&L and sadly it's not good. The guitar came to me defective - the high E string barely hangs over the end of the frets, so when playing, the string falls off the edge of the fretboard. In looking at possibly re-aligning the neck, I found the neck pocket tight with no room to make an adjustment. Bottom line, had to send it back. This is no reflection on MFI, they're great. I'm debating on whether or not to re-order since I'm always willing to give folks a second chance. Was so in hopes this was going to be a positive experience...if I do decide to re-order, I'll post an update. BTW, I resist giving products unfavorable reviews, but in this situation, I feel obligated to inform those considering this guitar.

Only two relatively minor issues: The sound of the pickups is nothing to write home about, particularly in coil split mode, and the guitar is a bit neck-heavy, causing neck drop.

Comments about G&L Tribute ASAT Deluxe Carved Top Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar as a 'change of pace' to my Fender Strats and Jazzmaster. I've always wanted a Tele, but I was intrigued by the fact that this is basically a Tele with a carved top, mahogany body, and humbucker pups. I didn't want to spend a lot of money, since this would only be used occasionally. Surprise, surprise: I haven't been able to put it down since I bought it a few weeks ago! I bought a used, #1 condition, gloss black one from MF, and the guitar arrived in perfect condition. Because it's used, I went over it with a 'fine toothed comb', and found no problems with it at all. It's made in Indonesia, but it's fit and finish rivals the fit and finish of my US made Fenders. And I love the way it plays. The 12" radius fret board ( my Fenders are 9 1/2" ) is great for slide work. I like the humbuckers, and probably won't use the coil tap feature. All in all, I just wanted an inexpensive, 'change of pace' axe, but I'm very pleased and surprised by how good this guitar is. Especially for the price! I'll definitely use it at gigs. Great guitar, and a great value!

Comments about G&L Tribute ASAT Deluxe Carved Top Electric Guitar:

I had been wanting to try a G&L Tele for quite a while, when I spotted this one on MF's Stupid Deal of the Day. I couldn't pass it up. When I got it, I looked it over from stem to stern, and couldn't find a single flaw. The finish was perfect. The neck and frets were perfect ... no sharp fret ends that can be found on many inexpensive guitars. I am somewhat partial to humbuckers, but sometimes like single coils, so the G&L with humbuckers and a coil splitter was an ideal compromise.I will say that when switching to coil splitting mode, there is a marked decrease in volume. That doesn't concern me. It came with perfect intonation, I just had to drop the strings down a bit to suit my playing style. It won't hold up to my PRS, but for the price I paid It sounds great. It, in my opinion, doesn't have the "quack" of a Tele, to me, it sounds more like a cross between a Tele and a PRS.
I have bought a Taylor, a PRS, and several other expensive guitars online, but I have to say that this G&L was packed better than any of them. I will buy another G&L as soon as I see one that calls out to me.

This guitar arrived needing no set-up. I played it on a gig last weekend. The humbuckers cut through the mix when I needed and the sustain was as nice as could be asked for. I can play this guitar without amplification at home and still hear the great sustain and tone. Need to add that it is a beautiful instrument. As always, Musicians Friend delivered a quality product exactly when they promised.

Comments about G&L Tribute ASAT Deluxe Carved Top Electric Guitar:

I had my eye on this model for a while. Got it from MF at a great price and MF shipping to Australia is now extremely competitive.

I really like the pickups on this guitar. They are bright in a good way. Also the tone and volume pots on this guitar work very well. I doubt I'll use the coil tap.

Overall the guitar is finished very well however there were some high frets. This was due to some of them not being seated absolutely right. They needed pressing with a bit of superglue. Some other needed to be levelled. This is beyond my skill level so I paid for professional job. Now set up with 11s. That said, absolutely worth it as it is a great quality instrument.

Having tried the Les Paul type guitar I realise I like the longer Fender scale length. Great for strumming and harder playing.

Best guitar deal out there right now hands down! At the price the gloss black one's going for there is no reason not to grab one of these babys! Does all the Gibbo L/P & SG tones all day, & just pull the coil split for those classic spanky tele tones. The QC on these far east models are fantastic! Better than any Mexi Fendy IMO! Not to mention one of the most solid hard tail bridge designs I have ever played on period. Honestly can't put it down!!! Epic Win!!

I picked this up on a stupid deal of the day for 399.00. I bought it for a flip, however, when I received it, I decided to keep it. I love the finish and the feel of the guitar. Normally, you would be paying more for all the features this guitar has. I love the carved top and how the back of guitar is carved for comfort. I played the USA version and really can't tell a difference, 1700.00 verses 400.00 It was a no brainer. I was really surprised how good a value this was. The action was low enough for me when the guitar arrived, set up was very good. I'm unable to find any flaws.

Comments about G&L Tribute ASAT Deluxe Carved Top Electric Guitar:

This is an update to my previous review "Not a good beginning". I decided to exchange the first defective guitar for another and glad I did. The new one is "money". Neck setup is perfect with smooth fret ends and the strings align correctly from the nut to the bridge. Finish is also perfect with no issues. Sound is better than you might expect from an instrument in this price range and the "feel" of the electronics (haven't opened the back yet) is solid. Bottom line, this is a great guitar for the money. The initial issue I had with the first guitar would give the perception of inconsistent quality control on G&L's part. MFI on the otherhand is world class. They have certainly stepped up their customer service and that sets them apart from other web retailers out there. And, as someone mentioned in a previous review, Tyler is "the man". I've dealt with Tyler several times recently and I have always been pleased with his providing consistent outstanding customer service. Kudo's to Tyler.
