OVERVIEW

Ready to cover today's sophisticated textures and tones.

The Fallout shares the original Leo Fender-designed SC-2 body shape, comfortable, sustain-rich G&L Saddle Lock bridge and easy-playing medium C-shape neck with a 12" radius and medium-jumbo frets. It comes with a great pairing of Paul Gagon-designed Alnico pickups: a gorgous P-90 and meaty humbucker splittable via a push/pull tone pot. The look transcends the SC-2's simplicity with a sweeping pickguard that complements the body shape perfectly. Balancing out the aesthetics is a sleeker interpretation of the ˜80s-era G&L headstock shape designed exclusively for the Fallout. Case sold separately.

FEATURES
  • Bolt-on construction
  • 25-1/2" scale
  • Paul Gagon-designed Alnico pickups, G&L AP4285B P-90 in neck position and G&L AW4470B humbucker in bridge positon
  • Mahogany body
  • Hard rock maple neck with rosewood fingerboard
  • 12" radius
  • 1-5/8" nut width
  • Medium C neck profile
  • 22 medium jumbo frets, nickel
  • 18:1 ratio, sealed-back tuners
  • G&L Saddle Lock bridge

Overall, I was very pleased with the service and even more pleased with the quality of this guitar. I was initially attracted to the Fallout due its unique look. It is kind of a mix between a Fender Mustang and a Telecaster. And I also wanted a P-90 on the neck.

Everything about the guitar, in my opinion, is great except for the electronics. The humbucker on the bridge doesn't sound THAT great and tends to get fussy, i.e. crack and buzz sometimes, especially with certain effects, like chorus. The P-90 near the neck, however, sounds awesome and I have been using it a lot. It's an original design by one of the founders of G&L.

Another gripe is the tone/volume knobs and 3-way switch. They are cheaply made but can easily be replaced with better American parts. Also, the split coil option isn't all that great. Who really needs to turn their humbucker into a single coil? Maybe this function comes in handy with more expensive guitars, but in this case, I could do without it. Just doesn't sound that good for lack of a better way to put it.

That said, I think these are MINOR gripes. For the price, this is an EXCELLENT guitar that I think is not getting enough attention right now. G&L rocks. I originally intended on purchasing the more expensive model but due to small pocket book decided to go with this. NOT DISAPPOINTED AT ALL. ALL EXPERIENCED PLAYERS SHOULD OWN ONE OF THESE, TRIBUTE OR ORIGINAL. THANK YOU G&L AND MF. MADE MY CHRISTMAS!

Drawn to it by its sheer unconventionalism, the Fallout Tribute is a very decent, different guitar. However, I had very bad luck with the thing, so I'm obviously a little biased. Straight up- those tone controls feel incredibly cheap and loose. As well, I found construction to suffer more than a Squire. The strap button on the bottom looks like someone whacked it with a hammer, so I unscrewed it to find that it was merely drilled...very crooked. Not to mention a few finish issues! This guitar, sadly, wasn't made with the highest amount of TLC. Pickups-wise, this guitar is pretty solid. The middle position has to be my favorite. While the spilttable humbucker mattered little to me, The humbucker itself is A-okay. This is my first time experiencing a P-90, and yes, it is quite powerful. When playing, however, realize you'll be very restricted getting the highest frets- the part of the guitar where the bolt-on is located is chunkier than Superchunk. All in all, I ended up returning it due to the manufacturer defects (it even had a tragically bent allen wrench...dear lord, what was going on?). While it at least looks cool, I didn't like it.

Comments about G&L Tribute Fallout Electric Guitar:

When I first open this guitar I was very happy with the looks. The fit and finest was just about perfect. The rosewood finger board was not cheap looking like lower price guitars. The frets were smooth and the ends did not have any sharp edges. I first notice that one of the control knobs seem lose so, I tighten it up. I found that it was not the knob that was lose but the internals that were lose inside the coil splitter. The action was very high so I lower it to just over 4/64 at the 12th fret. The strings after the 14th fret were buzzing so I try adding relief to the neck. I found that the trust rod could not be adjusted because there was no slot cut for the trust rod wrench to fit into. With no trust rod adjustment and very cheap electronics I was very disappointed and return this guitar to Musician's Friend. :-(

I primarily use this for home recording or through a VOX VT100X. The range of sounds you can get with these pickups is great. My first G&L guitar, but it won't be my last.

