G&L

Gorgeous tonewoods, bolt-on maple neck and G&L pickups.

One look and you know this ASAT is killer. It’s fired up with twin chrome-covered alnico humbuckers – designed by G&L’s Paul Gagon – mounted in a bound, flame maple-topped mahogany body (swamp ash on Butterscotch Blonde). This new axe takes the iconic ASAT further into heavy territory while retaining the feel and playability that have made the ASAT a perennial favorite among players.

The ASAT Deluxe Carved Top sports an easy-playing 1-5/8” nut-width neck, a classic C-shaped back and 12” fingerboard radius to make deep bends a breeze. Holding it down on the other end is a G&L Saddle Lock bridge designed by Leo Fender for comfort and singing sustain. The Gagon-designed pickups are split via a push/pull tone pot to offer everything from jangly single-coil tones to gritty blues to scorching leads.

Case sold separately.

Can't say enough good things about this guitar! It feels and plays like a guitar 3x/4x the price. For someone looking for a quality instrument on a limited budget (like me) you've found it here. My only call out is the humbucker in the bridge position does not "put out" as much as my Seymour Duncan Super Distortion on my Washburn. That's not what I purchased it for though; and I'm sure there is a pedal out there that will compensate.

I was a bit ticked that the input jack and tone knob were loose and I had to crack it open to tighten. Minor complaint though. Also, no manual?

I bought this as the stupid deal of the day. I liked the look of the guitar. It is nice and light too. It is made in Indonesia. Had I known that I wouldn't have bought it. The set up was good. The frets were a little sharp on the ends. The sound is what I couldn't get over. Everything I did it just wouldn't get out of the "muddy" tone. I tried several rehearsals and comparing it to my other guitars. I ended up sending it back. What do you expect. The STOD was for a really good price. Well, it played like a guitar with a really good (low) price. I think for some it would be great but it would end up never seeing stage time with me.
I weighed the option of putting better P'ups in it but would probably end up paying more than I paid for it putting nice ones in. Think i'll stick to buying a guitar I can put my hands on first before paying for it.

Great guitar, good detail on the fret edges, good tone and a great look, it's kinda of a cross between a Tele and a Les Paul, no disapointments yet !!

      Get one.
      Now, before they're gone.
      The pup's are incredible.
The set up was darn near spot on and was in tune out of the box!!
Needs a little fret polishing here & there but that's about it.
OK, so you're probably not going to get Spanky Tele tones out of this guitar, but if you prefer longer scale bolt on necks and have been longing to be able to sing like a Less Paul without the weight, you'll be very satisfied with this guitar.

Despite having only two knobs, there's a lot going on with the wire tap/tone control, dime the volume and tone in hummer mode and it can get pretty hairy, rollback the volume & it clean's up nicely. Play with the volume and tone again and you'll find great, big, fat, round, jazzer tones in the middle and neck positions, pop the single coil and keep the volume below 90% and it sparkles & chimes.
I'm easily getting Eric Johnson tones out of this thing with a twist of the tone control!
      Frankly I'm kind of amazed.
This thing is a smoking all arounder, you could cover just about everything with it except ironically enough, genuine a Tele tone. Easy to play, bends nicely, great natural sustain.

      Happy me.

No I don't work for MF or G&L!

This guitar did not disappoint me at all. It feels great and sounds wonderful, it's definitely a keeper and the price was easy on the wallet. The only thing this guitar needs is a setup the action was a little high when it arrived but I'm not going to complain about that if that's its only issue.

Comments about G&L Tribute ASAT Deluxe Carved Top Electric Guitar:

After 6 months of playing my ASAT Deluxe, it has become my go-to guitar. I have seen a couple of reviewers complain about muddy pickups, but mine is anything but muddy. With the coil splitting, the volume drops (as would any single coil pickup) but the range of tones is really outstanding. Although I have replaced pickups on two of my other guitars, the ASAT pickups are definitely not going anywhere as I couldn't be happier with them.

The only down side was that the factory setup was not optimal but I usually expect to need a setup on a new guitar. It also had one high fret but Musician's Friend took care of the fret for me and now I am a happy camper.

Comments about G&L Tribute ASAT Deluxe Carved Top Electric Guitar:

Honestly, as Senior Pastor for the Free Methodist Church in Richland Center, Wisconsin, I am always looking for great deals for our churches Praise Team and my musically inclined friends. This instrument fits that bill precisely. Great G & L quality, great sound and action......a true "Players" guitar and a wonderful addition for anyone who needs a quality guitar at an affordable price. We bought ours as the "Stupid Deal of the Day" special and are grateful for the amazing price. A great guitar and very versatile. Can't miss on this one! It took me 10 minutes to set up properly and virtually anyone could do what was needed to adjust this one. Very pleased.

I still plan to transplant a matched set of DiMarzio D Activator pups, but this is my preference and is no refection on this quality built guitar.

Comments about G&L Tribute ASAT Deluxe Carved Top Electric Guitar:

This is a great guitar for a great price! I did spend some time setting it up though - as with most guitars - they need it. It had high action and heavier strings than I prefer and some fret buzz. I replaced strings with Ernie Ball Super Slinky (.009-.042) first. Adjusted truss rod and put .020" shims under neck. Intonation was very close. Fit and finish is very good. Neck feels great! Fret buzz - gone! Electronics could be better but still not bad. I was not sure about this purchase through "Stupid Deal Of The Day" but I am pleasantly surprised!

I was thinking about buying a MIM Strat or Tele but after trying them out in my local music stores and almost cutting my hand on the TERRIBLE fret work, I decided to take a chance on an unseen G&L. Glad I did!

I wonder why a local store would have a bad guitar on display. My local guys said "Well, they do not spend the time on finishing the frets like that $1800 American Tele". Then he claimed it was because of the dry air in the shop. Really?! Don't put junk on display! I would not buy a guitar from them anyway.

I'm very happy with the G&L Tribute ASAT!! I did exchange the cherry sunburst model for blonde model--just a personal preference. I will say that the exchange was very simple from Musician's Friend. The Tribute sounds great, looks great and was set up very well. It was also packaged very well.

I recommend to anyone looking for a great value on a G&L guitar.

got it on SDOTD for what it may be worth.Mine is gloss black & impossible to keep clean''must be the type of finish,I have 4 other black guitars without this unique problem,,but that's a minor beef I guess. This guitar loses at least half volume when you pull the coil switch & the pups are up there with the worst total mud sound I ever heard..I really don't know what to compare it to...The good'''I really like the dished out back of the body..Bottom line''if your looking for a Tele replacement'''this is not even close''