The only downside was some fret buzz at first, but I've adjusted the action and now it is fine.

Comments about G&L Tribute Fallout Electric Guitar:

First off, This is a great guitar, and would recommend it. I just had some bad luck with mine and had to return it.

When It arrived I thought I got a seafoam green one, but I don't believe they make a seafoam green tribute. It's such a light blue, and under a yellowish light, it will look greenish. Still looked nice, and didn't bother me.

Next, it came with the black cap of the pickup switch, cracked in half and broken off in the box upon arrival.. MF then sent me a new cap, but that one didn't fit the guitar.

Then, I couldn't get a clean sound out of it. The pickups were extremely noisy. In order to not get loud humming and buzzing, I had to turn the tone practically all the way down, and it did not sound good (this was on the humbucker surprisingly, the p90 was nice!). This happened on both my audio interface to my computer and my amp. I've never had any problem with my other guitar (an SG with two humbuckers). So i'm assuming there was an issue. I don't believe it was a grounding issue, I'm not really sure what could have been happening. I also tried it in a few different environments, in case it was just interference and the pickup was catching noise from something, 60 cycle hum? who knows?

I wouldn't fault G&l, It is a beautiful guitar, and feels great. Especially for the price, which is why it hurt to send it back. I really wanted to keep it. But I think I just got a bad one. I may try to get another one down the line because it did look fantastic and felt great. Hopefully, I will have better luck then.

Aside from that, Musicians Friend handled the situation (and a irritated me) professionally and friendly, every step of the way. This was my first time buying from MF, and will be buying again from them. I decided to exchange the guitar for a different one.

Great guitar! Low priced but doesn't feel cheap. Great pickups - the P90 stays clear even with some grit and the humbucker sounds beefy. If you're on the fence about this guitar, just go for it.

Comments about G&L Tribute Fallout Electric Guitar:

I use the guitar for everyday practicing, jamming with the band and playing in small venues. The guitar sounds great. The P90s in the neck really pop well and the the coil splitter really gives the guitar a diverse array of tones for all pickup options. The neck feels good, it is feels comfortable and it is very playable and easy to move around on. As far as cons go, the action was super low, which feels good, but the fret buzz is very noticeable. Also, when mine came in, I had to unscrew where the jack goes in, because the nut kept falling off and the jack fell into the guitar. The guitar itself is very nice, but the setup wasn't very solid, which can be expected from a guitar made in Indonesia. If you are looking for the best (inexpensive) guitar for your money, don't take another step. This guitar was what I went with instead of forking over an extra 300 for a Fender, which I don't regret at all, but make sure you have your tools with you to tweak the setup.

Comments about G&L Tribute Fallout Electric Guitar:

This guitar is awesome. I have about 40 guitars and played for over 50 years. This guitar came with one of those amazing set ups that is just right with low action like I TRY to get on my other guitars! It's light weight, beautiful ash woodgrain showing, and the pickups cover all sounds, you have the bright P90 for the neck and the splitable humbucker for bridge that is actually good when split--sounds more clear and bright just like a single coil. I don't use split option on any of my others but this one works! The finish is perfect on this body even around the neck, and the neck pocket is tight around the neck--when did you see that on a Fender? Frets are perfect. Action is low and fast. Tuners work great. The bridge is rock solid, makes guitar easy to play, no metal unfinished edges jabbing into your palm. Step up to the other side, buy one today!

Can't put this guitar down. Great tone and sound clean or with an edge. Set up from factory was spot on which is rare. Even unplugged this guitar sound good and smaller body size fits in lap nice when sitting in a chair practicing. Baby blue color is real cool. Thin and fast neck feels alot like my stat.
